Berrio Park:
Berrío Park is an urban plaza located in the geographical heart of Medellín, Colombia. It is popular as a meeting place for local residents and as the main reference of the city for visitors, as there are several attractions nearby, there resides the Rafael Uribe Uribe Palace of Culture, a beautiful, strange baroque castle, a checkerboard of black and white bricks, where, people say, a ghost hides, casting strange shadows on the elegant walls. Nearby is also the Centro Coltejer (Carrera 52 # 47-72), the Empire State Building of Medellin, a symbol of its economic success, the building, with its 175 meters, is the tallest in the entire city. Its needle shape is the symbol of the textile industry, a great success for Paisa. The Tower was built, in 1968, on the old Junín Theater, named after the pedestrian street (49) that runs parallel to Oriental Avenue. Throughout Junín there are many cafes, little bars and street vendors, in the agitation and crowd that disrupts, at all hours, the entire Candelaria neighborhood. The park is named after Pedro Justo Berrío, who was a politician and governor of Antioquia.

We were in Medellin Colombia again, this time we stayed in the center of Medellin, in the Hotel Girardot, located in the Parque del Periodista:

Whenever we stay in Medellin, our obligatory visit is to the iconic place in this city that is the Lleras Park in El Poblado, we also went there, we will upload the video, however we found that the festive atmosphere was not in Lleras Park, we found that the city center was very busy, that's why we've taken some shots there, in places like La candelaria, Parque Berrio, Plaza Botero, and the busy streets full of buyers and sellers.
We are amazed at the good prices of fruits, especially in the afternoon and evening when sellers begin to get restless with the result of sales and start to offer good prices on their products.
It is a Colombian custom haggling, if they ask you for a price for something that is offered on the street, you can offer 80% or 70% of what they ask for and you usually get a good price.
The people of Medellin and the entire coffee region (Antioquia, Risaralda, Armenia, Manizales) are known for their kindness to strangers, we notice that difference when we have visited other departments such as Boyacá or Cundinamarca, whose people are a little cooler and more distant.

El barrio se volvió popular desde hace varios meses. Todos hablan de Provenza, esa calle, aleph del mundo donde hay restaurantes de todo tipo —comida japonesa, vietnamita, italiana, tailandesa, criolla—, y esos visitantes la conocen mejor que cualquier paisa nacido y criado en el barrio Belén.
El lugar, escribió la revista Generación hace unos meses, adquirió su importancia primero que la canción de Caron G, pero ahora, cuando millones y millones han visto el video de Provenza en Youtube, y es una de las canciones del verano español, el lugar adquiere los atributos de un fetiche por visitar.
La página web que realizó el listado describe a Provenza como una vía “bordeada por el frondoso follaje típico de Medellín y está a un paso del bullicioso Parque Poblado y del Parque Lleras, y es lo suficientemente animada como para pasar del día a la noche”.
Provenza ocupa el lugar número 15 entre los 33 sitios.

The neighborhood known as La Candelaria is what makes up the Medellin Centro (aka downtown). While the name might officially be La Candelaria, pretty much everyone just calls it El Centro. The Medellin El Centro is still very much the heart of economic activity in this city and where you’ll see the largest concentration of people. While I don’t recommend it as the best place when people ask me where to stay in Medellin (there are better neighborhoods for day-to-day living), I still think that it is a cool place to come and explore from time to time.

Medellín is the second largest city in Colombia. It has over 3 million people and is the capital of the department of Antioquia. It's set in a valley running south to north just under one hour by plane from Bogotá. In 2013 Medellin was awarded the Innovative City of the Year by The Wall Street Journal.
Medellín is a vast city built north to south in the Aburrá valley and surrounded on either side by majestic mountain ranges. The wealthier classes live in the well-protected hillside neighborhood of El Poblado and Envigado (SouthEast) and Laureles (West and South of downtown). This is far removed from the action and commotion which are found in the city's center. There are the busy markets and a thriving street life that make up much of the city's charm. The city is home to a half-dozen universities, accounting for a vibrant cultural and nightlife scene fueled by thousands of young adults from all over the country. Medellín is also Colombia's second largest industrial center, and home to factories making everything from designer clothing to trucks. The city's northern hills are flooded with rural refugees from the ongoing civil war and their ingenuity in making a living is impressive. People sell anything from crayons to guinea pigs to garden earth in the bars in order to make a living.
As a relatively newer city, the architecture has a decidedly modernist appeal, which goes hand in hand with the progressiveness of its residents. Medellin also has the first (and only) Metro system in Colombia. And, for international travelers, Medellín is perhaps most famous for the Botero Museum, whose namesake is one of the most famous modern artist alive today. It is also known for its perfect climate, as witnessed by its nickname city of the eternal spring. Enough to make your trip worthy.
Medellín is surrounded by 8 smaller towns and together they form the Area Metropolitana with almost 3.5 million people. These other towns are: Bello, Itaguí, Sabaneta, La Estrella, Caldas, Copacabana, Girardota and Barbosa. The neighboring town of Envigado does not belong to this administrative association even though it is closer than many of the mentioned above. Medellín is a true conglomerate of towns and you will find it difficult to tell the borders between these municipalities. Located east of Medellín is the valley of Rionegro which is larger and higher in the mountains. This area holds some of the most important factories, recreational grounds and suburbs of the city, as well as the International Airport.
The weather in Medellín is quite mild, and the city lives up to its reputation as the 'City of everlasting spring'. Average daily temperatures are 22ºC (71ºF) , range from 15 to 30 degrees Celsius (60º-85ºF). Humidity is comfortable in the 50%-70% range. Due to its proximity to the equator there is little variation in the seasons. Due to its altitude (1,500 Mts. or 5,000 feet above see level) and moderate overcast skies, Medellin stays cool, with an occasional couple hours of strong sunshine.
Renting a car in Medellin, Colombia can enhance your visit, so it´s definitely worth considering. Take a day trip to Santa Fe de Antioquia, Santa Helena, El Peñol or Llano Grande in Rionegro. Driving from Medellin allows for spectacular views as you climb up and out of the city.

Con el pasar del tiempo, el parque se convirtió en un símbolo de los jóvenes, quienes se tomaron el sector para departir. Al estar ubicado entre locales comerciales, licoreras, restaurantes y bares, este lugar se volvió en zona de encuentro, muchas personas que salen de rumba se van a sentar al parque donde incluso algunos amanecen. Este sector ha tenido que lidiar a través del tiempo con problemas como el microtráfico, la inseguridad y el desaseo, por lo cual hoy en día es un punto ideal para algunos jóvenes que quieren seguir la rumba o ir a fumar marihuana.
Es quizá actualmente uno de los espacios referente de tolerancia en la ciudad, no solo en el consumo de sustancias psicoactivas sino en las subculturas que allí convergen, pues a este espacio llegan a parchar punkeros, rockeros, población LGBTI, barras bravas, hippies, neas. ETC.
En el parque del Periodista además, se ha logrado mantener por años como un lugar de tolerancia. Allí la Policía aparece, hace un par de requisas de rutina y vuelve a irse, con la obviedad de que allí ocurre todo lo opuesto a lo que el Código plantea. Sin embargo este pequeño espacio triangular sigue siendo básico cuando se piensa en lugares de socialización de la marihuana.
Este parque, que se caracteriza por su ubicación cercana a varios lugares del centro es punto de partida actual de lo que sería los sitios de socialización cannabica en Medellín.
Parque Berrio:
En el Parque de Berrío, en el corazón de la ciudad, se puede observar, en pleno medio del bosque de colosales estatuas metálicas, La Gorda de Botero, masivo cuerpo femenino sin cabeza. Al lado, el Museo de Antioquia, el cual, aparte de la mayor colección de obras de Botero del mundo, ofrece también exposiciones muy variadas, del arte precolombino a la historia de la influencia africana en Antioquia. Al otro lado del Parque de Berrío, rodeado de palmeras, está el Hotel Nutibara, construido en los años 40, y cual nombre extraño susurra la estética anticuada, glamorosa y abandonada. Cerca también, se encuentra la bella Basílica de La Candelaria.
Plaza Botero:
En medio de la “Ciudad Rosada” como se le conoce a Medellín, en Colombia, te puedes encontrar con unas gigantescas esculturas que te dan la bienvenida y te invitan a contemplarlas desde un arte innovador e ingenioso.
Así se le conoce a la Plaza Botero: un museo al aire libre, que muestra su perfección en 23 esculturas de bronce, rodeadas de palmeras que hacen perfecto juego con el azul del cielo y las ropas multicolores de los turistas de todas partes del mundo que visitan este lugar para encontrar algo nuevo entre tanto edificio y el tráfico de la ciudad.
El autor es Fernando Botero, dibujante, pintor y escultor colombiano, reconocido por utilizar mucha voluptuosidad en sus trabajos artísticos que despiertan la curiosidad y la atención, lo que te lleva a admirar “una belleza monumental”. Las 23 esculturas en la plaza, fueron donadas por el artista Botero y representan cada una de ellas temas específicos.
Esta plaza, fácilmente se convierte en un parque que te convida a disfrutar del arte en todas sus manifestaciones, ya que en frente se encuentra el Museo de Antioquia, el más importante de la ciudad, donde se aprecian otras obras del autor.

En mes de octubre, del 2021, la revista norteamericana Time Out publicó el listado de los 49 barrios más ‘cool’ del mundo, entre ellos se encontraba uno en el centro de Medellín, La Candelaria. Este ocupó el puesto 12 en la lista, según la revista, fue escogido por su mezcla de cultura y la naturaleza, junto a los diversos planes que hay para hacer en la zona.
Si bien para hacer esta selección el medio se basó en el criterio de turistas y expertos extranjeros, El centro de Medellín sigue siendo el barrio de Medellín con la oferta cultural y artística más nutrida. Los teatros están en el centro, la música está en el centro. Nuestra idea de medellín, se construye en el centro a través de los espacios artísticos y culturales. Nadie tiene más claro la ciudad de Medellín, que quienes habitan el centro de forma artística. La noche en el Centro de Medellín, se vuelve bastante interesante porque aquí pasa el teatro, pasa la poesía, pasa la música, pasa todo lo que tiene que pasar en una ciudad para convertirse en una ciudad cosmopolita.

Plazuela San Ignasio en Medellín:
La plazuela de San Ignacio es un espacio público relativamente pequeño. Ubicada en pleno centro de Medellín, está cerca de la Avenida Oriental, La Playa y el Parque de San Antonio. Es uno de los sitios que más historia en materia de educación le puede aportar a la ciudad ya que aquí nació la Universidad de Antioquia. Uno de las peculiaridades de este espacio es la gente que lo concurre. En palabras del portal CentroDeMedellín, la Plazuela de San Ignacio “es la sede de un informal club de ajedrez al aire libre. Un club excéntrico y a la intemperie que en lugar de mesas usa los bordes de las jardineras, y en vez de directivos y afiliados, tiene fieles y obsesivos. No tienen nombre ni residencia fija, pero tienen la Plazuela.”
