Welcome to a very beautiful and relaxing place, the Mandir de Médines on the west coast of the island of Mauritius. This is a really big temple and even has live peacocks and an amphitheatre. There are beautifully decorated buildings and incredible works of art. Entry to the temple is free and really worth a visit. You can reach the temple by road from the village of Flic en Flac, or from the village of Bambous around the avenue of Flamboyan. There is plenty of parking.

Welcome to the Port Louis walking tour, and let's explore together and find out what life is like in Port Louis. Port Louis is the capital of the island of Mauritius, which is located in the northwest of the island. It is the most populous city and about 150 thousand people live here - it is also the largest city on the island of Mauritius. There is Chinatown, the dominant feature of which is the pagoda, then there is the government building from 1738, Fort Adelaide, Mauritius Postal Museum , Central market , or the botanical gardens of the East India Company. The capital, Port Louis, was founded in 1736 and there are still preserved buildings from the colonial era. Other larger towns are Beau Bassin-Rose Hill, Vacoas - Phoenix, Curepipe and Quatre Bornes.

Seit der Entdeckung und Besiedelung Mauritius' vor 400 Jahren wurde vom Menschen stark in das sensible Ökosystem eingegriffen. Manche der heimischen Tierarten wurden ausgerottet, wie der Dodo, die Riesenschildkröte und der Mauritiusfalke. Kein geringerer als Charles Darwin, der Begründer der Evolutionsbiologie, siedelte die Aldabra-Schildkröten wieder an. Auf der vorgelagerten Insel Îles aux Aigrettes, der Arche Noah Mauritius', wird sein Vermächtnis bis heute fortgeführt.
Mangrovenwälder an der Blauen Lagune wirken wie Filter und sorgen für ein sauberes Meer. Doch wer säubert die Mangroven? Die Umweltorganisation Eco-Sud geht mit Schülern auf die Suche nach Müll, der sich in den Netz-ähnlichen Wurzeln der Bäume verfangen hat.
Eine weitere Gruppe von Naturschützern kümmert sich um die Wiederansiedelung und Aufzucht von Korallen - ausgerechnet in dem gesunkenen Wrack eines Schiffes, das früher der Industriefischerei diente.
