Maasai Mara is one of the best places to see lions in Africa, as they have over 800 in the park.We saw tons of lions on safari and we lucked out on our first day and saw a Cheetah. The safari continued with amazing animal encounters over our two days in the park.

In August this year, I had the privilege of visiting the Maasai Mara in Kenya for the first time. Stu Porter of Wild4 African Photo Safaris had invited me along on an epic adventure that started with four nights at Entim Mara Camp on the bank of the Mara River.
During that time, we drove the Maasai Mara National Reserve and Mara Triangle flat in search of lions, leopards, cheetahs and of course, The Great Migration. Luckily for us, the mega herds of wildebeest had already arrived in the Maasai Mara and were feeding on the freshly burnt plains in the Mara Triangle. We spent one whole morning with the mega herds and even witnessed two incredible river crossings.
We also had amazing big cat sightings and I treated myself to a hot air balloon ride over the Maasai Mara...because, why not!?

The Masai Mara is a vast savannah that covers over 1,510 square kilometers of land in Kenya, forming the northern part of the Mara-Serengeti ecosystem. The region is home to a variety of wildlife that is present throughout the year, making it an excellent year-round safari destination. In Kenya, there are two rainy seasons: the “long rains” from mid-March to June, and the “short rains” from October to December. The dry season runs from June to November, which is considered the best time to view game in the Masai Mara.

A Leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve
A leopard attacking a provocative photographer in the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. This photographer, who either chose to ignore the park rules or just was not briefed correctly, risked his life as a leopard tried to grab his foot.
As you can clearly tell, this vicious leopard was not very impressed and would have harmed the photographer. Even through leopard attacking people is rare, this is not to mean that you should play around with an leopard while on a safari. In fact, the best thing a guide should do when any wildlife gets so close to a tourist vehicle is to move away.
The management of Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya has already banned the camp and the guides who allowed this photographer to get involved in the would-be unfortunate encounter with a leopard.
