Island Hopper to POHNPEI, MICRONESIA from the Marshall Islands! | Pacific Island Travel Vlog

We are going to the beautiful Island of POHNPEI! Other islands of FSM include Yap, Chuuk, and Kosrae (which the island hopper lands on almost all of them!).

Warning - if you get motion sick or don't like itty bitty airplane run ways - the United Island Hopper from Hawaii to Guam might not be for you. There were some ROUGH landings haha

But we survived!

And we had the most amazing time in Pohnpei! Most of our days consisted of getting work done in the room, a meal a day at the attached restaurant, and then walking into town with spray because a few of the dogs were not very happy.

Episode 153
__________
About Us

We met in college and started a five year journey to graduate, get jobs, pay off student loans and save money to travel. After getting married we bought a one way ticket to Greece in July of 2021 and have been traveling around the Globe since. Living abroad definitely brings some unique experiences.

These laidback Youtube videos will be our way of keeping in touch with family and friends as we explore different countries, try new and strange foods (and of course pizza), and see how many times we can avoid airplane fares. These homevideos will be the only souvenir we end up with at the end (only because nothing else will fit in our bags).

Thanks for watching!

(pro tip: if you click on ‘settings’ on the youtube video and put the playback speed to ‘2’ it goes by faster!)

Marshall Islands Travel Video

Marshall Islands Travel Video - The air is tangy with sea salt on the thousand or so slender, flat coral islands that make up the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI). Living on these narrow strips of land between ocean and lagoon, the Marshallese are expert fishers and navigators, having long been reliant on the sea.

Local faces reflect the islands history. In the late 1700s, after 2000 years of isolation, these Micronesian islands were variously visited, settled, colonised or occupied by British, Russians, Germans, Japanese and Americans (at first by missionaries, later by defence forces). Today the more developed atolls have a sense of all these influences, with well-stocked stores carrying international groceries, restaurants serving the food of several nations, and basketball courts on many street corners. On the quieter backstreets the Marshallese continue to live in family compounds, surrounded by flowers. The two main atolls have quite different characters. While its Westernised, the capital, Majuro Atoll, retains much of the languid feel of the tropics. In contrast, Kwajalein Atoll is leased to the US military for missile testing and is virtually closed to nonmilitary visitors, its local workers shuttled to the wall-to-wall tenements of Ebeye.

The RMIs charm lies in its outer islands which - except for the traumatic nuclear history of some - still retain the pristine feel of the tropical Pacific. If you have only a few days to spend here, dont run your schedule too tightly alongside that of Air Marshall Islands (AMI) - it generally serves outer atolls just once weekly, and delays of up to many days are common. You can still get a feel for the classic Robinson Crusoe lifestyle by visiting one of the small islands in Majuro Atoll, though divers often bypass Majuro and head straight to Bikini for WWII wreck-diving or Rongelap for nature-diving.

Marshall Islands | Trip | Tourism | Country | Cities | Travel #011

Comprising over a thousand flat coral islands of white sand beaches and turquoise lagoons, the Marshall Islands beckon visitors with all the promise of a tropical paradise. There are pristine diving and lush tropical greenery, and the Marshallese people retain many of their precolonial crafts and traditions, especially on the outer islands. You can still watch outrigger canoes zip-ping around the lagoons, though these days you are as likely as not to find a VCR in that little grass shack and Coke replacing coconut milk as the drink of choice of many islanders.
Marshallese society has always been stratified, and despite increasing Westernization and the introduction of a moneyed economy, social status still comes as much from one's kinship as it does from one's own achievements. Chiefs continue to wield a great deal of authority over land ownership and usage.

Majuro Bridge in Majuro, Marshall Islands

Located in Majuro Atoll in the Marshall Islands, the Majuro Bridge is a significant attraction which could be worth sightseeing when in the Marshall Islands. It is a stable structure of zen origins which connects two islands, allowing people to pass from one to the other. It is also considered by the local of the Marshall Islands as the highest point in the nation. A lovely area for running or just sightseeing, you could see witness the beautiful ocean surf from the bridge. You could also enjoy observing the murals which are found underneath the bridge.
See the capital in full from Majuro Bridge. The bridge connects the small and large islands of Majuro, perfect for snapping pictures or simply taking in the views. Fishing boats come and go from here, while the graffiti on the side of the bridge represents the history of the Marshallese people. Enjoy looking at the clear, crystalline water--just don't try swimming, since the currents can be quite strong.
