Manihiki, Cook Islands

Manihiki atoll is 1200 kilometres northwest of Rarotonga in the distant Northern Group and home to the exquisite Cook Islands cultured black pearl. Manihiki’s deep crystal clear lagoon is ideal for the black-lipped oyster to be carefully raised and implanted with a nucleus that develops after 18 months into a gorgeous gem. The bases for the pearl farms are often located precariously on a kaoa (coral head) in the lagoon where seeding and harvesting operations take place. Given the large lagoon and the small islands that surround it, the local residents main form of transport is a small aluminium dinghy. The islands population number is only around 240, depleted seriously after the devastating cyclone Martin in 1997. Located 40 kilometres nearby is Manihiki’s sister atoll Rakahanga. Today Manihiki is the second stopover on Air Rarotonga’s Northern Atolls Experience, giving visitors a unique opportunity to explore this isolated part of the Pacific.

Pearls of the Pacific: The Enchanting World of Manihiki's Lagoon

What Makes Manihiki The Jewel Of The Pacific? Finding Your Pearl Destiny is an enthralling video that unveils the allure and charm of Manihiki, a hidden gem in the Cook Islands renowned for its black pearl farming. This video is a treasure trove of information, revealing everything you need to know about the sparkling jewel of the Pacific.

Manihiki's legacy is intricately tied to the art of black pearl farming, a tradition that continues to yield over 20,000 exquisite black pearls annually despite the industry's contraction. These pearls are not just jewels; they are symbols of Manihiki's enduring connection to the sea and its treasures.

The island's beauty extends beyond its pearls. Manihiki is an atoll of breathtaking beauty, boasting a spectacular blue lagoon that serves as the heart of its pearl farms. These farms, set upon coral islets, dot the lagoon, mirroring the appearance of a string of pearls delicately laid upon the water.

Surrounding the lagoon are numerous Motus (small islets), each adding to the picturesque beauty of Manihiki. The clear waters, vibrant marine life, and tranquil islets offer a serene escape, making Manihiki a haven for those seeking beauty and tranquillity.

This video is more than a guide; it's an invitation to explore the enchanting world of Manihiki, discover its rich pearl farming heritage, and experience the serene beauty of one of the Pacific's most precious jewels.

Palmerston Island is one of those places we’ll remember forever. It’s the most remote place we’ve ever sailed, but that isn’t what makes it so memorable. The islanders have completely immersed us into their world from the moment we set our feet in the sand.

When we decided to buy a boat and set off into the deep blue, I dreamed of all the possibilities and experiences we would have. But I never expected it to play out so vividly in reality.

Yet, here we are, far away from civilization, living off coconuts and fish, playing with free spirited island kids and seeing firsthand what life is like when you live isolated with 34 of your relatives.

Enua Manea - Cook Islands TA'AKOKA Dance Troupe .

The Easy Life of Nassau Northern Cook Islands - 4K VLOG 209

The Kwai continues its Journey of unloading cargo on the tiny remote island of Nassau. Not the Nassau of the Bahamas, but of the remote Northern Cook Islands far off in the Pacific Ocean. We get a first hand interview of the joys of living in this tiny piece of paradise from a young local man who decided to stay while so many others left for a more modern life in Australia. After a musically exciting boat ride back to the Kwai we part ways with our friends of Nassau and set sail for Puka Puka.

Life on The Remote Island of Puka Puka - 4K VLOG 211

The Kwai departs for Nassau to rescue a kid that has fallen unconscious to bring him to medical attention, leaving me stranded on Puka Puka. Fortunately the kid made it to a hospital and fully recovered the last I heard.

I begin explorations of this remote island and begin to learn more of the laid back way of life and the systems that govern the people of the island. Seems to be the closest thing to a utopian society that I have experienced! At the end of the video we interview a local chief and learn more about the history and way of life on Pukapuka of the Northern Cook Islands.
