Mackinac Island, Michigan
Mackinac Island is an island located in Lake Huron, one of the Great Lakes, between the two peninsulas of the state of Michigan, in the United States. The island is a tourist attraction and receives many visitors during the summer months.

The British established a fort on the island in 1780. The Jay Treaty transferred the island to the United States in 1790, but the British did not abandon it until 1796. In 1865 the federal government created a protected area called Mackinac Island National Park, to preserve the natural and architectural heritage. In 1895 the park was transferred to the Michigan government.
Cars are not allowed inside the island. Transportation is mainly by horse and bicycle. There is a road around the periphery of the island and several paths and streets in the interior. Most visitors rent bikes or ride in carriages.
There are several points of historical and geological interest that can be visited. There are also a large number of sweet shops and souvenir shops along the main street of the town. For visitors who want to stay on the island, there are several hotels and guest houses. The most famous hotel is the Grand Hotel.

———————————————————————
The Grand Hotel is a historic hotel located on Mackinac Island, Michigan, a small island east of the Straits of Mackinac (Lake Huron). Built in the late 19th century, the hotel is known for a number of notable visitors, including five United States presidents, inventor Thomas Edison, and writer Mark Twain. Also, the movies Ask time to come back (1980) and This Time for Keeps (1947) were filmed here.
In 1886 formed the Mackinac Island Hotel Company. The group purchased the land on which the hotel was built and began construction, based on designs by Detroit architects Mason and Rice.
In 1957, the Grand Hotel was designated a State Historic Building. In 1972, the hotel was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and on June 29, 1989, the hotel became a National Historic Landmark.
In September 2019, Dan Musser III announced that his family, who owns the hotel for almost nine decades, he is selling it to KSL Capital Partners.

Fort Mackinac is a former British and American military garrisoned post from the late 18th to the 19th centuries in the town of Mackinac Island, Michigan, on Mackinac Island. The British built the fort during the American Revolutionary War to control the strategic Straits of Mackinac between Lake Michigan and Lake Huron and, by extension, the Great Lakes fur trade.

MACKINAC ISLAND, U.S.A. (4K City Tour) Stunning Day/Night and Walking/Aerial Footage

(4K City Tour) Stunning Day/Night and Walking/Aerial Footage features stunning and spectacular aerial, walking, and drone video footage shot in the day and at night, great for travel, visit, vacation, and tourism planning set to original music. Mackinac Island (MAK-in-aw) is a city in Mackinac County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The city has a permanent population of 492. The summer population numbers in the thousands due to an influx of summer visitors and hundreds of seasonal workers. Established as an important fur trading center in the eighteenth century, with a predominately French-speaking population of French Canadians and Métis, after the War of 1812 the city gained more Anglo-American residents. The US put restrictions on Canadians for fur trading. From 1818 until 1882 the city served as the county seat of the former Michilimackinac County, which was later organized as Mackinac County, with St. Ignace designated as the county seat. The city includes all of Mackinac Island and it also originally included nearby Round Island which is unpopulated and now federally owned and part of the Hiawatha National Forest. The state park and the national forest make up most of the island.

A unique local ordinance passed in 1898 prohibits the use of any motor vehicles on the island. Today the most common means of travel are foot, bicycle, or horseback. Certain enumerated exceptions include emergency vehicles, service vehicles, electric wheelchairs for those with disabilities, snowmobiles in winter, and golf carts for on-course use only. Mackinac Island is home to the famed Grand Hotel, built during the nineteenth century when the island was a summer destination. When the 1980 movie Somewhere in Time was filmed here, the city made an exception to allow the production company to use motorized vehicles on the island.

Mackinac Island is noted for its many fudge shops, a tourist attraction. The island has a large craft industry devoted to making fudge in a traditional manner, creating portions on cold marble slabs. The many varieties are a tourist draw and frequently given as gifts throughout Michigan.

Mackinac Island (MAK-in-aw; French: Île Mackinac) is an island and resort area, covering 4.35 square miles (11.3 km2) in land area, in the U.S. state of Michigan. It is located in Lake Huron, at the eastern end of the Straits of Mackinac, between the state's Upper and Lower Peninsulas. The island was long home to an Odawa settlement and previous indigenous cultures before European colonization began in the 17th century. It was a strategic center of the fur trade around the Great Lakes. Based on a former trading post, Fort Mackinac was constructed on the island by the British during the American Revolutionary War. It was the site of two battles during the War of 1812 before the northern border was settled and the US gained this island in its territory.

In the late 19th century, Mackinac Island became a popular tourist attraction and summer colony. Many of the structures on the island have undergone extensive historical preservation and restoration. Because of its historic significance, the entire island is listed as a National Historic Landmark. It is well known for numerous cultural events; a wide variety of architectural styles, including the Victorian Grand Hotel, and its ban on almost all motor vehicles. More than 80 percent of the island is preserved as Mackinac Island State Park.
