Port Moresby Nature Park, Papua New Guinea

Last Saturday, January 7, 2023, my kids and I paid a visit to Port Moresby Nature Park, which started out as the National Botanical Gardens in 1975.

It is literally an urban jungle in Port Moresby where one can escape to find peace and quiet in natural surroundings. You can stroll around enjoying the flora and fauna, rest under the shady trees or sit down on the benches and read.

The park was just about to close when we arrived, fortunately, we had enough time to walk around the park and see some of the animals and birds with most already calling it a day.

This is a video I shot with my IPhone 13 Pro and DJI OM5 gimbal.

ABOUT PORT MORESBY NATURE PARK

In 2012, National Botanical Gardens became the Port Moresby Nature Park, and nine years on has expanded and transformed itself to become Papua New Guinea's leading tourist attraction focused on the conservation and preservation of our unique fauna and flora.

Spread over 30 acres of tranquil tropical gardens, the park is home to over 350 native animals and hundreds of plant species, many of which are rarely seen outside of PNG.

Port Moresby Nature Park is PNG's only internationally-recognised wildlife park and sets the benchmark in PNG for tourism, animal welfare, conservation, research and community nature-based education. It hosts over 130,000 visitors to the park each year.

The Park has won a number of international awards for its work including the historic Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia (ZAA) award for its Sister Zoo Capacity Development Partnership Program in 2016, and again in 2018 it won an education award for small institutions for its World Wildlife Week programme focused on educating school-aged children about the importance of native wildlife conservation and preservation.

For its consistent delivery of its mission in wildlife conservation and research, the Port Moresby Nature Park has recently won two international awards in the 2021 Zoo and Aquarium Association of Australasia (ZAA) in the small institutions category for its Exhibit Design in the construction of the 'Reptile Haus', a first of its kind in PNG. In the second award, the Park again in the small institutions category won the Engagement Award for its 'Snaketastic' Program.

Awarded the Trip Advisor Certificate of Excellence over three consecutive years it's the only attraction in PNG to have done so.

MAP OF PAPUA NEW GUINEA

hello my friends. this is a map of Papua new guinea. The mainland of the country is the eastern half of New Guinea island, where the largest towns are also located, including Port Moresby, (the capital) , and Lae; other major islands within Papua New Guinea include New Ireland, New Britain, Manus and Bougainville.

Located north of the Australian mainland, the country's geography is diverse and, in places, extremely rugged. A spine of mountains, the New Guinea Highlands, runs the length of the island of New Guinea, forming a populous highlands region mostly covered with tropical rainforest, and the long Papuan Peninsula, known as the 'Bird's Tail'. Dense rainforests can be found in the lowland and coastal areas as well as very large wetland areas surrounding the Sepik and Fly rivers. This terrain has made it difficult for the country to develop transportation infrastructure. This has made it so that air travel is often the most efficient and reliable means of transportation. The highest peak is Mount Wilhelm at 4,509 metres. Papua New Guinea is surrounded by coral reefs which are under close watch, in the interests of preservation. Papua New Guinea's largest rivers are in New Guinea and include Sepik, Ramu, Markham, Musa, Purari, Kikori, Turama, Wawoi and Fly. thats all. please comment and subscribe for the best maps. goodbye.

#papua #papuaindonesia #papuanewguinea #mapschool #mapsolo #petamap #cartemap #mapamap #kartemap

My short trip in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea ????????

November 2018, my short trip in Port Moresby, just one night. Because I just transited here, with 21 hours. Long journey to return home in Indonesia from Solomon Islands. Flight route from Solomon Islands - Papua New Guinea - Philippines - Indonesia.

I stay at Malolo Haven @malolohavenbnb. The Malolo Haven is a perfect setting as it is an example of a Melanesian family setting. Malolo means rest in Papua New Guinea pidgin and so come rest and have peace.

The price is PGK 155.04/night or USD 44.30/night (in 2018). Complete facilities, pick up at Jacksons international airport to hotel, guests will be able to have access to the swimming pool without fees, they will have access to the living room and a 21 inch TV with 35 channels, and will have thier own rooms to themselves which is air-conditioned and they will have access to the Warpin Deck which gives travellers a perfect resting place over looking the swimming pool. A great getaway for a small family with the swimming pool for everyone including a children's pool. Rooms are affordable and on budget which includes continental breakfast.

Port Moresby, city and capital of Papua New Guinea, southwestern Pacific Ocean. The city is situated on the eastern shore of Port Moresby Harbour of the Gulf of Papua. ????????????????????????

A flight from Mt Hagen to Port Moresby

Join me at windowside on a flight from Mt Hagen to Port Moresby

Our Air Niugini F70 Flight 183 from Mt Hagen to Port Moresby on Sunday, January 16, 2022, takes us over the great Wahgi Valley and Chimbu.
I see the valley below, the Wahgi River meandering like a giant snake, and the historical coffee and tea plantations.
I think about the Leahy brothers and Jim Taylor who discovered the valley in the 1930s.
They walked all the way from my home in Salamaua, Morobe (the New Guinea boom town of the 1930s), through valleys, mountains and rivers to find this hitherto unknown land: A people that time forgot.
Up in the cockpit is young Engan pilot Captain Lloyd Timano.
He epitomises how the Highlands of PNG has changed since the days of 'First Contact' - from Stone Age to Jet Age.
The sky is so clear I can see for miles and miles.
I can see the towering Wilhelm in the distance.
Down below is Karamui, South Chimbu, touted as the next 'food bowl' of Papua New Guinea.
I can't help but become a tad emotional as I see the panorama unfold before my eyes.
Oh Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder, consider all the world Thy hand has made...
God has given us a beautiful country with so many, many resources.
We are not poor, as some would like us to believe, far from it.
We must all build this country, with positivity, not destroy it with negativity.
The plane starts descending into Port Moresby.

On Board Air New Guinea, from Port Moresby to Lae, Papua New Guinea

I was trying out my camera on-board Air New Guinea from Port Moresby to Lae, it was an awesome experience, loved my visit to Finchhaffen, it was indeed sweet!

Night Flight Over Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea

Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea has a bad stereotype of being “So dangerous” and a “terrible city”

Port Moresby in Papua New Guinea has a bad stereotype of being “So dangerous” and a “terrible city” ????

I’d love to know if the people who said that have ever even been there, or if they have, what they decided to do, because I was there and I definitely didn’t find it dangerous, in fact, I found it pretty similar to many cities I see on my travels!

In fact, I was actually very pleasantly surprised to find the fabulous aspects of Port Moresby!

I didn’t ignore the many danger concerns, I just acted as the smart, positive, and open minded traveler that I am, and booked nice hotels in recommended areas, and did things that both expats and locals recommended…not someone who went for a couple days to say they went to PNG and had no idea what to do so found it scary.

I must emphasize on the fact that I felt safe bc of where I stayed and the particular things I did. I did not walk around alone at night or venture off into areas I wasn’t recommended. Some may claim that’s not being adventurous but idgaf because I was safe and I had a great time!

If you travel to Papua New Guinea, staying in Port Moresby is usually necessary as it is the hub to get anywhere else (other areas are all only accessible by plane).

Check out my full Ultimate Papua New Guinea Travel Guide for my safe and fab Port Moresby recommendations, and also my new long post about the safety concerns and current dangers in PNG. (Link in bio)

Also big shout out to the wonderful people in Port Moresby and all of PNG! You are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people I have encountered on my many travels! ????????

Have you heard anything about Port Moresby? Does negative media coverage keep you from going certain places?
