MPUMALANGA VLOG - Lisbon falls, Graskop Gorge, Pinnacle Rock (South Africa)

We visit Graskop Gorge Co., Pinnacle rock and Lisbon falls.

On our last day in Mpumalanga we:
* had breakfast at Harries pancakes
* went to Graskop gorge where you can walk on the suspension bridge, zip line or do the big swing
* went to the Pinnacle rock - there was mist/fog but it was still pretty
* went to the most beautiful waterfall in Mpumalanga (in my opinion) which is Lisbon falls. It is the highest waterfall in Mpumalanga

Mpumalanga is a province in South Africa

A day trip on the PANORAMA ROUTE | South Africa

We recently did a day trip on the world famous Panorama Route in north-eastern South Africa. We visited four of my favourite places along the Panorama Route, namely: The Three Rondavels View Point, Bourke's Luck Potholes, Harrie's Pancakces and the Graskop Gorge Lift.

Graskop Gorge Lift Co:
Harrie's Pancakes in Graskop:

The Three Rondavels is arguably the most beautiful view point along the whole Panorama Route and close to the northern tip of the route, about an hour and a half's drive from Hoedspruit. From the view point you look down over the Blyde River Canyon - the third largest canyon in the world after the Grand Canyon and the Fish River Canyon.

From The Three Rondavels we drove south to Bourke's Luck Potholes, which are stunning geological formations in the Blyde River Canyon at the confluence of the Blyde- and Treur rivers. I hadn't been there since I was 12 years old and it was wonderful to experience it again.

Afterwards, we grabbed some lunch at Harrie's Pancakes in Graskop before heading to the Graskop Gorge Lift Company just south of town. Here we took the lift 51 meters into the gorge below, where a series of walkways and suspension bridges lead us 600m through the indigenous forest. It really is a world class facility, with plenty of excellent and informative information boards along the way. Even though I've never been there, it felt like I was walking in a jungle in Costa Rica!

If you visit South Africa's Kruger National Park or other parts of the Lowveld, you simply have to visit the Panorama Route!

ROAD TRIP THROUGH THE PANORAMA ROUTE | EXPLORING WATERFALLS & HIDDEN GEMS | MPUMALANGA, SOUTH AFRICA

Since South Africa has so many long weekends, I decided to make use of this opportunity and arranged a trip to the Lowveld of South Africa, otherwise known as Mpumalanga. Mpumalanga is an incredible province and it was an absolute pleasure exploring this amazing part of our country.

I took along one of my very good friends, Ruan Pretorius, and left for Mpumalanga on the 19th of March. Our first stop was in the Kaapschehoop where we completed 2 hikes, one of which contained a waterfall! Later that day we made our way to Graskop where we stayed at The Graskop Hotel. The next day we made our way to Sabie and did a short little hike to Bridal Veil Falls. Once we've reached the waterfall we decided to do a little activity that will spike the adrenaline. So, we contacted Kestell Adventures and did a canyoning activity to the bottom of Mac Mac Falls. What an awesome experience! We ended off the day by meeting some family members next to the Sabie River and headed back to The Graskop Hotel.

On Sunday we explored the blyde River Canyon and camped out there for the night and on Monday we did a few hikes and drove to Limpopo in the afternoon. As soon as we arrived in Limpopo, we made our way to umVangati House, which was the accommodation we stayed in. Words can't even explain the experience we had there. UmVangati has the most amazing views and this is totally the place to go if you're ever looking for a weekend breakaway.

On our last day, we did another epic hike and made our way home late afternoon.

This trip was another eye-opener of how beautiful our country really is. I hope that this video inspires you to explore our beautiful country and all it has to offer.

Thanks again, stay tuned for more of my travels through South Africa.

2 incredible days in Sabie & Graskop, Mpumalanga, South Africa

Sabie and Graskop are towns next to each other in Mpumalanga, South Africa. We drove from Johannesburg to see these two tranquil and breath-takingly beautiful towns.
There are several water falls in the area. Blyde river and Treur river flow through these towns. Too many scenic spots like the God's window, pinnacle rock, 3 rondavels, potholes, canyons, gorges etc.
We thoroughly enjoyed our two full days in these lush green, mountainous towns and we hope you enjoy them too.

The village popular for its grassy mountains was our destination for a glamping experience. It didn't disappoint. Waterfalls roared, God's Window opened an awe-inspiring world as the adrenaline pumped at the Graskop Gorge. Great travel experience in South Africa.

Graskop Gorge Lift Company - Extended Version

The Graskop Gorge Lift Company is centrally located on the Panorama Route. While it is an ideal stopover point, it is also an end destination in its own right, with lots to do on-site and in the area. Most areas are wheelchair and pram friendly.

The Lift Café, Swing Café, Crafts and Curios
Choose from two restaurants: the Lift Café restaurant and bar or the Swing Café and remember to visit the Community Craft Centre and on-site shops.

The Lift & Forest
The viewing lift takes visitors 51m down the face of the gorge into the indigenous forest below, where wooden walkways and suspension bridges make up a 600m trail.

Big Swing
The Big Swing is one of the world’s highest cable gorge swings and launches off the top of a waterfall.

Zipline
Visitors to the centre who still want to get their hearts racing but who think the Big Swing is too extreme for them, can choose to fly across the gorge on a high-wire Double Zipline.

Suspension Bridge
Our spectacular 52m-long Suspension Bridge spans the northern and southern sides of the gorge. Enjoy spectacular views while standing 70m above the ground.

MPUMALANGA | PANORAMA ROUTE, South Africa

In Dec 2022 we took a drive to the Mpumalanga Province driving across the breathtaking Panorama Route.
The magnificent Panorama Route in South Africa’s Mpumalanga province is one of the continents great natural wonders and one of the world’s most beautiful driving routes. Centred around the Blyde River Canyon, the world’s third largest canyon, the Panorama Route offers a dramatic terrain of lush mountain peaks scarred with ochre cliff faces. Dozens of magnificent waterfalls, raging rivers and one of the largest afforested areas in South Africa.

The Pinnacle Rock, Graskop, Mpumalanga - South Africa

Along the scenic Panorama Route, in the South African province of Mpumalanga, are speckled a number of attractions that are not only naturally beautiful, but also geologically, historically and culturally relevant. These include Bourke’s Luck Potholes, God’s Window, the Three Rondawels and Wonder View, as well as the intriguing Pinnacle Rock. All of these add so much to the tourism offering, demonstrating how varied and abundant South Africa is. The Pinnacle Rock is a massive quartzite rock that erupts from the earth’s surface and reaches some 30 metres in height. It is a freestanding rock that towers over the dense indigenous forest of Driekop Gorge in a dramatic display of nature’s quirks and the unique splendour of South Africa. It is littered with stunning, brightly-coloured aloes that not only add to the appeal amongst the local birds and insect species, but also make for extra beautiful photographs of the rock and its surrounds.

There are public ablutions available here, as well as vendors sitting at this attraction selling African curious and keepsakes. These stalls are a delight to visitors and locals alike and the vendors are friendly and helpful.

From here, you may carry on to the town of Graskop, which is a mere five kilometres away, or God’s Window, which is less than six kilometres from the rock. Graskop is a little forestry town on the very edge of the Drakensberg, offering breath-taking vistas and a very special experience of this country. There are also a number of stunning waterfalls along the Panorama Route and nearby to the Pinnacle Rock.
