Join Redfern Adventures ( ) for an expedition to the spectacular summit of Mount Roraima, known as South America's 'Lost World'.

This 12-day itinerary is a trekking expedition that involves ascending a ledge up Mount Roraima's cliffsides to spend four days on the summit of Mount Roraima to discover the wonders that the mountain holds: its vast labyrinth of stone pinnacles, caves, the valley of the crystals, the triple-point border between Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil, and of course, unique wildlife, including orchids and carnivorous plants!

Mount Roraima - Mysterious Mountain

Mount Roraima, at 2,800 metres, is the tallest tepuy (“Table Mountain” in Spanish) in South America. The name came from the Pemon word ‘Roroi-ma’, meaning “big blue green”. Trekking up its Venezuela side, the Gran Sabana takes you to the summit. While its cliff walls are only scalable by the most experienced of climbers, there is a path up the mountain’s natural ramp-like path (usually a two-day hike). In 1884 Sir Everardim Thurn became the first person recorded to climb Roraima.

However, the mountain is worth a visit for more reasons than its impressive cliffs. Mount Roraima, part of Venezuela's 30000-square-kilometer Canaima National Park, is the site of the highest peak of the country of Guyana’s Highland Range. The mountains of this range, including Roraima, are considered to be some of the oldest geological formations known, some dating back to two billion years ago. Its near daily rains have also created a unique ecosystem which includes several endemic species, such as a unique carnivorous pitcher plant, and some of the highest waterfalls in the world.

Culturally, the mountain has long held significance to the indigenous people of the area and features prominently in their myths and folklore. This remote landscape of jungle and cliffs has inspired the dinosaur infested landscapes of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s novel The Lost World, and the dramatic waterfalls dubbed Paradise Falls in the 2009 Pixar film Up.

The Islands in the Sky - Mt Roraima and the Tepuis

Today we look at one of the most beautiful and unique mountains in the world - Mount Roraima. Located in South America, it borders Guyana, Brazil, and Venezuela. It is the tallest point in Guyana. We will also talk about Tepuis in general - going over how they were formed.

World's highest Waterfall - the most beautiful Angel Waterfalls of Venezuela

Angel Falls are the tallest and most beautiful waterfall in the world. It drops from a cleft near the summit. The falls are 979 meters (3,212 ft) high, with an uninterrupted descent of 807 meters (2,648 ft) — a drop nineteen times higher than that of Niagara Falls. Auyán Tepui in Bolívar state, Venezuela, is the most visited and one of the largest tepuis in the Guiana Highlands.

Trip to Mount Roraima, Venezuela

Mount Roraima, Venezuela

This clip is about a 12-day trip to the top of the world - the summit of Roraima Mountain located in Canaima National Park, Venezuela. Half-day travel by four wheel drive on unpaved road, hiking (backpacking) for 2 days to reach the base, sleeping in a tent for 9 days total, away from civilization and conveniences. Taking baths in a river, eating packaged food, climbing the steep rock walls on the edge of the enormous sheer cliffs to 2,810 m (9,219 ft) elevation at the top, rain or shine.

Also known as Monte Roraima, Tepuy Roraima and Cerro Roraima, it's the highest of the Pakaraima chain of tepui plateau in South America. Most of Roraima is covered in the dense tropical rain forests of the Amazon Jungle. The mountain includes the triple border point of Venezuela, Brazil and Guyana.

This trip was to the southeastern corner of Venezuela's Canaima National Park. The tabletop mountains of this lost world are considered some of the oldest geological formations on Earth, dating back to some two billion years ago in the Precambrian with living species of exotic plants and animals found nowhere else on earth and older by age than dinosaurs.

MOUNT RORAIMA || Heaven On Earth || 2020

Title : MOUNT RORAIMA || Heaven On Earth || 2020

On the border between Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil stands a mystical mountain. Mount Roraima is one of the oldest mountains on Earth, and is what inspired Arthur Conan Doyle to write Lost World. The mountain is rising a thousand meters up from the jungle with vertical walls. However, the top is flat, with a varied wildlife and species of plants you can only find here.

This time-lapse video seeks to portray this mystical mountain in a way which represents my feeling of being there. This must be as close as it gets to heaven on Earth.

Mount Roraima - Island On Sky - Heaven On Earth -The Lost World

Portrayed as an island in the sky, one of the most supernatural and old rock formations in the globe – Mount Roraima is the highest of the Pakaraima chain of tepuis (table-top mountain) or plateaux in South America. First depicted to Europeans by the English explorer Sir Walter Raleigh during his 1595 expedition, its 31-square-kilometre (12-square-mile) summit region is limited on all sides by cliffs rising 400 metres (1,300 ft). The mountain also serves a the tripoint of Venezuela, Guyana and Brazil . Raleigh found out about it from indigenous peoples, who lived there before arrival of Europeans in the 1500–1600s.

This goliath flat-topped mountain appears as though cut from a single, solid rock development which has vertical walls with smooth surfaces. Roraima is one of the few table-top mountains on the planet. Table-top mountains exist only in South America – in the Guiana highlands.

Mount Roraima, a Mountain Surrounded by Clouds

It is one of the most unreachable places on Earth. That's why it has such a unique ecosystem.

Surrounded by clouds, this mountain in South America is nicknamed the floating island.

World's Most Mysterious Mountain | Unbelievable Places that Actually Exist

Mount Roraima is The World's Most Mysterious Mountain

Mount Roraima is a flat-topped mountain, typical of the Guyana Shield, with an elevation of about 1,200 meters in the southeast and only about 600 meters in the northwest. The south, southeast, east, northeast and northwest faces are all formed by straight cliffs up to about 1,000 meters high. At the southern end of the mountain, part of the cliff has collapsed, forming a spectacular natural boulder. The base of the cliff is surrounded by steep slopes to the south and east, and the north and west sides form river valleys leading to the summit.

Geography - Mount Roraima is located in the northern part of South America, the Pacarema Mountains in the eastern part of the Guyana Plateau, Brazil in the east accounting for 5% of its area, Guyana in the north accounting for 10%, and Venezuela in the south and west accounting for 85%. Access to Mount Roraima from the Venezuelan side is close to the road and relatively easy; however, for both Brazil and Guyana the area is completely isolated and can only be reached by a few days of forest hikes or small local airstrip.

Mount Roraima is a popular destination for hikers and climbers. The hike to the summit is challenging, but the views from the top are well worth it. The summit of Mount Roraima is a vast plateau with a unique ecosystem. The plateau is home to a variety of plants and animals, including many that are found nowhere else in the world.

Mount Roraima is a sacred place for the Pemon people, the original inhabitants of the area. The Pemon believe that Mount Roraima is the home of their gods. The mountain is also a popular destination for tourists. The views from the summit are breathtaking, and the hike to the top is an unforgettable experience.
