What is it like to travel FIRST CLASS on the Trans Siberian Railway? Join us as we travel from Russia to Ulaanbataar Mongolia on the Transsiberian train. After having travelled in second class and even a shorter ride in third class, we decided it was time to up the ante and travel in luxury (for once). In this video, you'll get a first class train tour as we show you our wagon on the overnight train!

We've fallen in love with train travel and the Transsiberian railway has really stolen our heart. After travelling more than 5000 km by train through Russia, we're finally going to Mongolia. We're super excited to reach Ulaanbataar (Ulan Bator in English). Our train journey has taken us from Tallin in Estonia, to Saint-Peterburg and Moscow to the middle of Russia, Yekaterinburg. Afterwards we travelled 56 hours on a train to reach the heart of Siberia in Irkutsk where we visited one of the highlights of Russia, Lake Baikal.

We start in Moscow before moving on to Irkustusk where we went to lake Baikal, the oldest lake in the world and breathtaking. After this, we moved on to Mongolia and did trips to stay with locals in a ger. This was the highlight and to us, the best thing to do on the Trans Siberian. The final stop was Beijing, where we visited the great wall of China and tasted Chinese food.

29 hours on a Russian Train: Trans Siberian Express

After two days exploring Moscow, we got on the train back to Beijing and our first leg of the trip was from Moscow to Yekaterinburg! This was a 29 hour train ride and we had a blast buying berries and sausages at different stops. This is either the first or last train for many people traveling on the Trans Siberian Express. Since we are going to Beijing (home) it was the first train, so we were extra excited to start our trip.

Becoming a Russian Walrus in KAZAN | Trans-Siberian Railway

In this episode of our Russia travel vlog series riding the Trans Siberian Railway, we arrive in the Capital of Tartarstan, Kazan!

scuba

On this leg of our great trip across Russia, we stop at The Blue Lake, a freezing pit of freshwater. Here, we learn about the famous Russian Walrus, or морж. These legendary beasts are brave men (or women) who polar dip in freezing water. While there is no snow this time of year, this lake is fed from ground water deep in the earth, and is a constant 5C.

After unthawing, we explore Kazan, and try traditional Tartarstan cuisine. This includes Chak-Chak, a famous dessert (so famous that there is a museum... we went.)

We end the day at the Kazan Kremlin, a beautiful complex featuring one of the nicest mosques I've ever seen.

A bit of a background story. This is a train journey of 10,000 km across Russia, the biggest country in the world. 25 days to visit Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Kazan, Yekaterinburg, Krasnoyarsk, Ulan-Ude, and Vladivostok.

Our Trans-Siberian DISASTER // Ulan Ude to Vladivostok

The last vlog of my Trans-siberian series and the last train ride we took, 72 hours from Ulan Due to Vladivostok. Pretty much a disaster ride and definitely not the most fun!

I think if you're more prepared it wouldn't have been so bad, or we you pay more money for a more expensive train you would be guaranteed food. All in all it was a very cool (but long) journey and adventure that I guess we secretly loved.

After more research I learned that because the restaurant carts aren't getting used enough, they are slowly taking them put of service on many routes in Russia!

Russian Train Food // My Trans-Siberian Railway Adventure

One of the most asked questions about my Trans Siberian Train Journey across Russia was What will you eat? Not only were people curious about the type of food on offer in Russia, but friends were also concerned HOW I would order Russian food when I don't speak any Russian.

From supermarket runs, to meals provided by the Provinitsa, to endless pot noodles, in search of the restaurant cart and searching for decent food in Kazan, Perm, Krasnoyarsk and cities across Siberia.

Here' s my experience and some advice for preparing to take the Trans Siberian train across Siberia.

Train food for the Trans Siberian Railway

4 days and 4 nights on the train from Moscow to Irkusk, this is the food we ate! Before we got on in Moscow, we visited a supermarket and packed 2 bags full of food for the trip. We did visit the dining car once, but every other meal was from the bags!

???? Trans-Siberian Express

This is a film about a trip on Trans-Siberian Express Train #2 from Moscow to Irkutsk over a period of 3 days and 4 nights. Travelling from Irkutsk from Moscow, we passed through 6 time zones and traversed some 5200 kms/3200 miles. Along the way we saw many interesting scenes of Russian life passing by.

SINGAPORE TO LONDON OVERLAND - Part 11: Trans-Siberian Train to Moscow, Russia ????????

Part 11 of my Singapore to London Overland journey

In 2016/17, I embarked on an overland journey, from Singapore to London, by train, bus and cruise ship. Some of the major routes include the Trans-Mongolian and Trans-Siberian railway.

An overland journey that crossed 2 continents / 14 countries / 19 cities, in 75 days.

Singapore - Malaysia - Thailand - Cambodia - Vietnam - China - Mongolia - Russia - Finland - Sweden - Denmark - Germany - France - UK

(Part 11)

In mid-Dec 2017, I took the train on the Trans-Siberian railway, on the Russian rail RZD, the firmeny train Rossiya 001. The train was very clean and well-maintained.

I bought the 1st class ticket (also known as SV) for 1 seat. The 1st class cabin has 2 seats, so I shared the cabin with another passenger along the way.

The Trans-Siberian Rossiya train timing in 2017 is outdated.
Please check or Seat61 for updated info.

There is a shower room, with hot water, in the carriage. It is usable for a fee of a couple of USD, (a few hundred rubles).

Moscow itself was an eye-opening experience. Very modern and just like any other bustling city with a long history.

To get around in Moscow Metro, make sure you download an offline metro map, learn some basic Cyrillic alphabet, and follow the colours/numbered markings in the stations.

In Mother Russia, cats do not “meow”. They “мяу”.

A lot of my research prior to travelling was gathered from Seat61.com.
