2. Huacachina
- Huacachina is a desert oasis and tiny village just west of the city of Ica in southwestern Peru. We made it to Machu Picchu! We decided to hike up. We began our hike at 4 am, however the gates open at 4:30. It took us about 2 hours to reach the top. For us it was a challenging hike as we haven't done anything like this for some time. The trail is steap. Take your time, bring a lot of water.

The Salkantay Trek is one of the most adventurous and beautiful ways to arrive to Machu Picchu. Spanning across 5 days and 4 nights, you will travel across glaciers, jungles, peaks, and valleys. In my personal opinion, this is the absolute best trek to take to get to the seventh wonder of the world.
This guide goes over every single thing you need to know and have prepared for the Salkantay trek. It covers the things you need to bring with you and buy beforehand, the itinerary, and the activities along the way. Essentially, it is a total summary for you to be fully prepared for when the time comes that you head up into the mountains for the first time.

Machu Picchu closed fro 8 months because of the pandemic and reopen with different new measurements. One of the best things about going to Machu Picchu during the pandemic is that Machu Picchu is not packed with people, the times I went before it was even difficult to walk. To get to Machu Picchu I stayed in Cusco for a few days. I then took a train from Ollantaytambo to Machu Picchu pueblo. From Machu Picchu pueblo I went to Machu Picchu on a bus, but you could walk it to save money. More detailed info in the video.
