North Macedonia is a country in Southeast Europe, which gained independence in 1991 as one of the successor states of Yugoslavia. Its capital Skopje is the city of statues. There are 1000 of them built as part of redevelopment project ‘Skopje 2014’, plan to attract more tourists. North Macedonia is also a cradle of European Christianity with 365 churches in a small city of Ohrid, referred to as a Jerusalem of the Balkans”. Ohrid and Lake Ohrid were accepted as Cultural and Natural World Heritage Sites by UNESCO.

In June 2007 I have traveled three weeks through the beautiful country of North-Macedonia and have used my old SD-Camcorder to make some recordings. I have combined these video clips into a HD-like video for youtube.
The music piece of the video is an old macedonian traditional song which I have arranged in a way to get an instrumental version for this video. It took me a rather long time to get used to the 7/8 beat of this song. A 7/8 beat is not usual in german music, which is a pity, because since I get used to 7/8 I like it a lot.
Many thanks to Kuzman Pop Stefanija (Ansambl Biljana) and his wife where I had a very nice stay in Ohrid and who told me much about traditional macedonian music.
