We continue out trip camping along the Great Lakes. This time, we camp on the East Coast of Lake Michigan, at Ludington State Park. A large, very popular campground set in the sand dunes around Lake Michigan.

The most popular state park in Michigan, Ludington State Park offers year-round adventure for individuals, couples, and families. After visiting the park for a weekend just to try to fit it all in, we realized this is one you can come back to again and again for fun and relaxation. It is a busy park though, so be prepared to be patient during the peak season. Check out our video review.

Ludington State Park Campground in Ludington Michigan is comprised of scenic sand dunes, a shoreline vista, ponds, marshlands and forests. It is situated between Hamlin Lake and Lake Michigan with several miles of shoreline and beaches on both bodies of water. There are three partial and primitive (no water, electric, or sewer) hookup RV and tent campgrounds; Pines, Cedar and Beechwood. Paved roads and dirt or paved camping pads this popular campground is best suited to RVs under 35″ in length due to narrow roads and cramped access.
A popular summer destination advanced reservations are recommended as is the idea of entering here not expecting peace and solitude. Guests can enjoy the pretty sand beaches on Lake Michigan, tube on the river, hike in the woods, riding bikes on the paved multi-use trail or just enjoy the great outdoors. Located at the end of M 116 driving to the park is a pretty venture passing through scenic Ludington, along sandy dunes and eventually arriving at the state park.
Sites have picnic tables and fire rings. Water spigots are dispersed throughout the grounds. There are a few pull thrus available.

We hiked the Ludington lighthouse trail that starts from the main park entrance, goes across the Michigan lake shore, arriving at the majestic Big Sable Point Lighthouse. This was built in 1867 and is one of the tallest lighthouse in Michigan, the tower height reach 112 feet (34 m).
The Ludington Park is known as the most popular state park in Michigan and we suggest a visit there to anyone who is looking for hiking, biking, camping or just spending a nice day on the lake and sand dunes.
