???? A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.

So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.

Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.

We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Russian River Falls Hike - Alaska

Russian River Falls Hike
4.6 miles out and back from the Lower Russian Lakes Trail, Chugach National Forest.

Trail is located inside the Russian River Campground, Cooper Landing, Alaska. - Milepost 52 of the Sterling Highway.

Easy hike / nature walk to beautiful waterfalls along the Russian River and during the salmon run (mid-June / July) you will see salmon leap up the waterfall; We were there just before. This is a very family friendly hike; we saw lots of little kids having a great time running the opposite way in the rain...

Parking at the trail-head was limited and we got lucky as the rain was causing people to leave as we were heading to the falls.

Be Bear Aware and keep an eye out, especially during the salmon runs.

Note: Day Pass may be required when you enter the campground area.

Katmai National Park and Preserve Peninsula Alaska USA

Katmai National Park and Preserve is an American national park and preserve in southwest Alaska, notable for the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes and for its brown bears. The park and preserve encompass 4,093,077 acres which is between the sizes of Connecticut and New Jersey. Most of the national park is a designated wilderness area. The park is named after Mount Katmai, its center piece stratovolcano. The park is located on the Alaska Peninsula, across from Kodiak Island, with headquarters in nearby King Salmon, about 290 miles southwest of Anchorage. The area was first designated a national monument in 1918 to protect the area around the major 1912 volcanic eruption of Novarupta, which formed the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes, a 40-square-mile , 100-to-700-foot-deep pyroclastic flow. The park includes as many as 18 individual volcanoes, seven of which have been active since 1900.
Initially designated because of its volcanic history, the monument was left undeveloped and largely unvisited until the 1950s. The monument and surrounding lands became appreciated for their wide variety of wildlife, including an abundance of sockeye salmon and the brown bears that feed upon them. After a series of boundary expansions, the present national park and preserve were established in 1980 under the Alaska National Interest Lands Conservation Act.

Katmai occupies the Pacific Ocean side of the Alaska Peninsula, opposite Kodiak Island on the Shelikof Strait. The park's chief features are its coast, the Aleutian Range with a chain of fifteen volcanic mountains across the coastal south eastern part of the park, and a series of large lakes in the flatter western part of the park. The closest significant town to the park is King Salmon, where the park's headquarters is located, about 5 miles down the Naknek River from the park entrance. The Alaska Peninsula Highway connects Naknek Lake near the entrance to King Salmon, continuing to the mouth of the river at Naknek. The road is not connected to the Alaska road system. Access to the park's interior is by boat on Naknek Lake. Another road runs from Brooks Camp to Three Forks, which overlooks the Valley of Ten Thousand Smokes. The 497-mile long coastline is deeply indented, running from the entrance to the Cook Inlet at Kamishak Bay south to Cape Kubugakli. The mountains run from southwest to northeast, about 15 miles inland.
The park includes McNeil River State Game Sanctuary and Refuge on Kamishak Bay. The Alagnak River, designated a wild river, originates within the preserve at Kukaklek Lake. The Naknek River, which empties into Bristol Bay, originates within the park. The park adjoins Becharof National Wildlife Refuge to the south. Of the park and preserve's acres, 3,922,529 acres are in the national park where all sport and subsistence hunting is prohibited. 418,548 acres are preserve lands, where both sport and subsistence hunting are permitted. The most commonly hunted species in the preserve includes the brown bear, which has led to some problems about bear hunting due to small preserve population sizes and stalking bears to close limits.

Pleasure in mud - Norddeich at low tide - German North Sea

Norddeich at low tide
End of July 2008
The Northgerman Northsea-coast has no direct access to the North Sea, because the offshore-islands block this way. The region between the isles and the coast so called tidal flat is drying out. Even when the water is back at high-tide, the water isn't deep enough to swim.
Therefore the community build a public outdoor-pool in the dyke.

Camping and Adventuring in The Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve

Exploring in The Green Swamp Wilderness Preserve along parts of The Florida National Scenic Trail. There are many primitive camping areas along the trails here and throughout this vast preserve. The trail follows the Withlacoochee River along some sections. The campsite in this video is known as Trial Ford Campsite not far from the Withlacoochee River. Its nice to explore off the beaten path and the various wild spaces in this place you never know what you may come across. There are many layers of history in these woods, along the way I visit an abandoned cabin by the river and mining quarry. The cabin has been standing for quite sometime and many memories were made here in the past so it's nice to see reminders of the history during these hikes. Throughout the woods are old Cypress trees and stumps many of the old growth Cypress trees were cut down during the logging era here in the 1800's and early 1900's. Enjoy the adventure and thank you for watching! See the links below for details on the area. Please be safe and prepared when venturing into these places.
