My experience immigrating to Uruguay | 2 year Update | Expat Diaries

If you're new here, I'm maddie, and 2.5 years ago I moved from Australia to Montevideo Uruguay with my Fiance. We moved here because Alejandro has family here, but we never expected things to be quite so difficult. So living here, as foreigners, with very little support during one of the most dramatic changes in the world (2020) this was my experience!
Of course I could talk about so much more, so if you have any questions please comment and I will reply.

Even though Uruguay is a small country, it offers a variety of interesting real estate opportunities. Two popular areas to consider are: The Pocitos area of Uruguay's capital Montevideo—for modern, urban living and Montevideo's Old City and Centro—for historic and period architecture.

Punta Del Este Uruguay | The Miami Beach of South America | 80+ Countries w/3 kids

Welcome to famous beaches of Punta del Este, Uruguay!

The first thing you’ll notice as you arrive to Playa Brava is one of Uruguay's most recognizable landmarks - a monster-sized hand protruding from the sand. This intriguing sculpture is called La Mano (The Hand) or Monumento al Ahogado (Monument to the Drowning Man), and it was done by Chilean artist Mario Irarrázabal.

This art piece was made during the summer of 1982, as a warning to swimmers who visited Punta del Este. Strong winds and rough waves at La Barra took many lives over the years, and La Mana stands here to prevent similar accidents in future. Even though Mario Irarrázabal had the whole summer to finish his project, working with eight other sculptors he made his idea come true within only six days.

Enjoy the video and join in on the fun as we reminisce about our trip to Uruguay a couple year ago.

Uruguay: Expat Life - International Living

Expat Life in Uruguay - International Living

If you're an expat in Uruguay, you'll find great support at regular English-speaking / expat meetings and get-togethers in Uruguay's most popular expat destinations, including Montevideo, Costa de Oro, Piriapolis, Punta del Este, and Colonia. On Sunday afternoon at Fellini's Ristobarreto in Montevideo's, a local man entertains the crowd playing an antique bandoneón (a type of concertina), commonly brought to Uruguay by German or Italian immigrants in the early 19th century...

Uruguay: Why I Moved Here - International Living

Why I Moved to Uruguay - International Living

It was probably just a matter of time before it happened to me. Real estate agents who take a vacation after going too long without one can get carried away. They may return with a tattoo, a vision-quest name, or a new mate they met at a blackjack table. Me? I returned telling everyone I was moving to the South American country of Uruguay.

I initially went from Washington State, where I lived, for a long needed getaway and to investigate the potential for real estate referrals and investment. But while I was in Uruguay I experienced some unexpected surprises. Like in Montevideo, Uruguay's capital.

It has Spanish influences and native traditions—as I expected to find in a Latin America city. But it also has neoclassic architecture and strong Italian influences, which I didn't expect. Uruguayans meet for pizza, greet each other with a kiss on the cheek, and speak Spanish with an Italian-like intonation. There is even opera.

Uruguay's southern coast is dotted with beach towns that fill up with vacationers in the summer. I spent time in Punta del Este, the largest beach resort in Uruguay.

Punta del Este is like a buffet of things I like. There is natural beauty, surfing, great places to run and cycle, and interesting people to meet. It has a relaxed elegance that reminds me of Santa Barbara.
