Ecuador: Live in Cuenca - International Living

Live in Cuenca, Ecuador - International Living

Cuenca, Ecuador's third-largest city and the economic center of the southern sierra, has long been known for a rich intellectual, artistic, and philosophical tradition that matches its colonial architecture.

It is famous for its colorful festivals, distinctive food and breath-taking scenery. Because of its history and state of preservation, Cuenca is one of Ecuador's three UNESCO World Heritage Trust sites (the others are Quito and the Galapagos Islands).

Founded in 1557, Cuenca was not connected to the rest of Ecuador with a paved road until the early 1960s, a fact that helped preserve both its architecture and heritage. On the other hand Cuenca has developed rapidly since then and today has a strong infrastructure and efficient transportation system.

Cuenca's growing expat community appreciates the city's history as well as its modern side. The fastest growing city in Ecuador since 2000, the city boasts plenty of supermarkets and malls, great restaurants, handsome condominium projects, and comfortable suburbs.

In 2010 I left a job in advertising, 5 year relationship and sold all my possessions to travel the world. In the last ten years I've had some crazy experiences and even owned a restaurant in Toronto at one time. And prior to 2020 I had been based in Cuba.

When the world shut down I returned to Canada and decided to teach myself video. I wanted to share more than just words and photos but to show people the adventures I have learning about food around the world.

Why I Left Ecuador Forever

In this video I’ll be sharing with you the reasons why I left Ecuador. As much as I loved experiencing a new culture and exploring some of the beautiful landscapes, I eventually made the difficult decision to leave. I want to share with you the factors that led me to this decision, the challenges I faced, and the lessons I learned along the way. Whether you’re someone who’s considering a move to Ecuador or simply curious about my personal experience, I hope this video provides you with valuable insights and a glimpse into my journey.

Living in Cuenca - Ecuador

Two girls from Canada Fell in love with Cuenca and they tell us about their experience in this beautiful city.

Tourism in Ecuador:

Murder in Vilcabamba, a tragic story related to the reality of living in Ecuador

In this video, I share the story of a family in Vilcabamba, Ecuador, who tragically lost a beloved member in a home invasion robbery. A mother of three brave teenage daughters valiantly defended another family member against one of the assailants but, sadly, lost her life in the process.

While this devastating incident may raise concerns, I want to emphasize that it is an isolated event and not reflective of Vilcabamba as a whole. Vilcabamba, known as the Valley of Longevity, offers a serene and welcoming environment that has attracted retirees from all over the world for its stunning landscapes, vibrant culture, and warm community.

On the flip side of the coin though, because of recent events similar to this one over the past year, it has become apparent that Vilcabamba may not be the best choice for a retiree at this time.

My aim is to encourage future retirees to not let this tragic news dissuade them from coming to Ecuador for your dream retirement and if you want to live in the Vilcabamba region, stay close to town until we begin to experience more positive cultural changes that make it safer to live there.

My Checklist for migration

Remember this folks.
A country might look good on paper, or on a YouTube video, but what about the “Chemistry” between you, the individual and the country and culture as a whole?
This is something we can’t know in advance. We can only make our move, dive in and test the waters…….and see how it goes.

If you can't walk on water, freeze it

I am not responsible for any decision you make after watching my videos.
I don't give advice and I don't recommend anything unless it is based on my own personal, verifiable experience.

I want to be sure that the information I provide is accurate information and I don't want people to make a poor choice based on anything I say.
If one person comes here based on my influence and doesn't like it at all, then has to return to start all over again, I have failed.

Expat Reflections - Why do I like living in Ecuador?

Life in Cuenca, Ecuador 2

Two expats talk about life in Cuenca, Ecuador, the cost of living, healthcare, etc...

EXPAT MISSING ECUADOR

Nicholas Crowder the author of culture Shock Ecuador and 100 Points to Consider Before Moving or retiring to Ecuador will release a new thriller about the dark side of Ecuador in 2014.

An expat from Houston Texas living the good life in what he believes is Paradise in Cuenca Ecuador vanishes without a trace. His wife does not know what to do and is fearful he may be dead. After limited assistance from the U.S. government, a friend in Cuenca refers her to Dragoman - a code word for Brandon Keene.

Mr. Keene while operating a research and open source intelligence team out of the U.S. actually has a private special ops team dedicated to rescuing others and leveling the field against malefactors when authorities fail to do their job.
