Lithuania in 4 Minutes
2 months of on and off filming, 2 drone crashes and about 20 hours of editing went into the making of this new film about my home country of Lithuania ????????. I love watching movies, and one day I hope to direct one, so this video reflects a bit of that dramatic cinema style mixed with my own. Not your typical travel video, I know. It was an amazing summer in Lithuania and I hope to return soon.
I was 12 when I moved to the United States from Lithuania. I have spent the last 17 years of my life here. It was a struggle to adapt to the culture, to find new friends, and to be able to call this place home. However, being quite young I was able to adapt my new environment pretty quickly. Eventually, without having revisited my homeland for well over a decade, I didn't think too much about it. However, like an anxious tick, something was making me uneasy. The more years went by, I felt like something was missing in my life. I dreamed of moving somewhere with beautiful nature, castles, but with modern city life. It seemed like an impossible combination until the time came to visit my home country. Subconsciously, I built up my dream place to be my home country. It was everything I could hope for. Over the next several years, I visited Lithuania and discovered and rediscovered all the things my soul needed. This film is dedicated to all those who may be somewhere abroad and miss their home. The footage is from my last trip to Lithuania in the summer of 2019 and inspired by that anxious tick to be close to home and to live life to the fullest before our time's up.

Lithuania covers an area of 65,300 km2 (25,200 sq mi), with a population of 2.8 million. Its capital and largest city is Vilnius; other major cities are Kaunas and Klaipėda. Lithuanians belong to the ethno-linguistic group of the Balts and speak Lithuanian, one of only a few living Baltic languages.

I have always been attracted to the Baltic countries as a travel destination. When it comes to people talking about traveling in Europe, the Baltic countries are often forgotten and left out from most conversations due to the lack of large tourism industries you would come to expect in cities like Paris and Amsterdam, and that is the exact reason why I decided to go there in 2018.
From its fairy-tale-like forests to medieval castles, to all its charming cities, the Baltic Countries gave me the opportunity to experience the forgotten part of Europe, a part that had been through so much, being lodged in between great powers, subjugated and fought for their independence, and yet they were able to preserve so much of their identities.
I spent more than a week traveling around Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia, and visiting all kinds of places from Vilnius to Tallinn stopping by many tourist attractions along the way. It's hard to capture the emotions I have with these wonderful places and so I decided to compile all the favorite moments I had during my trip in the Baltic countries into 3-minute travel video you see here.
The Baltic Way, a combination of great experiences, stunning sceneries, and a fun upbeat music, combined into a travel video that I hope do the Baltic countries justice. I hope you enjoy this video as much as I do making them!

VISIT KAUNAS IN 5 MINUTES ( In the Heart of Lithuania )
In the heart of Lithuania, Kaunas is a city that might seem compact at first, but once you start discovering it, you'll realize that history is still truly alive here. Start your trip by walking through its main artery, Laisvės Alėja, while you admire its beautiful architecture, and make sure you get familiar with the delicious Lithuanian dishes and the ancient bath traditions in a city that was once the admired place of Adam Mickiewicz, too.
Lithuania’s second city, Kaunas, represents the very heart of ethnic Lithuanian identity. Less than two hours from Vilnius, it can be enjoyed as a day trip, though visitors may want to stay longer. There is no shortage of places to stay. It was relatively unscathed by World War II, and large parts of the Old City remain untouched.
During its two decades as Lithuania’s interim capital, it developed from a hugely important Russian garrison town to a European city, and many of the Functionalist buildings from that period remain. It is the major commercial center of the country, manufacturing textiles and food products, and if Vilnius now provides the country with intellectuals, Kaunas provides it with traders and businessmen.
Kaunas and Vilnius are connected by the River Neris. The point where it joins Lithuania’s major river, the Nemunas, was chosen for the siting of the original castle from where the town grew. The Nemunas, once Lithuania’s southern border, were on the German traders’ route, and Kaunas became a Hansa town.

There are about 6,000 lakes in Lithuania, covering 950 km², or 1.5% of the territory of Lithuania. The lakes are not evenly distributed; most are situated in the Baltic Highlands, which begin near the border with Poland on the southeast and extend northward along the border with Belarus to Latvia.
About 1,200 are supported only by groundwater and neither receive nor distribute any surface water. However, many of the other lakes are interconnected by complex passages and rivulets. These lake systems are major tourist attractions in Aukštaitija National Park and are popular with kayakers. The lakes in and near the Molėtai district municipality are a weekend destination for many residents of Vilnius, who have built summer houses and villas in the area.
The great majority of Lithuania's lakes formed after the Wisconsin glacier retreated. The oldest date from about 13,000 years before the present.
Trakai Island Castle (Lithuanian: Trakų salos pilis) is an island castle located in Trakai, Lithuania, on an island in Lake Galvė. The construction of the stone castle was begun in the 14th century by Kęstutis, and around 1409 major works were completed by his son Vytautas the Great, who died in this castle in 1430. Trakai was one of the main centers of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania and the castle held great strategic importance. The castle was rebuilt in the 1950s–1960s by Lithuanian initiative, although it had received resistance from Soviet authorities. The Trakai History Museum was established after the reconstruction
Trakai Island Castle lost its military importance soon after the Battle of Grunwald, when the chief enemy of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania was defeated by the Lithuanian-Polish army. The castle was transformed into a residence and newly decorated from the inside. New frescos were painted on its walls, which have been partially preserved. Foreign emissaries were welcomed in the Ducal Palace. It is known that Jogaila visited the castle thirteen times between 1413 and 1430. In 1414, the Flemish traveler Guillebert de Lannoy described the castle in these words:
The old castle stands on one side of the lake, in open ground, the another one stands in the middle of a second lake, and is within a cannon shot of the old one. It is completely new, built from bricks following French pattern.
Grand Duke Vytautas the Great died in the castle without being crowned as King of Lithuania in 1430. During the rule of Sigismund Augustus, the castle was redecorated in a Renaissance style, and it served as the royal summer residence for a short period of time. Lithuanian Metrica was kept in the castle until 1511. Later the castle served as a prison. During the wars with Muscovy in the 17th century, the castle was damaged and was not reconstructed again. It gradually fell into disrepair.

Lithuania (Lietuva) is a Baltic country in Northern Europe. It has a Baltic Sea coastline in the west and is surrounded by Latvia to the north, Belarus to the east, Poland to the southwest, and Russia's exclave, the Kaliningrad Oblast, to the west.
Lithuania is the only Baltic country with more than eight hundred years of statehood tradition and its name was first mentioned one thousand years ago, in 1009. Wedged at the dividing line of Western and Eastern civilizations, Lithuania battled dramatically for its independence and survival. Once in the Middle Ages (15th century), Lithuania was the largest state in the entire continent of Europe, where crafts and overseas trade prospered.
In 1579, Vilnius University, an important scientific and education center of the European scale, was opened. In the 16th century, Lithuania adopted its First, Second and Third Statutes. The Statutes were not only the backbone of the legislative system, they also had a major impact on the legislation of other European states of the time. Despite losing its independence, Lithuania managed to retain its Third Statute in force for as many as 250 years, which was instrumental in the preservation of national and civic self-awareness. The Constitution of Poland-Lithuania together with the French Constitution, both adopted in 1791, were the first constitutions in Europe (The Polish-Lithuanian constitution was adopted a few months earlier than the French).
