Peterhof Palace in Russia

Peterhof was the summer residence of Russian monarchs, located 30 km from Saint Petersburg. The main building is the Baroque Grand Palace, smaller palaces Monplaisir and Marly, Hermitage pavilion, Orangery and others. However, Peterhof is most famous for its magnificent fountains.

Peterhof Park, Sankt Petersburg walking tour 4k 60fps

One of St. Petersburg's most famous and popular visitor attractions, the palace and park at Peterhof (also known as Petrodvorets) are often referred to as the Russian Versailles, although many visitors conclude that the comparison does a disservice to the grandeur and scope of this majestic estate.

Versailles was, however, the inspiration for Peter the Great's desire to build an imperial palace in the suburbs of his new city and, after an aborted attempt at Strelna, Peterhof - which means Peter's Court in German - became the site for the Tsar's Monplaisir Palace, and then of the original Grand Palace. The estate was equally popular with Peter's daughter, Empress Elizabeth, who ordered the expansion of the Grand Palace and greatly extended the park and the famous system of fountains, including the truly spectacular Grand Cascade.

PETERHOF PALACE - TSAR'S RESIDENCE /// ST PETERSBURG, RUSSIA

Welcome to Saint Petersburg! With this travel video about the Peterhof Palace we start our new mini-series about palaces and parks of St Petersburg. We hope you enjoy it!

Often called The Russian Versailles, Peterhof is a former tsar's residence founded by Peter the Great in the 18th century. Recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Peterhof State Museum Reserve amazes visitors with beautiful architecture, rich palace interiors, marvellous fountains and picturesque gardens. In our Russia travel video, we show you around this famous landmark and share interesting facts to inspire your next visit.

Arguably, the most interesting thing to see in Peterhof is the Grand Peterhof Cascade and other fountains around the park. These fountains are true masterpieces built by geniuses of their time. The Peterhof Palace fountains operate with no pumps which makes them a truly unique system (especially for the 18th century!).

Peterhof Palace is a must-visit place in Saint Petersburg. Located outside of the city, it is a full-day adventure for solo travellers, couples or families. You can get here by car, bus, train or by boat. There are several types of tickets to choose from: park only entry or with the Peterhof Palace Tour. For your first visit, we recommend to take a guided tour to admire the interior of the tsar's residence. We also recommend getting to Peterhof early, especially in Summer as it gets quite busy around lunchtime. For more info about ticket prices and working hours, watch our video and check out the info on their website:

Peterhof Palace

The Peterhof Palace is a series of palaces and gardens located in Peterhof, 35 km from Saint Petersburg, laid out on the orders of Peter the Great. These palaces and gardens are sometimes referred as the Russian Versailles. The palace-ensemble along with the city center is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The largest of Peterhof's palaces looks truly imposing when seen from the Lower or Upper Gardens, but in fact it is quite narrow and not overly large. Of its approximately thirty rooms, several deserve mention.
The Grand Palace is not the only historic royal building in Peterhof. The palaces of Monplaisir and Marly, as well as the pavilion known as the 'Hermitage', were all raised during the initial construction of Peterhof during the reign of Peter the Great. The Lower Gardens also contain a large greenhouse, and in the Alexandrine Park stands the palace of Nicholas I.

Like the Lower Gardens, the Upper Gardens contain many fountains, distributed among seven broad pools. The landscaping, though, is entirely different; unlike the Lower Gardens (which are strictly geometric), the Upper Gardens are not. A few of the fountains have curious sculptures.

Hermitage Museum walking tour 4k 60fps - Saint Petersburg, Russia

St. Petersburg's most popular visitor attraction, and one of the world's largest and most prestigious museums, the Hermitage is a must-see for all first-time travellers to the city. With over 3 million items in its collection, it also definitely rewards repeat visits, and new-comers can only hope to get a brief taste of the riches on offer here, from Impressionist masterpieces to fascinating Oriental treasures. One estimate has it that you would need eleven years to view each exhibit on display for just one minute, so many visitors prefer to organize a guided tour to ensure they have time to catch all the collection's highlights. Art aficionados, however, may find it more rewarding to seek out for themselves the works that they are particularly interested in.

Peterhof (Petrodvorets)

Improvements to the park continued throughout the 18th and 19th centuries. Catherine the Great, after leaving her own mark on the park, moved the court to Pushkin, but Peterhof once again became the official Imperial Residence in the reign of Nicholas I, who ordered the building of the modest Cottage Palace in 1826.

Like almost all St. Petersburg's suburban estates, Peterhof was ravaged by German troops during the Second World War. It was, however, one of the first to be resurrected and, thanks to the work of military engineers as well as over 1,000 volunteers, the Lower Park opened to the public in 1945 and the facades of the Grand Palace were restored in 1952. The name was also de-Germanicized in 1944, becoming Petrodvorets, the name under which the surrounding town is still known. The palace and park are once again known as Peterhof.

I've taken the train, taken the subway, and strolled down St. Petersburg when the autumn sun is bright and beautiful. The weather was so nice that I was very happy while walking. I loved the unfamiliar street when I first arrived. People seemed happy. The lights, trees and shadows were so beautiful. People were nice.
Before traveling, make sure to search for tourist places, book a hotel, and book an airline ticket.

It was a surprise to find the part of the historical architecture of St. Petersburg. Because it linked modernity with tradition. Beautiful buildings that respect the Russian architecture, painted in beautiful and gilded colors, unique shapes in the world, and wonderful balconies. And memorials everywhere. And large streets and gardens full of plants, flowers, beautiful trees, lakes and rivers, there are squares and beautiful fountains. But first of all, the fall weather is so wonderful and beautiful. If you know other Russian cities or even other European and Asian cities, you will be positively surprised by the organization and development of St. Petersburg, its cleanliness, security and diversity.

Our magic LUTs and presets for color grading:

In mid-January, Peter finally fell asleep with snow, and we were able to show the most beautiful Northern city in the world, wrapped in snow, from the air, in ultra-high resolution 6K. For filming, we used a new Ambassador camera Zenmuse X7 together with a new line of lenses DL, which a month ago we sent DJI for our further creativity. Since youtube does not support 6K resolution, we have increased the image to 8K, in order to unlock the full potential of the image.
