How A Small Irish Town Built The World's First Commercial Monorail

Monorail. MONORAIL. The word feels almost synonymous with futuristic metropolitan travel. So the small Irish market town of Listowel, which is neither futuristic, nor a metropolis, seems like an unlikely birthplace for such a modern mode of transport. And yet...

PODCAST: Die Lartigue Monorail - Europas erste Einschienenbahn

Searching for America's First Monorail

What was America's first monorail? It might seem like such a simple question would have an equally simple answer, but trying to find America's first daily operating monorail depends on how you define not only daily operating but surprisingly enough, how you define monorail.

Searching for the 1888 South St Paul Monorail

In 1888 the new town of South Saint Paul unveiled an electric suspended monorail train connecting the bluff tops with the Mississippi River valley. Developers Charles Clark and John Bryant hoped the train would catch on, but failed to get the permits needed to extend it. After a few demonstration runs, the track and train were abandoned and eventually demolished. In this video I set out to see if there are any remnants of the old monorail left behind.
