HISTORIC: American Airlines (Envoy Air) Inaugural Landing – Dominica – Douglas Charles Airport Ep.1

An onboard view of the inaugural arrival into the Dominica Douglas Charles Airport from Miami on Wednesday, December 8. Wednesday, December 8, 2021, marked the first international non-stop flight from the United States of America to Dominica. Flight AA3579 left Miami at 11:02am and arrived at the Douglas Charles Airport approximately 2 hours and 46 minutes later at 2:48pm. Onboard were various American Airlines and Envoy Air officials as well as the Minister of Tourism Honourable Dennis Charles and many happy Dominicans who were excited to be on the first nonstop flight to Dominica.

U.S Air Force || Boeing C-17 Globemaster III | Dominica Douglas Charles Airport

Was never expecting this beauty to show up. Seen here in this video, we were surprised with a visit from the USAF in their Boeing C-17 Globemaster III. Such an amazing beast.
I was not at the airport that day & therefore the footage seen in this video does not belong to DOMINICA AVIATION but to fellow Dominican aviators at the airport.

Back in January of 2013, @EnvoyAirCareers @ATRbroadcast 72-212s operated in the Northern and Eastern Caribbean. These aircraft were a common sight till they stopped operating the ATR back in 2014.

✈ RARE | Runway 27 Landing - Envoy Air - E175 - Dominica Douglas Charles Airport

In this second episode of SEA Arrivals, we see Envoy Air operating for American Eagle approaching and landing at the Dominica Douglas Charles Airport from the sea (Runway 27). On this particular day, the weather was very bad, with low visibility and heavy rains. The flight was unable to land and had to hold for a couple of minutes before a successful landing attempt. This particular landing is quite uncommon and only occurs when the Visual Runway 09 (The more common Mountain Approach) is unavailable due to low cloud ceilings and low visibility.

In _Part II_ of *The American Airlines - THE PILOT's PERSPECTIVE Series,* we see a low approach through the valley into the Douglas Charles Airport. _The Runway 09 approach is both a unique and quite challenging approach._ Both Visitors and Crew on arrival are greeted with lush green rainforest, the tall Morne Diablotin, and the coastline of the Northeast. Truly a gem and one-of-a-kind. (But...) that doesn't come without a challenge. Due to Dominica's natural landscape and topography, the island is littered with rising terrain, hills, and mountains. These, coupled with rapidly changing weather patterns can often make the approach improbable, and sometimes impossible. Here, we see a unique perspective of what the American Eagle (Envoy Air) pilots see when they fly into Dominica.

From the window - Seen here is American Eagle on final approach into the Douglas Charles Airport on a Sunday afternoon. Flight (AA9630), was a replacement flight for Saturday, Jan 8 canceled (AA3579). Was good to see that there was a replacement flight already in place for the stranded inbound/outbound passengers. The landing was a bit hard as you can see, but nonetheless, a good one. Enjoy!
