Landing at the MOST DANGEROUS AIRPORT in the WORLD! Traveling to BHUTAN

The World's Most Dangerous Approach - Paro, Bhutan

Join me on a flight with Bhutan Airlines (Tashi Air) A319 from Kathmandu to Paro, Bhutan. Paro Airport is situated in between mountains and valleys at 7,332 ft above sea level. The approach is well considered as one of the most dangerous and most spectacular in the world. Check out the amazing landing footage.

In addition, the flight also flew across many top 10 mountains in the world include Mt Everest.

-------

Join us for a spectacular and thrilling, up close, documentary look at the world’s most dangerous airport landing at Paro airport in Bhutan. Make sure you watch all the way to the end of the video to catch the sped up, bird’s eye view of the fabulous and graceful twisting and turning of the aeroplane on its approach to the landing strip of Paro airport, the sole international airport of Bhutan located six kilometres from Paro in a very deep valley on the bank of the river Paro Chhu, and how the runway suddenly appears from nowhere. It takes a real aviation expert and a very steady hand to make a safe landing at Paro airport!

In this video, we fly from Kathmandu airport in Nepal to Paro airport in Bhutan using Bhutan airlines. After a brief look inside Kathmandu airport’s executive airport lounge, we board our flight and meet the chief pilot of Bhutan airlines – we’re in safe hands; only a handful of trained captains are qualified and certified to land at Paro airport and it takes a minimum of eight to ten years of intensive training to become a captain.

We examine the runway at Kathmandu airport which is very bumpy and, interestingly, has no taxiways to the main runway, necessitating the use of some tricky manoeuvres and, needless to say, keen attention paid to air traffic control.

The flight is only forty minutes long but the flight is still packed with events and sights. In the video, we see most of the top ten highest mountains in the world within the Himalayas including Mount Makalu, Mount Lhotse and the tallest of all, Mount Everest. We also see the mountains of Bhutan within the Himalayan mountain range including Jomolhari and Jitchu Drake. The pictures of the snow capped mountains of the Himalayas are breath taking and we hear the captain’s opinions of why he thinks there is less snow now than there was in previous years.

We also enjoy lunch with champagne on board and we enjoy sharing a specially made cake with the Bhutan airlines crew to celebrate our travelling with them to the legendary Paro airport of Bhutan.

Paro airport is surrounded by mountains as high as 5500 metres and only has a single runway of length 1964 metres. Its single terminal was constructed in 1999 and it is a hub for two airlines: Bhutan airlines and Druk Air. Paro airport is such a difficult airport to land in that it can only be used in visual meteorological conditions and operational hours are restricted to daylight hours between sunrise and sunset.

You really won’t want to miss this video focusing on the world’s most challenging airport to land at. Let us know in the comments what you thought of the scenery and the whole experience and, as always, thanks for watching!

Landing at the MOST DANGEROUS AIRPORT in the WORLD! Traveling to BHUTAN

???? MyBhutan:
???????? Visit Bhutan:
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH:

In early March of 2020, I set out on an adventure I’d been dreaming of my entire life: a 10-day trip through Bhutan, my 77th country. I was so grateful that MyBhutan gave me the opportunity to experience their beautiful country. Come along with me as I make my way from Miami to the most dangerous airport in the world in Paro, Bhutan!

My journey began at my second home, Miami International Airport in my hometown of Miami. The only way to get to Bhutan is to catch a connecting flight on either Bhutan Airways or Drukair from Asian cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Dubai, Kathmandu, Singapore, and a few others.

Bhutan’s only international airport, Paro Airport, is located 18,000 feet above sea level and can only be reached by a select number of pilots, and only during the daylight hours.

After a 13-hour flight, I landed at Qatar’s Hamad International Airport for my layover. This airport is like my third home, as I’d traveled there five times in the past two years. It’s the best way to get to Asia. I headed to the business class lounge, which offers food, a sleeping area, and a shower. I freshen up with a shower there every time I pass through!

From Qatar, I had a 4.5-hour flight to Kolkata, India. There, I’d have a 6.5-hour connection before another 1.5 hour flight to Bhutan. I couldn’t wait to have some southern Indian food in Kolkata! But before I boarded my flight, I put on my mask to protect against the coronavirus, which was starting to make its way around the globe.

Once I arrived in Kolkata, I saw that everyone was wearing masks. They had special signs in the airport advising anyone who had recently traveled to China, particularly Wuhan City, to report to the airport health unit if they had coronavirus-like symptoms. They also had another procedure where you have to go through a machine that detects heat, and I had to fill out more papers to give to Immigration in order to connect and check into my new flight.

It was 3 a.m., so I headed to Tea Junction in the airport to get some frothy and milky ginger chai. It was boiling hot but so good! It only cost me 140 rupees/$1.83 USD for a large. After finishing, I went to find some southern Indian food. I was hoping my favorite place was open!

There are three places where you can eat: Wow! Momo, idli.com, and Biryani Bhai. Idli.com didn’t have any dosas because it was so early, so I got some idli with sambar, mint chutney, and coconut chutney instead.

The idli is a little bland by itself, but it’s amazing when you dip it in different chutneys and sambar and let them soak into the idli. I loved mixing the idli with the two chutneys. They were good enough to eat like a soup! I also got a strong filtered Karnataka coffee. In total, it cost me 300 rupees/$3.93 USD.

I headed to Gate 8. I was the only one there. There would already be passengers on my flight because it was coming from Bangkok. After 27 hours of traveling, I was finally on my final flight. I got on and had an entire row to myself. I was excited because I’d get to see Mount Everest from my window about 40 minutes into the flight. I had never seen it before!

They served some apple juice, a veg sandwich, ginger snaps, and sweet bread onboard. The sandwich contained a corn salad and the sweet bread contained raisins. I could see Mount Everest covered in snow in the distance, and after a 45-minute flight, we began our descent through the clouds and mountain valleys.

What an epic journey! It took 30 hours to get there, but it was so worth it!

Scary Plane Landing at Paro International Airport, Bhutan

Some say that Paro International Airport in a deep valley by the river Paro Chhu is among the most dangerous airports in the world. With surrounding peaks as high as 5,500 metres (18,000 ft), Paro International Airport is definitely one of the world's #most challenging airports. Our landing at this Bhutanese airport does appear scary. Watch the video and decide for yourself whether this is indeed a dangerous airport to land. Our flight from Bangkok is with Druk Air, also known as Royal Bhutan Airlines aboard an Airbus A319-100 with specially trained and certified pilots at the control.

Flying Over the Roof of the World: Paro Airport's Nail-Biting Arrival

Paro International Airport, located in Bhutan, is renowned for its challenging approach and landing due to its unique topography surrounded by mountains. The approach to runway 15 involves a visually stunning and demanding maneuver to navigate through the Himalayan valleys. Here's a description of the landing procedure for runway 15 at Paro Airport:

1. Approach Phase: As the aircraft approaches Paro Airport, it follows a series of turns to align with the valley that leads to runway 15. The approach path takes the aircraft over picturesque landscapes and mountain peaks.

2. Visual Navigation: Since Paro Airport does not have Instrument Landing System (ILS) due to the terrain, the landing is performed visually. Pilots must rely on their training and experience to ensure a safe descent.

3. Navigating the Valley: The aircraft maneuvers through the narrow valley, surrounded by high peaks on both sides. The valley requires precise navigation to maintain the correct flight path and altitude.

4. Constant Descent: The approach to runway 15 is characterized by a continuous descent with limited go-around options. Pilots must carefully manage the aircraft's descent rate to remain on the desired glide path.

5. Turn on Short Final: As the aircraft nears the runway threshold, a sharp turn to the left after crossing “ Mr. Smith’s House ” is made to align with the runway. This challenging manoeuvre involves flying very close to the terrain while maintaining constant descent and turn to fly over the threshold.

6. Touchdown: After the turn, the aircraft aligns with runway 15 for touchdown. Due to the relatively short runway length, pilots must aim for precise touchdown points to ensure a safe landing.

7. Runway Considerations: Runway 15 at Paro Airport is 7431 feet (2265 meters) in length, which is relatively short for commercial aircraft operations. Therefore, precise control of airspeed and touchdown point is crucial.

8. Terrain Awareness: Throughout the approach and landing, pilots must maintain awareness of the surrounding terrain and quickly respond to any deviations to ensure safe clearance from obstacles.

9. Skilled Piloting: Due to the challenging nature of the approach, landing at Paro Airport requires pilots with specific training and experience. Only qualified and specially certified pilots are allowed to operate into and out of Paro Airport.

The landing at Paro Airport's runway 15 is not only a remarkable feat of aviation skill but also an awe-inspiring experience for passengers and crew alike, offering breathtaking views of the Himalayan mountain ranges.

Landing at the World's Most Dangerous Tenzing-Hillary Lukla Airport (2800m) - Day 4.4

The Summmit Air airplane took off from Ramechhap Airport (493m), navigating for around 20 minutes through the valleys and mountains to land (4:07) in Lukla (2800m). The pilot (5:12) was kind enough to open the side curtain (1:22), sensing that I am trying to record the cockpit view of the landing.

Tenzing-Hillary Airport (IATA: LUA, ICAO: VNLK), also known as simply Lukla Airport, is a domestic airport and altiport in the town of Lukla, in Khumbu Pasanglhamu, Solukhumbu District, Province No. 1 of Nepal ( It gained worldwide fame as it was rated the most dangerous airport in the world for more than 20 years by a program titled Most Extreme Airports, broadcast on The History Channel in 2010. Tenzing–Hillary Airport is frequently referred to as the most dangerous airport in the world. Arriving and departing aircraft must use a single very short runway (06/24). There is a low prospect of a successful go-around on short final approach due to the terrain. There is high terrain immediately beyond the northern end of the runway and a steeply angled drop at the southern end of the runway into the valley below. Due to the difficulties of successfully landing at the airport, the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal sets high standards, according to which only experienced pilots, who have completed at least 100 short-takeoff-and-landing (STOL) missions, have over one year of STOL experience in Nepal, and have completed ten flights into Lukla with a certified instructor pilot, are allowed to land at the airport.

The model of the airplane is Let L-410 Turbolet, which is a twin-engine short-range transport aircraft, manufactured by the Czech aircraft manufacturer Let Kunovice (named Aircraft Industries since 2005), often used as an airliner. The aircraft is capable of landing on short and unpaved runways and operating under extreme conditions from −50 °C (−58 °F) to +50 °C (122 °F). By 2016, 1,200 L-410s had been built, and over 350 are in service in more than 50 countries (

Lukla Airport.. Landing & Takeoff October 14, 2022 | Most dangerous Airport in the world

Lukla Airport is one of the busiest airports in Nepal. This airport is situated at an altitude of 2,845 meters above sea level in the Khumbu region of Nepal. It serves as the gateway to the Everest region and is the starting point for treks to Mount Everest Base Camp. In this video, we can see the plane landing and takeoff at Lukla airport which is the world's most dangerous airport due to its location in the Himalayas and its short, sloping runway.

The airport's runway is quite short, measuring about 527 meters (1,729 feet) in length, and it has a significant slope, making it one of the most difficult runways in the world. The runway is built into the mountainside, and its steep incline helps planes slow down upon landing and gain speed during takeoff.

Lukla Airport primarily serves as a domestic airport, connecting Kathmandu (Tribhuvan International Airport) with Lukla. It is a crucial transportation link for trekkers and climbers heading to the Everest region.

Tenzing-Hillary airport is named after Sir Edmund Hillary of New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa of Nepal, who were the first climbers to reach the summit of Mount Everest in 1953.

Weather Challenges in Lukla Airport is prone to adverse weather conditions, including fog, high winds, and low visibility, which can lead to flight delays and cancellations. Due to these challenges, it's essential for travelers to be flexible with their plans when flying to or from Lukla.

The airport plays a significant role in the tourism industry of Nepal, as it provides access to the Khumbu region, which is a popular destination for trekkers, mountaineers, and adventure enthusiasts. Many treks in the Everest region start or end at Lukla.
