With most attractions clustered around the lake a perfect way to spend a day visiting Lake Bled is to walk around the lake, visit Bled Castle, eat local cake and have a leisurely lunch along with taking a boat trip out to the island. All of this can be done in a day allowing you to return to Ljubljana in the early evening.

Lake Bled Travel Guide | Day Trip from Ljubljana, Slovenia Video Transcript:
Lake Bled is probably the most popular day trip you can take from Ljubljana. This is a lake that sits on the Julian Alps, and in the middle of the lake you have a small island with a church - it’s about as picturesque as it gets and it draws massive crowds, but first, the journey there.
Bled Castle is a medieval castle that was built on a cliff rising 130 meters over Lake Bled. According to written sources, this is the oldest castle in Slovenia, first being mentioned in a document from the year 1011. The castle is set up around two courtyards which are connected with a staircase. Once you’re there, you can visit the chapel, check out some of the exhibits, watch a demonstration at the castle forge, or eat at the castle coffee shop or restaurant.
After the castle visit, we hiked back down and started our walk along Lake Bled because we were still feeling pretty stuffed from lunch. Little did we know this would take us several hours to complete.
After eating our slice of Bled Cream Cake, or Kremsnita, it was finally time to arrange a boat ride to Bled Island. While you can rent your own row boat to take out on the island, we chose to pay the 14 Euros per person to have someone else do the hard work. However, if you’re with a group of friends or travelling with family, it’s definitely cheaper to just rent a boat and row it yourself.
Bled Island is very small and it got pretty crowded even though it was low season. Forty minutes turned out to be plenty of time to climb up, have a look around, and enjoy some ice cream.
Now one last piece of advice: we visited in the off-season and at the end of the day, we found out there were not enough buses to transport everyone from Lake Bled back to Ljubljana.
We weren’t able to get on one bus because it was full, so we waited an hour and a half for the next one. By then, more day-trippers like us had gathered, and once again, not everyone could get on the bus, leaving a lot of people stranded, having to find a taxi or other alternative.
There was a lot of pushing and shoving, and many visitors with prepaid tickets were visibly upset.
Because our bus was full, this also meant that even though there were several scheduled stops on the way back to Ljubljana, we couldn’t pick up any passengers along the way, many of them who had been waiting for hours.
Lake Bled has experienced a boom in tourism, but the infrastructure to transport people hasn’t quite caught up yet. After a nice day visiting Bled, getting out of there proved to be very chaotic and stressful. Hopefully things will change in the future, but until then, know that leaving at the end can be tricky.

Lake Bled is one of Slovenia's most picturesque and popular travel destinations. It is located some 55 km north of Ljubljana, the capital city of Slovenia, not far from the border with Austria, at the foot of the Julian Alps. It is distinguished by a mild, healing climate and thermal springs of lake water. The lake is 2,120 m long and 1,380 m wide, it has a maximum depth of 30.6 m. Nearby is Triglav National Park and other mountains in the Julian Alps and Karavanke. Lake Bled is a photographer’s paradise and a wonderful destination for anyone that loves nature. One day in Lake Bled is just enough time to see all of Bled's top sights, try some local food and take up one of the many activities around the lake.

LJUBLJANA, SLOVENIA ???????? | LAKE BLED | Retirement Travel Guide | #93
Slovenia is one of our favorite countries we have ever visited during our retirement travel. Ljubljana, Slovenia checks all the boxes for a city with beauty, cost of living, safety, great summer weather, castles, bridges, other things to see and do, etc. We enjoyed the Farmer’s market, Open Kitchen, walking around the Old Town and enjoying the bridges, and riding the funicular up to Ljubljana Castle.
We also took a day trip to Lake Bled and it is simply one of the most beautiful places on earth. After hiking up to Bled Castle, we made the 4 mile trek around the lake. We stopped and rented a row boat out to the island and visited the historic church. There were so many picture opportunities, that we probably stopped more than we walked, but it is a day we will never forget.

I spent 7 days travelling round one of Europe's best kept secrets, the gorgeous country of Slovenia.
Starting in the picturesque capital of Ljubljana, I then made my way round to Lake Bohinj, where I took the cable car up to Mt Vogel.
I went white water rafting near Bled before swimming in the crystal clear waters of Lake Bled itself.
Then I travelled round to the Soča Valley and stayed in Bovec where I went canyoning, zip-lining and took the cable car up to Mt Kanin.

Starting off in Lake Bled, we swam in one of the most postcard looking lakes you’ve ever seen before heading off to sail in the Adriatic. This video will show you how to travel by train from Ljubljana main station to Lesce-Bled on the East shore of the fantastic Lake Bled. There is at least an hourly service using Slovenske železnice's local service with their Class 312 Siemens Desiro EMU's and a shuttle bus from the station. LAKE BLED, SLOVENIA (& Vintgar Gorge - Day trip from Ljubljana)
Thank you so much for watching!
In today’s video, we finally visit the famous Lake Bled! We stop at Vintgar Gorge first, which feels like stepping into a fairytale with the wooden walkways winding above the water.
In order to get to Lake Bled, we took a bus from Ljubljana. Once we arrived in Bled, we took a shuttle to the gorge. Our driver waited on us and he took us back to Bled. From there, we walked down to the lake and took one of the gondolas across the lake, which costs about 15 euro per person. It’s definitely not cheap, but it’s SO worth it! We had about 40 minutes on the island before we had to get back to the gondola. This is plenty of time since the island is so small, Christian was even able to jump in.
After the lake, we made our way to Bled Castle. The real draw of the castle is the views you get from the lookout points. That’s where we were able to see the island from its’ famous postcard angle.
We then headed back to our bus stop, where we caught the next bus back to Ljubljana. We did this easily as a day trip, and we 100% recommend it. However, if you’re able to stay overnight in Bled, that would be ideal!

Hello everyone and welcome back to my channel. I'm so happy to share this fun vlog of Masha and I traveling to Slovenia! We went on a day trip stopped in the beautiful capital city Ljubljana. This city is so charming and pretty, it really blew me away. We also visited the famous Lake Bled, which is absolutely breathtaking! Please do yourself a favour and add Slovenia to your next travel plans. We spent our final night in Zagreb, Croatia exploring the upper town and eating traditional Croatian food for dinner.
