Lake Atitlan in Guatemala is known for its amazing natural scenery, Alexander von Humboldt called it the most beautiful lake in the world. Lake Atitlan is 130 square km large and 340 meters deep, it is a volcanic lake with 3 volcanoes on one side, surrounded by mountains and towns where Maya culture is still alive.
In the video: scenes from main viewpoints around the lake, from the trail between Santa Cruz La Laguna and San Marcos La Laguna, from the towns of Panajachel, Solola, San Pedro La Laguna, Santiago Atitlan, San Juan La Laguna, from San Pedro volcano and the Indian Head.

Guatemala (2024) is a country in Central America. It has a population of roughly 18 million people and its capital is Guatemala City. Guatemala borders Mexico, Belize, El Salvador and Honduras. Green and mountainous with an ancient Native American culture, the Maya culture. Mayan temples and cities are still present everywhere in the country, but nothing resembles the Mayan greatness more than the archeological site of Tikal in the middle of the Jungle close to Flores. But there is so much more. One of the most impressive Spanish colonial cities of the Americas can be found in Guatemala. It is the city of Antigua. From the high mountains and Volcanos like to Pacaya to the lakes, the forests and the Caribbean Sea, Guatemala is the land of the Eternal Spring.

This Lake Atitlan Guatemala Drone video shows you some of the most beautiful places and views you can find on your Guatemala travel.
In Spanish, Lake Atitlan is called Lago de Atitlan, and it is the deepest lake in Central America. The lake has a maximum depth of about 340 metres. It is situated in the district of Sololá in the western highlands of Guatemala. The lake is 18 km wide and 10 km long. It lies at an altitude of 1,562 m. It is surrounded by the three volcanoes: Volcan Atitlán, Volcan Tolimán and Volcan San Pedro.
The lake is located about 50 kilometres from Antigua Guatemala, which is also a popular and beautiful travel destination in Guatemala. It easy to travel from Lake Atitlan to Antigua Guatemala.
The lake is surrounded by many villages and towns in which Maya culture is still prevalent. Traditional clothes are still worn by many Mayan people.
Lago de Atitlán is an endorheic lake, feeding into two rivers. The lake basin is volcanic in origin, filling an enormous caldera formed by an eruption 84,000 years ago.
The towns and villages around Lake Atitlan in Guatemala are: San Juan La Laguna, San Pedro La Laguna, San Marcos La Laguna, Panajachel, Jaibalito, Santa Cruz La Laguna, Tzununá, San Pablo La Laguna, Santiago Atitlán, Santa Catarina Palopó, San Lucas Tolimán and San Antonio Palopó. Each town is unique and you should visit them all if you have the chance. San Juan Guatemala and San Pedro Guatemala are neighbouring villages but completely different. We recommend you to visit San Juan Guatemala 2020 and also San Pedro Guatemala 2020.
