Isola Bella is one of the Borromean Islands of Lago Maggiore in north Italy. The island is situated in the Borromean Gulf 400 metres from the lakeside town of Stresa. Isola Bella is 320 metres long by 400 metres wide and is divided between the Palace, its Italianate garden, and a small fishing village.
In 1632, Carlo III Borromeo decided to have a palace built for his wife Isabella d’Adda and selected an empty little island opposite Stresa, where the Toce River flows into the Gulf of Verbano. Works stopped towards the middle of the 17th century due to the pestilence that developed in the dukedom of Milan, however they were later continued with renewed vigour by the sons of Carlo III, Cardinal Giberto III (1615-1672) and especially Vitaliano VI (1620-1690). The latter was responsible for appointing famous Roman architect Carlo Fontana to complete the works.

Isola Bella is one of the Borromean Islands, about 400 meters from the shores of Stresa, and can be reached in a few minutes from Verbania, Baveno, Stresa and Arona by boat. The island is a natural treasure made even richer by the construction of the palace and garden. It is one of the favorite visitor attractions of Lake Maggiore, not to be missed if you want unparalleled views of the lake and its surroundings. Isola Bella is dominated by its magnificent Baroque palace, along with a luxuriant Italian-style garden, which reaches a height of 37 meters and is laid out on ten terraces. Many parts of the palace are open to visitors: richly furnished rooms and opulent salons embellished with priceless artworks.
The garden is full of flowers and exotic plants of great rarity, which grow thanks to the particularly mild climate of the Borromean Gulf. Everything on the island has been designed to create a scenic effect, including the “Theatre” constructed at the end of the superimposed terraces, dominated by a statue of a Unicorn, the heraldic emblem of the Borromeos, which is flanked by statues representing Nature and Art. The huge, extraordinary garden is further decorated with ponds, fountains and a plethora of statues dating from the second half of the 17th century. The white peacocks that wander over the manicured lawns add their grace to this enchanting spot.
Adjacent to the palace and the gardens is part of the village which used to occupy the island, with some restaurants and souvenir shops.

The Borromeo palace is a seventeenth-century building located on Isola Bella, on Lake Maggiore, whose gardens extend to the southern tip of the islet. It still belongs to the Borromeo family. The building, characterized by a T-shaped plan, stands at the northern end of the island, dominated by the 80 linear m long facade, with the curvilinear projection of the hall of honor in the center, developed on two floors and covered by a domed roof. The chapel of the building, also on the ground floor, houses objects that belonged to San Carlo Borromeo and Cardinal Federico, as well as three sepulchral monuments of personalities of the family. On the first floor, around the central hall, there are decorated and furnished rooms, including the Napoleon room, where he stayed in 1797, the Throne room and the Music room, where the Stresa conference was held in 1935, between Benito Mussolini, Pierre Laval and Ramsay MacDonald.

Lago Maggiore es un lago prealpino de origen fluvioglacial que se extiende entre Suiza y Italia. Sus costas se comparten entre Suiza (Cantón Ticino)e Italia (provincias de Verbano-Cusio-Ossola y Novara,en Piamonte, y Varese, en Lombardía).
El lago Maggiore se encuentra a una altura de unos 193 metros. Su superficie es de 212 km2 la mayoría de los cuales, alrededor del 80%, en territorio italiano. Tiene un perímetro de 170 km y una longitud de 64,37 km (el más grande entre los lagos italianos); la anchura máxima es de 10 km y la anchura media es de 3,9 km. El volumen de agua contenida es de 37.500 millones de m3 con un tiempo de sustitución teórica de unos 4 años. El área de captación es de aproximadamente 6 598 km2 de los cuales 3 229 están en Italia y 3 369 en Suiza. La altitud máxima de la zona de captación es Punta Dufour en el macizo del Monte Rosa (4 633 m por encima.m del nivel del mar), mientras que la media es de 1 270 m .m. La cuenca se caracteriza por la existencia de unos treinta embalses artificiales con una colección de unos 600 millones de m3 de agua que, si se libera al mismo tiempo, elevaría el nivel del lago en unos 2,5 m. Just realized that this place is really similar to the one we visited last week, the difference is that this garden is on an island in the Lake Maggiore and this video was shot in september 2021!
How time flies, this was the first day of use of my smartphone gimbal and also I was way more inexperienced compared to nowadays.
