Flower of Scotland (Flùir na h-Alba en gaélique) est l'hymne national officieux de l'Écosse, au même titre que le plus ancien Scotland the Brave. Cette chanson a été composée par Roy Williamson du groupe folklorique The Corries en 1974
Ce chant patriotique célèbre à la fois la beauté des paysages de l'Écosse et la victoire des patriotes écossais contre l'invasion anglaise à la fin du XIIe siècle et au début du XIIIe siècle, au cours de la première guerre d'indépendance de l'Écosse. Menés par Robert the Bruce, les Écossais renvoyèrent chez elle « l'armée du fier Édouard » (proud Edward's army), Édouard II d'Angleterre lors de la bataille de Bannockburn qu'ils remportèrent en 1314, et qui déboucha sur près de quatre siècles d'indépendance.
L'expression « Fleur d'Écosse » fait, d'après certains, référence au chardon, l'un des symboles nationaux de l'Écosse, qui orne par exemple les maillots des joueurs de rugby écossais. D'autres estiment que cette expression fait référence à la fine fleur de l'Écosse, c'est-à-dire les meilleurs, les plus braves parmi les Écossais ; ceux qui ont combattu et sont morts, et ont résisté contre le roi Édouard, étant alors désignés par cette expression.
Le chardon aux ânes est l'un des symboles nationaux de l'Écosse depuis le règne d'Alexandre III (1249-1286) ; il fut utilisé dès 1470 sur des pièces d'argent frappées sous Jacques III57. La légende veut qu'une armée ennemie ait autrefois tenté d'attaquer les Écossais de nuit. L'un des soldats étrangers, probablement pieds-nus, aurait marché sur un chardon ; son cri aurait éveillé les sentinelles écossaises, qui auraient alors sonné l'alerte.58
Le drapeau de l'Écosse arbore un sautoir blanc, une crux decussata représentant la croix du martyr chrétien l'apôtre saint André, patron de l'Écosse sur un fond bleu. Il est souvent connu sous le nom de Croix de saint André ou The Saltire (sautoir en anglais). En langage héraldique il est blasonné d'azur, au sautoir d'argent. C'est l'un des plus anciens drapeaux au monde, et le plus ancien drapeau national encore en usage

Dunfermline in Scotland is a former royal burgh located in the Kingdom of Fife. It is well known for its fascinating history, king Malcolm 3rd of Scots and Queen Margaret. But is also well known for successful businessman Andrew Carnegie, or as a Robert de Bruce and William Shaw burial place.
The Dunfermline Abbey Church & Palace is one of the most well-known churches within the kingdom of Fife and has a rich history awaiting you to explore. I was blown away by 900 years of history of this place! The Abbey Church is the centrepiece of Dunfermline, one of the oldest settlements in Scotland and once its proud capital. The history of The Abbey is bonded with that of Scotland itself, as Dunfermline was the burial site of the Scottish monarchs before the adoption of the island of Iona, and you will see many reminders and relics there of great Scottish rulers of the past.
In the 14th century, Robert the Bruce repaired the Abbey following its destruction by Edward I during the Scottish Wars of Independence, adding the vast monk's refectory. King Robert the Bruce is buried here, and the church's tower bears the words `King Robert the Bruce` in carved stone around the top and inside, beneath the pulpit, is Bruce`s tomb.
In 1560, it was transformed into a royal palace by Queen Anna of Denmark, wife of James VI.
Today Dunfermline Abbey and Palace are managed by Historic Scotland and are open to the public. Admission is free and donations are appreciated.
Malcolm Canmore's Tower ruins are easily accessible. Malcolm’s Tower was a large 14th-century tower, with walls as much as 10 -foot thick, of which only the base remains, although there may have been a stronghold here from the 11th century. The castle gets its name from Malcolm Canmore, king of Scots.
One tale is that the tower was where Malcolm Canmore and Margaret, later made a saint, were married in 1068

Urquhart Castle and Loch Ness
The ruins of Urquhart Castle date from the 13th century, though it was built on the site of an earlier medieval fortification. The Castle played a role in the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century. It was subsequently held as a royal castle then was granted to the Clan Grant in 1509, the castle was partially destroyed in 1692 to prevent its use by Jacobite forces. In the 20th century it was placed in state care and opened to the public, it is now one of the most-visited castles in Scotland.
Loch Ness is a freshwater loch in the Scottish Highlands extending for approximately 23 miles southwest of Inverness. Loch Ness is best known for alleged sightings of the Loch Ness Monster.
Loch Ness is the second largest Scottish loch by surface area after Loch Lomond, but due to its great depth, it is the largest by volume. It contains more fresh water than all the lakes in England and Wales combined.
The Retro Lab's Scottish Adventure was a two thousand mile road trip around Scotland in which we continued our mission to find Britain's (and maybe even the world's) best driving roads, also visiting many castles and other points-of-interest along the way, but it didn't go quite how we had planned....

In this video, we will talk a bit about the wee history of this lovely city and then join a pride march led by Alan Cumming and many lovely people of this city
Perth, Once Scotland's proud capital. Located on the right bank of the river Tay. The city begins as a roman fort of bertha. However Name of the city - Perth comes from a Pictish word.. In 1210 Perth was severely damaged by floods. However, the town recovered and King William the Lion made it a royal burgh. Perth was also one of the birthplaces of the Scottish Reformation.
It was tradition for the monarchs of Scotland to be crowned in Perth for hundreds of years. Even today, it is tradition for monarchs to be coronated on the Stone of Scoon, with that last happening during Queen Elizabeth II’s coronation in 1953. Perth served important roles in the Scottish Wars of Independence and the Jacobite Risings. Its history and position in Scotland are more than notable.
