We only had one day to explore Luxor, Egypt, so even though we barely slept on the overnight train from Cairo, we went out at 7:00 A.M. to be the first and only tourists at the incredible Luxor Temple! It was totally worth it because it wasn't too hot yet and we took all the videos and photos we wanted with NO other people! Once the first tour bus arrived, we headed back to our hotel and had breakfast (AND COFFEE), but then decided to nap for few hours to wait out the mid day heat before heading to the Valley of the Kings via a $0.10 ferry and $7 taxi. Once again, we felt like there should have been way more tourists than there was, but we weren't complaining!

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, we got married June 2013 and quickly caught the travel bug! LUXOR, EGYPT | 10 INCREDIBLE Things To Do in Luxor
Luxor, Egypt is arguably the most historical place on earth in terms of civilization. Located along the Nile River in the south of Egypt, Luxor‘s history goes back thousands of years. It was once the capital of Egypt and a true hub of power and wealth. Today, you can find ancient temples and tombs of these intriguing dynasties along the West and East Bank.
The 10 best things to do in Luxor, Egypt:
10. Tombs of the nobles
Nestled in the Theban Hills of the West Bank, there are hundreds of tombs here that date back to as early as the 6th dynasty in 2300 BC. These tombs are filled with hieroglyphs showcasing scenes of the peoples daily life in ancient times.
9. Felucca ride
Taking a Felucca ride at sunset is another great thing to do in Luxor. Feluccas are traditional wooden sailing boats which are built to change direction quickly depending on where the winds shift.
8. Luxor Temple At Night
Visiting Luxor temple is another highlight and it’s most beautiful at night in our opinion. Located on the shores of the East Bank of Luxor, it is very well-preserved and a popular tourist attraction.
7. Valley of the kings
Tucked away in the glorious Thebes mountains, this historical site is located in a beautiful setting. The Valley boasts 63 magnificent royal tombs, each which has their own style and identity.
6. Explore local life by donkey
One thing we highly recommend doing in Luxor is exploring the local life in the villages that are scattered around the area. The Egyptian culture is rich and the people are very welcoming.
5. Mortuary temple Hatshepsut
Hatshepsut is one of the most awe-inspiring temples in Luxor. It’s absolutely massive and stands alone underneath a giant mountain. The temple was built in honour of the second woman to ever be in power as a Pharaoh in Egypt.
4. Bike the West Bank
Biking gives you the chance to stay away from the crowds and enjoy many attractions at your own pace. It is also relaxing to pedal next to the palm trees and sugar cane fields. You can easily explore 2-3 temples and tombs we mentioned before in one day.
3. Explore Karnak
The 3rd best thing to do in Luxor is to explore the world-famous Karnak. This complex is more than a temple and is actually a mix of sanctuaries, pylons, and obelisks.
2. Habu Temple
Habu Temple was our favorite ancient site in all of Luxor. The intricacy of designs within the walls took our breath away since the walls still maintain most of their original colors. The colors give an inside look into what all temples must have looked like.

The best thing to do in Luxor is taking a hot air balloon ride. Seeing the temples, tombs, and fields from above at sunrise is something you truly can’t miss. We booked our hot air balloon tour with Hod Hod Soliman and highly recommend them. They were professional, took safety very seriously, and passionately told the history of Luxor during the flight.

As covid cases started to decline and countries started to open, we decided to go to Luxor, Egypt! We arrived in Luxor by taking the bus from Hurghada. Egypt never fail to amaze us again and again!
We can’t agree enough that Luxor is one of the world's greatest open-air museum, and in this episode we will show you why.
On the East bank of Luxor it lies beautiful Karnak Temples. It looked incredibly stunning basking in the late afternoon sun. We loved the walls and pillars full with hieroglyphs.
On the West bank, you will see a valley filled with thousands of tombs which is called as Valley of the Kings. We were speechless when we walked into the tombs. It is huge and the walls are full of colourful hieroglyphs and drawings. The experience is mind-blowing.

We were in Luxor for 2.5 days & had the second day dedicated for Luxor Temple & Valley of the Kings. After visiting the Pyramids in Giza, we were not expecting much from Luxor (because what you will like after seeing the oldest wonder of the world, right?) But, we were in for a surprise.
Words, Pictures or any Vlog can never show the magnanimity, grandeur & the larger than life feel of the places! You have to visit it to take in all of it.Waking up at 5:30 am and reaching there first with No Other Tourist was totally worth it!

Luxor is often called the world’s greatest open-air museum, but that comes nowhere near describing this extraordinary place. Nothing in the world compares to the scale and grandeur of the monuments that have survived from ancient Thebes.

Our next adventure takes us to Luxor to discover ancient Egypt. We've seen the imposing Mortuary Temple of Pharaoh Hatshepsut, visited the inside of a few pharaoh tombs in the Valley of Kings where they have a great number of hieroglyphs. We had a nice ride on the Nile in Luxor and managed to see the Nile Crocodile which is known to be the most aggressive of the crocodiles. In Luxor we also visited the Karnak Temple complex which is quite impressive.
Am vrut sa descoperim si partea antica a Egyptului, asa ca am decis sa mergem intr-o excursie la Valea Regilor. Am descoperit o alta parte a Egiptului: Luxor, Templul lui Hatshepsut, morminte ale vechilor faraoni, Templul din Karnak si am beneficiat de o frumoasa excursie cu vaporasul pe Nil. Conform relatarilor ghidului am avea de descoperit mult mai multe obiective antice deosebite in Egypt, asa ca o sa le lasam pe o data viitoare. Am fi dorit sa vizitam mult mai mult, dar din pacate timpul a fost cam limitat. Pentru ca drumul din Hurghada pana la Valea Regilor e destul de lung si obositor, eu si cu fetele am ramas la hotel, doar Catalin s-a bucurat pe deplin de aceasta experienta. Din punctul nostru de vedere e prea cald si obositor pentru copiii, mai ales in luna august, cand am fost noi. Inarmati-va cu multa apa si rabdare, fiind zona desertica e foarte cald si nu prea ai locuri unde sa te retragi la umbra, dar si asa experienta e una deosebita.

The valley of the kings is a valley in Egypt where, for a period of nearly 500 years from the 16th to 11th century BC, rock cut tombs were excavated for the pharaohs and powerful nobles of the New Kingdom (the Eighteenth to the Twentieth Dynasties of Ancient Egypt).
Luxor Temple is a large Ancient Egyptian temple complex located on the east bank of the Nile River in the city today known as Luxor (ancient Thebes) and was constructed approximately 1400 BCE. In the Egyptian language it is known as ipet resyt, the southern sanctuary. In Luxor there are several great temples on the east and west banks. Four of the major mortuary temples visited by early travelers include the Temple of Seti I at Gurnah, the Temple of Hatshepsut at Deir el Bahri, the Temple of Ramesses II (a.k.a. Ramesseum), and the Temple of Ramesses III at Medinet Habu; the two primary cults' temples on the east bank are known as the Karnak and Luxor.

Second day in Luxor and we continue exploring the best attractions in Luxor including Hatshepsut temple and seeing the top tombs in the Valley of the Kings, showing you which ones to choose so you can decide and visit them if you wish. I did also 3 extra tombs in the VOK that you must pay on top of the normal price for each one and the tombs are Ramesses V & VI (KV9), Seti I (KV17) and last but not least King Tut tomb (KV62).
After seeing this magnificent tombs i went to the Mortuary Temple of Hatshepsut, Temple of Ramessium, Tomb of Nobles and Colossi of Memnon.I divided the things i wanted to see on the West Bank in 2 days because it's a lot to fit them all in 1 day. With my itinerary and plan you can do the top attractions in Luxor in 3 days easily without rush and have time also to add extra attractions if you want
So stay tuned to see the part 2 of the West Bank that is my last day in Luxor, doing the rest of the attractions which is Valley of the Queens, Madinet Habu Temple and a Hot air balloon that was quite an amazing experience.

Explore Luxor, Egypt with me! We flew out in the early morning from Cairo to visit the breathtaking Karnak & Habu Temples and of course, we had to visit the tombs that the ancient Egyptians built to keep the mummified bodies of their Kings in the Valley of the Kings.
