LOCAL Saint Lucia Experience (Soufriere and Castries) I Vlog #42
We arrived in the beautiful island of Saint Lucia with Bernard (still feeling sick) in tow. We took a different approach for touring the Caribbean, instead of aiming for the idyllic beaches and luxury resorts in Castries and Gros Islet, we decided spend our short 3 days stay at an Airbnb in a small local seaport town of Soufriere.
Taking the off beaten path also has it consequences, as we soon learnt, small towns like these don't usually get many frequent foreign visitors, so naturally our presences attracts plenty of attention and interests from the locals, both good and bad. We were blessed to meet some very friendly folks that showed us the authentic experience of island life in St Lucia, and also some rather hostile locals that made themselves very clear they do not like our presences near them. It's rather unfortunate, but we made the best out of our experience during our stay there.
When we had a full day to explore the island, we decided to do a day trip to visit Castries, the capital city of the country; over climbing a Piton, which is mountainous volcano as Bernard was still not feeling a 100% yet.
It was definitely an eye opening experience, taking the local bus/van that only cost $3 one way, that took us through many mountainous paths and windy roads, and it was a glimpse of how many of the locals commute to the main city for work/school and home.
Our highlight in St Lucia was definitely the food, and the hospitality of our host and some of the restaurants that gave us this opportunity to experience this small part of their life and culture.

We started our trip back in April 2, 2019 from New York City. We quit our 9-6 jobs, sold all of our belongings, and began traveling full time. We left our jobs because we were unable to be with family and enjoy life. Work was taking up too much time and something had to change. We saved up for 2 years and began traveling as soon as we found a deal that would take us around the world for just $285.00. We started this #travelvlog to share our adventures with friends and family. At the one year mark, we realized that we had only scratched the surface and there was still so much to see. We Went To Castries On A Saturday Too See What It Was Like Take A Look And See
St. Lucia | Up and About in Soufriere
I would not call myself a foodie but I definitely love good food and I love to check out different restaurants for the food and the dining experience.
In Soufriere I visited Orlando's Restaurant & Bar and
The Mango tree Restaurant. I loved the food and the service at Orlando's Restaurant . Whilst the view, the drinks and food at Mango tree was good , I was getting attitude from the service personal cant quite say what my crime was :-)
Regardless I recommend Orlando's Restaurant for the food and the experience and Mango tree for sun downers & a bite.

Soufriere St Lucia was the capital of the island when the French controlled the island. Looming over Soufriere St Lucia are the The Pitons, a UNESCO world heritage listed site. Near Soufriere are some of St Lucia's finest beaches, Anse Chastanet and Sugar Beach.

I love the outdoors, and zip-lining at Rainforest Adventures in St. Lucia has got to be the best way to experience it. We started with an aerial tram and bird watching, a nature trail to the zip-line and then 11 zip-lines through the rainforest. Then finished by relaxing at the calabash cove hotel. What an amazing day!

Fun things to do in St Lucia #09 – charter a yacht and sail to Soufriere
Wow - work doesn't get much better than this! We chartered a Lagoon 40 catamara from Sunsail in Rodney Bay and headed south to Soufriere to see the Botanic Gardens, Fond Doux plantation and the bubbling volcano at Sulphur Springs Park (basically all the fun stuff from my previous posts)! Nothing beats seeing St Lucia from the sea with its lush forested peaks, idyllic bays and all the dive-bombing Brown Boobies and flying fish!
