Thailand Versus The Philippines for Travel or Retirement.

A lot of people often talk about what is the difference between Thailand and the Philippines.
These two are possibly the most popular tourist destinations in all of Asia.
There’s no surprise that people want to know which country is the best for them to visit on their next holiday or maybe even for retirement!
You may consider moving there permanently?
In this video, we compare the two countries for visiting and possibly retirement.
Check out the links in the description below for some fantastic information to help you on your travels.
Ok, we will compare the two countries on the criteria of, The People, The Language, The Food, Personal Safety, Visa’s and Ease of Staying, The Cost, and in the end, we will have the conclusion and which will be the best one.
So, let’s get started.
The People.
If my time is any indicator of how friendly and fun the Filipino people are then this is a huge win for The Philippines.
The people are about as fun and friendly as they could possibly be.
It seems Filipino culture is much more open and playful than the Thai culture.
Thai culture is very reserved once you get away from the Red-Light districts.
They are very polite and shy, which is nice, but not always a lot of fun.
Filipinos seem to have a much more western influenced personality and sense of humour, so you find Filipinas always playing around, cracking jokes, and in true Filipina style dancing and singing 23.5 hours out of the day.
This is something you just don’t get in Thailand and it’s probably my favourite thing so far about travelling in the Philippines.
In this part, this is a huge win for the Philippines.
The Language.
This is another major difference between Thailand versus the Philippines.
Depending on which source you read, the Philippines is either the 2nd or 3rd largest English-speaking country in the world!
They speak great English which makes it extremely easy to get around and ask important questions such as, what’s in this food?
How do I get there?
and, are any other bars still open?
When it comes to language, it really is the Philippines time to shine.
In Thailand, you will find a large majority of Thai's that speaks reasonable English inside the tourist zones such as, Sukhumvit, Patong, Khao San Road, etc.
However, you will still encounter lots of taxi drivers, food vendors and shop workers who do not speak English or don’t speak enough to understand what you are asking them.
Your hotel receptionist will probably speak just fine but, trying to explain how to get back to your hotel to your taxi driver late at night may be a problem.
Travellers Tip!
A great tip for this, by the way, is to take a couple of hotel business cards with you when you leave the hotel and keep one in your wallet and another in a separate pocket.
However, this is definitely another big win for the Philippines.
The Food.
When it comes to food, for me Thailand will come out swinging.
Thai food is internationally renowned and for pretty good reason.
It’s fantastic!
I love Thai food, especially Isaan food.
I also have enjoyed Filipino food, especially Adobo and Tapsilog, but I haven’t eaten enough of it to really put it to the test against Thai food, which I’ve eaten numerous times.
I’m sure there are so many different Filipino dishes, especially regional dishes, that I’ve never even seen, so it’s a bit difficult to pass judgment here.
I found the food in The Philippines a bit to Westernised “hamburgers and hotdogs”.
I will say though, that Thai food is amazing, and I can’t recommend it enough!
I’ve always felt that Western food in Thailand is below average though.
I don’t know exactly why that is, but it just isn’t very tasty and it’s expensive!
I’m giving Thailand the win for the food, but I definitely need to venture more into the Philippines region for real traditional food.
Safety.

Is Thailand Doomed? Retire in The Philippines.
As has been reported, Thailand is no longer a viable destination to retire for now.
In this video, we discuss, why Thailand may be DOOMED for expat retirees and why moving to The Philippines may be a better option!
If your new to the channel, or you are returning and enjoy the content, please SUBSCRIBE and don't forget to press the bell icon so you never miss out on upcoming videos and resources!
As you may already know, Thailand immigration have once again changed the rules regarding retirement visas in the Kingdom.
As an expat, foreign retirees must either, show a monthly income of at least 65,000 baht or hold a minimum of 800,000 baht in Thai banks.
You must maintain that amount for three months after a visa or extension is granted, after which they can only take out half.
Under the new rules, applicants for retirement visas must be 50 and up.
You must either show evidence of monthly salaries of at least 65,000 baht transferred to a Thai bank account or balances of at least 800,000 baht in their Thai bank accounts.
The accounts must bear the same names as the applicants.
Spouses bank accounts are not eligible!
The minimum amount of 800,000 baht must have been deposited two months before any visa application is filed, making that the mandatory balance for at least five months, plus application processing time.
This has changed from previous rules which only required either an affidavit declaring a 65,000 baht salary or a one-time deposit of 800,000 baht at the time of application.
Along with changes to the financial aspects, the Thai government have brought forward what’s called the TM30.
The TM30 notification and its underlying laws are about the obligation of a landlord to report the stay of a foreigner in his/her property.
The laws about the TM30 and the obligations to report a foreigner’s stay have been in place since 1979, but the government has started to enforce it more strictly and added this as a requirement to the 90-day reporting and extension of visa.
Basically, with the TM30 form and notification, the government is aiming to know exactly where each foreigner is staying all the time.
Delayed or late reporting of a foreigner can be penalized with 800 THB to 1,600 THB per person, however there have been reports that foreigners have had to pay this fine.
In some cases, Immigration will enforce strictly and demand the return slip of a TM30 form.
Also, with the current rate of exchange compared to the strong Thai Baht, is having a major effect on the spending powers of many expats.
The English pound, U.S dollar and the Australian dollar have all been impacted greatly as their exchange rates continue to fall and the Thai baht gets stronger.
If you are looking for an alternative, inexpensive place to retire, consider The Philippines!
The Philippines is an archipelagic country consisting of over seven thousand islands.
These islands span a total of 1840 kilometres south to north.
It is part of the Southeast Asia region, and is bordered by Taiwan to the north, Indonesia and Malaysian Borneo to the south, the South China Sea to the West, and the Pacific Ocean to the East.
There are three main island groups in the Philippines.
These groups are Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao.
The capital is Manila and is located in the island group of Luzon.
The time zone in the Philippines is GMT +8 hours.
Generally, the Philippines has a year-round tropical climate.
March to May is hot and dry!
Why retire in the Philippines?
The main appeal to retire in the Philippines is the lower cost of living.
Housing, food, and labour costs are a lot lower than in other nations.
There are also good currency exchange rates when sending money to Philippines, meaning that the retiree’s money goes further.
The Philippines extends several incentives to expat residents, including discounts for retirees registered with Philhealth and the duty-free import of household goods amongst other things.
Another benefit especially for Western Expats is communication.
Almost every Filipino can understand and speak some English.
The two official languages are Filipino and English.
English is widely used and is the language of choice in higher education.

After Living for 38 YEARS in THAILAND, 67 Year old Farang tells us how to be HAPPY

I know or have known an awful lot of different characters here in Bangkok over the years; from charlatans to vagabonds, clowns to wise men, nice guys, a**holes, pirates, criminals, head-the-balls, sages and wise men; for this is a city that has always drawn interesting characters to it.

I spent a morning with one of these characters just last week and we filmed enough golden content for 2 or 3 videos. Paul is an old school farang, a fascinating character and very much an individual.

Between today's guest and I, we have lived in Thailand for 62 years! After travelling to many different countries, Paul Wallis arrived in Thailand in 1985. Here in Thailand, Paul has found true happiness; a state of bliss. He has immersed himself in Thai culture and speaks the language fluently. He says he can't remember the last day he even had a tinge of sadness. But just how does he do this? You're going to want to watch this video in order to find out!!
What is the law of attraction? The law of attraction argues that positive thoughts and actions reap positive rewards and vice versa for negative ones. At the core of this philosophy is positivity.

Paul is 67 TODAY!! Watch this chat/interview as a birthday gift to him - you won't regret it.

The Day My Thai Father-in-Law Met My Irish Father In Thailand

The day my Irish father met my Thai father-in-law was an event I'll never forget and in this video I tell that story.

In 2018, my Thai wife Nune (Thai girlfriend back then) and I had been together for nearly two years. Nune had been back to Ireland twice to meet my parents and now it was time for both families to meet. This is the epic story of that meeting.

This story takes place in Ayutthaya which is ancient historic city in Thailand. It's quite popular with tourists and in 2018 the Thai temples of Ayutthaya were teaming with Thai tourists dressed up in traditional Thai costumes each person taking about a million photos. This is very relevant to our story as you'll hear later.

Anyway back to the main part of the story. But.... I don't want to give it away. Let's just say the story unfolds over a table of delicious Thai food that my fussy Irish father had never seen before. That's all I can say about it....just watch the video.
