The Villa d'Este, originally Villa del Garovo, is a Renaissance patrician residence in Cernobbio on the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy.

This romantic and lavish hotel was once the private residence of Cardinal Tolomeo Gallio of Como in the late 16th century.

In 1815, it became the residence of Caroline of Brunswick, estranged wife of future King George IV. Its garden seems almost suspended in the air, she wrote in her diary, and forms a scene of complete enchantment. She gave it the name Nuova Villa d'Este and had the park landscaped in the English style.

Since 1873, the Villa d'Este complex has been a luxury hotel which is a popular destination of Hollywood celebrities and elite billionaires for its ultra-luxurious amenities.

Today, with room rates averaging €1000 ($1200) a night and top suites averaging €3500 ($4200) per night, the villa is a luxury hotel for wealthy people and a high-level congress center.

In June 2009, Forbes reckoned it the best hotel in the world, while in 2014 it was listed as the 2nd best resort in Europe by Travel + Leisure magazine.

Every May, the hotel holds a Concours d'Elegance for vintage and concept cars, the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este, which was first presented in 1928. In September, it hosts the annual Ambrosetti Forum, an international workshop attended by prominent figures from the fields of politics, finance and business, which has taken place there since 1975.

Lake Como is a beautiful and serene lake at the foot of the Alps in northern Italy. The Villa d’Este, a prime member of the Leading Hotels of the World, graces this scene as it has done for centuries.

Ornate and opulent and set in gorgeous gardens, this 16th-century villa has hosted nobility and royalty. Politicians, socialites, and intellectuals over generations also come here.

Constructed in 1550 by Pirro Ligorio for Cardinal Ippolito II d'Este (Governor of Tivoli in 1550), Villa d’Este still attracts VIPs worldwide, including the United States. However, with its long tradition of dedicated and warm staff, every guest is made to feel welcome and cosseted.

Lake Como Villa has a glorious lakefront setting amid its own 25 acres of parkland and gardens. This UNESCO World Heritage site is 15 minutes from the town of Como, noted for its Renaissance architecture.

Moreover, Milan Malpensa International Airport is 40 minutes away by car. There is also Lugano airport which is only a 20-minutes drive away. Train connections also run from Milan to Como.

This magnificent palatial villa was once the summer residence of Cardinal Gallio. The Cardinal commissioned famed architect Pellegrino Tibaldi to design a new building replacing a demolished convent on the same site.

It was completed with the lush surrounding gardens between the years 1565-1570. Many changes of ownership and refurbishments, and recent modernizations have allowed the property to remain one of the most celebrated accommodations in the world.

Queen Caroline, the estranged wife of future English King George 1V, loved the villa and Anglicized the gardens, which today are filled with fine statuary. The Cardinal and the Queen are commemorated in the Cardinal Building and Queen’s Pavilion housing the luxury guest rooms.

The villa was converted to a deluxe hotel in 1873. Today it has won awards and accolades, including a Conde Nast Traveler 'Readers Choice recommendation.

The 152 rooms are approached through corridors of lavish furnishings, vaulted ceilings supported on marble pillars. They also drip with Murano chandeliers which also light the sweeping staircases.

Moreover, some have garden or lake/marina views and traditional period décor with antiques, fine art, lavish velvet, silk-brocade fabrics, and deep carpeting. A lovely palette of color also reflects the blues of the lake with washes of primrose and apricot and deeper crimson/gold in some individually designed rooms.

Additionally, those above the central axis of the gardens tastefully adapt color tones of peach and green to echo the vistas. Besides, bathrooms are luxurious with marble finishing.

Modern amenities include air conditioning, mini-bar flat-screen TV, and Wi-Fi. Somewhat surprisingly, but happily, you can take pets in rooms.

The suites have all the opulent features of the rooms with more space. Besides, there are separate living rooms, dining areas, balconies, or terraces. Most feature lavish fabrics in rich blues, and others have a deep cardinal red/gold design.

The resort also has four grand individual villas within the lush European gardens for ultimate luxury and privacy. Villa Cima is beautifully situated right on the shores of Lake Como, while Villa Malakoff is slightly elevated with fine lake views.

Villa Garrovo nestles among the trees in the park, and the extraordinary Mosaic House sits in its own mosaic garden. Romantic interiors in pastel shades feature every comfort, while outside has a terrace and a lake vista.

WEDDING - LAKE COMO - VILLA D'ESTE - CERNOBBIO ITALY

Cernobbio

Beautiful VILLA DEL BALBIANELLO / Lake Como / Italy (4K)

The beautiful Villa del Balbianello is known for its scenic terraced gardens and stunning views of Isola Comacina and the western shore of Lake Como. It's the setting for several movies, including James Bond - Casino Royale, Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, and A Month by the Lake.
Villa del Balbianello is located near the town of Lenno from where you can get a taxiboat for a short ride or walk 1km through a park.
You can buy tickets to see only the gardens or you can join a guided tour to see the interiors.
The whole complex consists of two residential buildings, a church, and a portico that overlooks a little dock. The main building of Villa del Balbianello hosts some English and French furnishings, which date back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
The villa was built in 1787 for Cardinal Angelo Maria Durini who set out to create the most beautiful garden on the Tremezzo Riviera.
In 1976 the property was bought by the famous explorer Count Guido Monzino who dedicated much effort to restoring the house and its grounds. The upper floor of the villa is dedicated to him and his life.
Today, the villa belongs to FAI (a fund for the preservation of the environment ) and is home to private events such as weddings, ceremonies and even film or photographic sets.

( wikipedia)
