Kodachadri or Kudajadri peak is situated in Shimoga district in Karnataka about 115 kilometers from Shimoga and 36 kilometers from Hosanagara. Kudajadri is at a distance of 315 km from Bangalore & at a distance of 147 km from Mangalore. The king cobra, python, tiger, leopard, Indian gaur and a variety of birds, including the Malabar pied hornbill, inhabit these forest.
The Kudajadri peak presents a not to be missed lifetime opportunity in the evening as the sun sets in the west. You can also have a golden glimpse of the Arabian Sea for a moment. The altitude of 1343 m above sea level can be reached by a five-hour trek. At the peak it is believed that Adi Shankaracharya did meditation. And to substantiate the same you will find a 'Sarvajna Peetha' at the top. En route to the peak you will also find a moderate sized waterfall deep inside the evergreen forest of Kodachadri, which is called 'Agastya Teertha'. The famous temple town of Kollur is 12 km away.
Kudajadri hills form a scenic backdrop of the famous Mookambika temple in Kollur. It is believed that Adi Mookambika temple at Kodachadri village is the origin of Goddess Mookambika. This temple is said to be the original Mookambika temple, which is associated with the assassination of demon Mookasura by the lion riding Mother Goddess in nearby forests, where the demon Mookasura was disturbing the penance of the sages , devoted to the goddess. The Kodachari hills are a part of one of the largest forest areas in Karnataka and part of this region forms the Mookambika Nature Reserve. Kollur is an ideal base from which to explore the hills. The Mookambika Nature Camp is 4 km south of Kollur. The best time to visit Kodachari is October to March.

നാലാമത്തെ ഗുഹ
വിഹാര ഗുഹയിൽ ഏറ്റവും വലിയതാണ് ഇത്.. പ്രധാന കവാടം കടന്ന് ചെല്ലൂമ്പോൾ തന്നെ ഉരുപത്തെട്ട് തൂണുകൾ കൊണ്ട് അലംങ്കരിച്ച ഹാൾ കാണുവാൻ സാധിക്കും.
ആറാമത്തെ ഗുഹയിൽ ധാരാളം ബൂദ്ധ പ്രതിമകൾ കാണാം.
ഒമ്പതാമത്തെ ഗുഹയിൽ ഒരു പ്രാർത്ഥനാ ഹാൾ സജ്ജമാക്കിയിട്ടുണ്ട്
പത്താംമത്തെ ഗുഹയിൽ പ്രാർത്ഥനാ ഹാൾ യോദ്ധാക്കൾ ,സംഗീതജ്ഞർ, നൃത്തം ച്ചെയൂന്ന ചിത്രങ്ങൾ ആലേകനം ച്ചെയ്യതിട്ടുണ്ട്.
പന്ത്രണ്ടാമത്തെ ഗുഹകൾ ബുദ്ധ സന്യാസിമാർക്ക് താമസിക്കാൻ ഉള്ള സ്ഥലമാണ്. ഇവിടെ കല്ലുകൾ കൊണ്ട് ഉണ്ടാക്കിയ മെത്തകൾ കാണുവാൻ സാധിക്കും.

രണ്ട് ആനകളുടെ ശില്പത്തിന്റെ നടുവിൽ കുടിയാണ് ഇതിൽ പ്രവേശിക്കേണ്ടത്. മരങ്ങളും ഗ്ലാസുകളും ഉപയോഗിച്ചാണ് ഇതിന്റെ ജനാലകൾ നിർമ്മിച്ചിട്ടുള്ളത്
ഗ്ലാസിൽ കൂടിയുള്ള പ്രകാശം ബുദ്ധ പ്രതിമയിൽ പ്രതിഫലിക്കുന്നത് കാണാം.

ഗോവയിൽ നിന്ന് കാസ്റ്റൽ റോക്ക് എന്ന സ്ഥലത്തേക്കാണ് ട്രയിൻ ടിക്കറ്റ് എടുക്കേണ്ടത്.കാലത്ത് 7.50 ന്ഉള്ള ട്രയിനിൽ കയറി സോണാലിയം എന്ന ഫ്ലറ്റ് ഫോം ഇല്ലാത്ത സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ ചാടി ഇറങ്ങുക. സ്റ്റോപ് ഇല്ലാത്ത ഇവിടെ കുറച്ച് സെക്കന്റകൾ മാത്രമെ വണ്ടികൾ നിർത്താറുള്ളു .
ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ റെയിൽവേ ട്രാക്കിൽക്കൂടി ട്രക്ക് ചെയ്യത് ദൂദ്സാഗർ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടത്തിൽ എത്താം. തിരച്ച് 12 കിലോമീറ്റർ പാളത്തിൽക്കൂടി ട്രക്ക് ച്ചെയത് കുലം എന്ന സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ എത്താം.ഇവിടെ നിന്ന് ട്രെയിൻ മാർഗ്ഗമോ റോഡ് മാർഗ്ഗമോ ഗോവയിൽ എത്താം. ഗൂഡ്സ് ട്രെയിനിൽ കയറേണ്ടവർ നേരെ സിഗനൽന്റെ അടുത്ത് പോയി കൈകാണിക്കുക പരമാവധി ഫോറസ്റ്റ് RPF റെയിൽ അധികാരികളിൽ നിന്ന് അകലം പാലിക്കൂക. എല്ലാവരും കൈകൂലി പ്രതീക്ഷിക്കുന്നു.
എന്റെ യാത്ര ഹൂബ്ലി വഴിയായിരുന്നു.കൊച്ചിയിൽ നിന്ന് ഹൂബ്ലിയിലേക്ക് കുറഞ്ഞ നിരക്കിൽഫ്ലറ്റ് ടിക്കറ്റ് ലഭ്യമാണ് .ഹൂബ്ലിയിൽ നിന്ന് രാത്രി 11.30 ഉള്ള ട്രയിനിൽ കയറി കാലത്ത് അഞ്ച് മണിക്ക് ദൂദ്സാഗർ റെയിൽവേ സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ ഇറങ്ങി. ഫ്ലാറ്റ് ഫാം ഇല്ലാത്ത സ്റ്റേഷനിൽ വളരെ കുറച്ച് നേരം മാത്രമെ ട്രെയിൻ നിർത്തുകയുള്ളു. പെട്ടന്ന് ചാടി ഇറങ്ങി forest, RPF അധികാരികൾ ഉണ്ടാകാം സൂത്രത്തിൽ ഇതിൽ നിന്നെല്ലാം രക്ഷപ്പെടണം. മഴക്കാലത്ത് ദൂദ്സാഗർലേയ്ക്ക് ഉള്ള യാത്ര അനുവദീനയമല്ല .ചിലപ്പോൾ പിഴ അടക്കേണ്ടതായിവരാം.
അര കീലോമീറ്റർ പാളത്തിൽ കൂടി നടന്നാൽ വെളച്ചാട്ടത്തിന്റെ ശബ്ദം നമ്മുടെ കാതുകളിൽ എത്തും.ഈ ദൂരത്തിനുള്ളിൽ രണ്ട് ടണലുകൾ ഉണ്ട്. ഈ ടണലുകളിൽ കൂടിയുള്ള യാത്ര വർണ്ണനാ അധീതമാണ് .അങ്ങ് ദൂരെ പാൽ പതയുന്ന പോലെ വെള്ളച്ചാട്ടം കാണാം. മഴക്കാലത്ത് ദൂദ്സാഗർ അതീവ സൂന്ദരിയാണ്. ഏകദേശം മൂന്ന് മണിക്കൂർ അവിടെ ചിലവഴിച്ച് ,നാല് കിലോമീറ്റർ ദൂരമുള്ള സോണാലിയം സ്റ്റേഷൻ ലക്ഷ്യമാക്കി പാളത്തിൽകൂടിയുള്ള യാത്ര മറക്കാനാവത്ത ഒരു അനുഭവം തന്നെയായിരുന്നു. ഒമ്പത് മണിയോടു കൂടി അമരാവതി എകസ്പ്രസ്സിൽ കയറി കാസ്റ്റൽ റോക്ക് സ്റ്റേഷ്യനിൽ ഇറങ്ങി.ഞായറാഴ്ച ആയത് കൊണ്ട് ഉച്ചയ്ക്ക് 12.50 നു് ഉള്ള പൂർണ്ണ എകസ്പ്രസ്സ ട്രെയിൻ ലഭിച്ചും പിറ്റെ ദിവസം കാലത്ത് ത്രീശൂരിൽഎത്തി.ഈ ട്രെയിൻ ദൂദ്സാഗറിൽ നിർത്താറുണ്ട്.

About 1843 metres above sea level Kodachadri Hill is in the Western Ghats. Home to many endangered species of both the animal and plant kingdom, it is every trekker's dream to trek along the mountain tracks.
Hidlumane Falls:
The fascinating Hidlumane Falls is a series of cascading falls that offers a refreshing sight to the viewers. The waterfall flows as a series of 6 or 7 falls, each a beautiful sight in its own right. The interesting part about these falls is that each of these falls is hidden from one another and each seems to be more enthralling than the last one you see. But the most amazing one among them is the one that is the most secluded and is situated at the top of the cascade.
The beautiful waterfall is situated under the Shimoga district of Karnataka and is located within the Mookambika reserve forest at the base of the Kodachadri hills of the Western Ghats.

Priest description transcript:
Shankaracharya came from a place called Kaaradi and he built 2 temple's (near the jeep stand on the peak) and then he sat for penance here.
Mookambika Devi appeared before him and asked him for his wish. Shankaracharya asked the godess to come to Kerala. Then Devi told Shankaracharya that she will follow him and he can hear the sound of her anklets but he should not turn back to check if the devi is following him.
Shankaracharya agreed to this and Devi started following Shankaracharya.
When in Kollur, Shankaracharya could not hear the Devi's anklet sound. He suspected devi was not following him and he turned back. Devi was not happy, then she told Shankaracharya he had broken his promise so she will not come to Kerala but devotees of Kerala should come and visit her in Kollur. That's the reason there are too many Keralites visiting Kollur.
It is said this mantapa was built overnight. Black Granite is used construct this mantapa. We dont get Black granite around this area. The stone we get here is mixed with Manganese. How this Black granite was brought here and how the mantapa was built remains a mystery. This mantapa is approx. 1500 years old and is said to be of 8th century.
