Kingdom of Tonga Vavau Island Group South Pacific Travel Destination

Tonga is a magnificently beautiful country. The Kingdom is a constitutional Monarchy, modeled after England and uses English law as its base. Located in the grand South Pacific, Tonga is between Tahiti and Fiji, an independent island nation in the southern Pacific Ocean, located approximately 650 km (approximately 400 mi) southeast of Fiji and approximately 1,850 km (approximately 1,150 mi) northeast of New Zealand. Tonga is the only remaining Polynesian monarchy. The Vava’u Island Group. This Cluster of islands, North of the Ha’apai Group, is the most spectacular in Tonga. Vava’u is Tonga’s northern island group, made up of over 60 high and thickly forested isles. An attractive, rather hilly main island surrounded by many others, Vava’u has high cliffs which combine to create many deep fiord-like bays. There are many good beaches but you will have to look for them. The main town of Neiafu is built on a hillside facing Port of Refuge Harbor, one of the best in the South Pacific. Neiafu, the administrative capitol of the Vava‘u Island Group, is one of Tonga’s principal ports. Rich, volcanic soils help make agriculture the primary economic activity in the islands, and products include copra, vanilla, and pumpkins. Vava’u Island is rather large and has kilometer after kilometer of beautiful countryside making for some interesting bicycle rides.

Sailing in the Kingdom of Tonga, Vava’u Group, Ep 54, Off the Starboard Hull

This video is about Sailing in the Kingdom of Tonga, Vava’u Group, Ep 54, Off the Starboard Hull in the South Pacific in a Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran.
A Canadian Couple from Vancouver Island, BC, Canada left from Parksville July 21, 2016 to sail around the world in their Lagoon 400 S2 catamaran. See how they get along, who they meet and where they end up going. They have a 10 year estimated time line, but a very open agenda.
On August 4th, 2018, we arrived in Swarrow, a nature reserve with 2 resident rangers in the Cook Islands. Then we went to the island country of Niue (our 2nd favourite place after Maupiti) with unlimited underwater visibility, pristine coral, baby humpback whales, caverns and chasms. Breathtaking! From there, we traveled to Neiafu (with dozens of protected anchorages), Pangai in the Haipai region and Nuku’alofa, all 3 regions in Tonga. Next was Minerva Reef for 20 hours before we embarked on the notorious passage to NZ.
Since Nov 12 2018, we have been in Opua New Zealand and are loving the friendly people, the lovely Bay of Islands and the access to materials and shops to do some boat projects.

Hi there ! We are Jo and Rob, a slightly crazy husband and wife team, who decided on a whim to sell up and set sail . We had no prior sailing experience when we bought out 40ft catamaran 'Double Trouble' , but hey, mere details right? We moved onboard in January 2017 and have been learning ever since. We love our life , both on and under the oceans. We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment ,so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. No fishing rods for us . Vaka Vave Charters | Swimming with Humpback Whales | Neiafu Vava'u | Kingdom of Tonga

Please share & subscribe! YOU MIGHT NEVER PASS THIS WAY AGAIN.... PLEASE READ THIS WHOLE DESCRIPTION ! IMPORTANT INFO INCLUDED BEFORE SWIMMING WITH WHALES.

Working on other videos of swimming with humpback whales in Neiafu Vava'u Kingdom of Tonga.

What an amazing time it is of swimming in the Pacific Ocean alongside the humpback whales as they come to Vava'u to give birth to their calf. They swim past the island of Hunga and go off toward Fiji and other South Pacific Ocean islands along with the orca, humpback, beluga and dolphin.

We could not only swim with the whales but we were also just able to sit and whale watch from the boat. My friend Jimmy was not able to get in the water so he was fine simply whale watching from above the water without snorkeling with the whales. I shot lots of amazing video too! Whales coming up for air and splashing on their side, and going below the surface with fins up and whale tails above the water. We must have seen about 30-40 whales on a chartered boat we hired, it was a fast jet boat by Vaka Vave Charters. It was fantastic!

There are only a few places in the world where you can swim with giant whales of this earth! Vava'u Kingdom of Tonga is one, and down in Sri Lanka you can snorkel and swim with giant blue whale. But that's about it. I have heard that down in Tahiti you can swim with the humpbacks also, but i heard that it is really expensive... here in Tonga and Sri Lanka it is still not crowded and very cheap to swim with the whales, BUT, it might not be for long... AND it might not be legal for long too... ;) They may decide to one day ban it. Better do it before you don't ever get the chance to do it. :) Ya' know, carpe diem and all that stuff! ... ;)

In Tonga, there are people who schedule swimming with the whales as THE main thing they do when the come to the South Pacific islands! Every single day they go snorkeling and diving with the whales. It is all they do! :) I met two people on the flights to Fiji and that was what they did for 8 days. WOAAH! :)

On our tour we went with an amazing charter company called Vaka Vave Charter. You will find Diane and Izzy and the whole crew and blast to go with! REALLY you won't be disappointed!!!!! The whales will be quite intrigued by you being there and as you can see they will possibly swim to you.

BUT DO NOT SWIM AT (TOWARDS) THEM AND BY ALL MEAN DO NOT DO NOT TOUCH THEM!!!!!! THIS WILL GET YOU TAKEN AWAY FROM THEM QUICKLY!!! WHALES ARE VERY STRONG AND IF THEY HIT YOU WITH THEIR TAIL OR FIN YOU CAN GET HURT BY THEM. THEY DONT MEAN TO BUT YOU ARE IN THEIR TERRITORY. SO BACK AWAY AND WATCH OUT!!!!

2 Weeks Backpacking Tonga | Intro & Teaser

We are back from 2 weeks of backpacking and traveling Tonga! We had an amazing time in Tonga and Im excited to show you what we got up to. Without giving too much away right now...we started out trip in Ha'apai, and spent a day on Lifuka, before going out to Uoleva for 3 days (Freaking AMAZING!). After this we headed off to Vava'u for about 9 days. We spent time in Neiafu and Talihau and explored many other parts of the islands. This is where we also swam with Humpback Whales for 3 days, which was definitely the highlight of the trip for us! We wrapped up our trip with 2 days on Tongatapu and explored most of the island.

Stay tuned for the full series!!

Why Visit the South Pacific? Kingdom of Tonga

Heilala Beauty Festival and Travel video of the Kingdom of Tonga, South Pacific by

Felemea Village, ‘Esi ‘O Ma’afu Homestay, Uiha, Tonga

Tonga has sometimes been named one of the most remote destinations. So far it’s still quite a unique destination where you don’t have to end up in big crowds of tourists. The country is made up of 169 islands spread out in the South Pacific. All international flights lands of the main island Tongatapu where Nuku‘alofa, it’s capital, is located. From here to go to Uiha you first have to head to Ha'apai islands by air or by a 8 hours ferry to Lifuka and then get a boat that takes you to this tiny island.

We arrived in March 2002 while on a trip around the world and after a few days on neighbour island of Uoleva we continued to Uiha where we stayed at ‘Esi ‘O Ma’afu Homestay on the shores of Felemea Village. We were the only guest on the island and we stayed in a small traditional hut, called a fale. In 2002 it was quite rural and simple, everyone was really friendly and five minutes walk we found amazing paradise beaches we enjoyed all on our own.
