Speech by His Majesty King Mswati II The Ingwenyama Cup Final 2019

HIS Majesty King Mswati III is hopeful that with more sporting activities like the Ingwenyama Cup, teams from the SADC region will do well in the Africa Cup and the World Cup in future.

SADC is an acronym for the Southern Africa Development Community, where Eswatini is a member.

His Majesty spoke at halftime of yesterday’s final between Young Buffaloes and Mbabane Highlanders, which was won by the former 4-1.

In his address, the King thanked former South African president Jacob Zuma for coming to the country to support the activities and emphasised the need for SADC to rally behind its sportsmen to lay the groundwork for future success.

“Such activities will help us create strong and competitive sportsmen that will market the region at continental and world stage,” he said.

The King also pointed out that blending sport and culture was essential as it gave countries identity. He remained hopeful that one day the whole of SADC would have its own culture day, where each country would showcase its cultural norms.

???????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????? ???????? ???????????????????????????????? ????????

I spent six amazing days on a press trip with @eswatini_tourism learning about Swazi culture, traditions, food, music, history, people and exploring its beautiful scenery and wildlife.

Formerly known as Swaziland, a name given by British colonizers, King Mswati III renamed the country eSwatini as a powerful move to break with its colonial past.

Gaining independence in 1968, the renaming of the country happened on its 50th anniversary in 2018. “???????????????????????????????????? ???????????????? ???????????????????????? ???????? ???????????? ???????????????????????????????? ????????????????” said King Mswati III to a packed stadium in the capital Mbabane.

Eswatini is the second smallest country in continental Africa and is one of Africa’s last remaining absolute monarchy.

I’m super excited to share everything I learned and experienced on this trip. Head to my stories to see more in depth coverage of how I spent day 1 & 2 in Eswatini.

Let me know in the comments if this is your first time hearing about the Kingdom of Eswatini ????????

The history of Eswatini. Eswatini documentary. World Of Knowledge

Eswatini , officially the Kingdom of Eswatini , sometimes written in English as eSwatini, and formerly and still commonly known in English as Swaziland , is a landlocked country in Southern Africa.

It is bordered by Mozambique to its northeast and South Africa to its north, west, and south.

The population is composed primarily of ethnic Swazis.

The prevalent language is Swazi .

The Swazis established their kingdom in the mid-18th century under the leadership of Ngwane III.

The country and the Swazi take their names from Mswati II, the 19th-century king under whose rule Swazi territory was expanded and unified; the present boundaries were drawn up in 1881 in the midst of the Scramble for Africa.

After the Second Boer War, the kingdom, under the name of Swaziland, was a British protectorate from 1903 until it regained its independence on 6 September 1968.

In April 2018, the official name was changed from Kingdom of Swaziland to Kingdom of Eswatini, mirroring the name commonly used in Swazi

The government is an absolute monarchy, ruled by King Mswati III since 1986.

Elections are held every five years to determine the House of Assembly and the Senate majority.

The current constitution was adopted in 2005.

Umhlanga, the reed dance held in August/September, and incwala, the kingship dance held in December/January, are the nation's most important events
