Kok Tobe (Kazakh: Көктөбе Kök Töbe - Blue Hill; Russian: Кок-Тюбе, Kok-Tyube) is a mountain in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city. Kók Tóbe Park, a popular recreation area, is on top of the mountain. The mountain's height is 1100 meters above sea level. Kok Tobe is one of the main landmarks in the city, and it is popular among visitors and tourists to Almaty.
Kok-tobe, is located just in Almaty city and very popular among tourists. You can get there by cable car road which is rather expensive, by walk or by special small buses. But taking the cable car to the top worth it. This is great place to visit, especially in the evening to see the sunset. A few restaurants and fast food joints. It’s just a nice area to walk around and enjoy the views.
Kok Tobe working hours
The cable car road works all week long from 10 in the morning till 12 at night. Only on Tuesday it starts working from 15 p.m. till 12 p.m.

Kok Tobe:
Kok Tobe is a mountain in Almaty, Kazakhstan's largest city. There is a popular recreation area on top of the mountain. The mountain's height is 1100 meters above sea level. Kok Tobe is one of the main landmarks in the city, and it is popular among visitors and tourists to Almaty.
Recreational area
The Kok Tobe recreational area has a variety of amusement park type attractions and restaurants. It is connected to downtown Almaty by a cable car line. The City Terminal is located near Hotel Kazakhstan. Also, there is a 372 meters tall TV Tower at the foot of the mountain. The tower can be seen from most parts of the city.
Almaty Tower (aka Kok Tobe Tower), the city's television tower, is located on the south-eastern slope of the hill. It was built during 1975 and 1983, and if measured from sea level, this tower is one of the highest in the world 372 meters tall. It has a couple observation platforms, but they are not open to the public. It is unique, because unlike other TV towers, it was built entirely of steel, and has a tubular structure. Locals considered constructing the TV tower somewhere else, but it ended up being built in Kok Tobe area.
Beatles monument:
A bronze statue of The Beatles by sculptor Eduard Kazaryan was placed on Kok Tobe mountain on May 15, 2007. The monument was inaugurated as part of the launch of the National Award Music feature - 2007. This is the first monument of the legendary Fab Four in full. John Lennon is seen sitting on a bench with his guitar, while behind him stand Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr
Kok Tobe park has various entertainments such as a fountain of desire in the shape of an apple, a children's playground, a climbing wall, the Fast Coaster ride, an art gallery, and tea house.

Kok-Tobe Hill (or Kok-Tube) is a popular tourist attraction in Almaty and also a favorite spot amongst locals. The small mountain — standing at 1130 meters above sea level and presiding 200 meters over the relative height of Almaty — is located on the southeast edge of Almaty. With its name translating to “Blue Hill”, a small amusement park, various monuments, a myriad of viewing platforms, and the Almaty TV Tower are just a few of the attractions at Kok-Tobe. There is a cable car to the top as well as a road for cars and foot traffic.
Initially, the area was called Verigina Mountain in honor of a rich merchant who built his house at its foot. In the 1960s, the leaders of Almaty decided to turn the hill into a park and work began on creating all the necessary infrastructure. In 1965, the lower station of the cableway was built and all work was completed in 1967. On 4 November of that year, the grand opening of the Kok-Tobe Park took place.

The cable car leading to the top, the first of its kind in Central Asia, was designed and built together with Georgian engineers. A six-minute ride, the cable car on Kok-Tobe is 1620 meters long and gains approximately 250 meters in elevation. The cost of a return ticket is about $4.
Between 1978 and 1983, a 371.5-meter TV tower was built on Kok-Tobe. At the time of its construction, Almaty Tower was the third tallest tower in the world. Although it is the 14th tallest tower today, it still holds the title as the tallest free-standing tubular steel structure in the world. Aside from simply being tall, the tower has another outstanding feature: its seismic resistance; the tower can withstand earthquakes of 8.0 on the Richter scale. Although it is currently closed to tourists, renovations are under way with the hopes of modernizing the tower to give tourists and locals alike a look at Almaty and the surrounding mountains from an even greater height.
In 2007, a monument to British rock group The Beatles was opened at Kok-Tobe. The entire Fab Four are here: John Lennon is sitting on a bench with a guitar and around him are Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr. The monument, made of bronze, is one of the most popular attractions the park. Around the statues there are several speakers which blast English rock hits.
There are also souvenir shops on Kok-Tobe for finding the perfect way to remember Kazakhstan, a Ferris wheel with great views, and several viewing platforms for looking out over Almaty or across the snowy peaks of the Zaili Alatau Mountains. At the end of the walk through Kok-Tobe, you can go to the fountain “Alma” which is in the form of an apple. Apples are a symbol of the city of Almaty and throwing a coin into the fountain is considered good luck.

Shot in 2023, this is a walking tour on top of Kok Tobe Hill, which is one of the main tourist attractions of Almaty, the biggest city and former capital of Kazakhstan.
The top of Kok Tobe mountain (“Blue hill” in Kazakh) is at 1,100 meters (about 3,600 ft) above sea level, which seems impressive at first glance. The altitude difference with the city center of Almaty is not very big though and therefore Kok Tobe really appears more as a hill than a mountain.
The cable car, which is the most interesting way to reach the top and starts not far from the city center, close to the Kazakhstan Hotel, covers an altitude difference of only 250 meters (about 800 ft). The ticket price has significantly gone up in 2023 to 3,000 Tenge / 6€ / 7 US-$ one way, 5,000 Tenge return which makes this a quite expensive option, given that the cable car ride takes only 6 minutes. A minibus leaving also from the cable car station is a less expensive alternative.
The view on the city and on the Tian Shan / Ile Alatau mountain range in the other direction is the main attraction for international tourists, but air humidity and pollution frequently don’t allow very clear views.
Other tourist attractions on Kok Tobe Hill, Almaty that you will see in this walk through include an alpine coaster, various restaurants and bars, as well as the amusement park Kok Tobe park, which includes various rides and a small zoo (with quite appalling conditions for the animals).
Almaty is located in the mountainous area of southern Kazakhstan in the foothills of the Trans-Ili Alatau at an elevation of 700–900 m (2,300–3,000 feet).

This cable car ride to Kók Tóbe Park is a really good way to the top of Kok-Tobe Hill and see the view of surrounding mountains. The cable car goes over some of the oldest parts of Almaty and it’s interesting to see the old fruit growing gardens.

An entire day dedicated to the top things to see in Almaty, Kazakhstan. On our tour of the city we visited Zenkov’s Cathedral ⛪️, explored Panfilov Park, took a cable car to Koke
Tobe Hill to ride the Fast Coaster, looked at some architecture, and ate at The Noodles Almaty.
In the afternoon we rode up into the mountains to enjoy a glass of local wine at Shymbulak Mountain Resort, on of Kazakhstan’s top ski resorts.
We ended our day with a meal of traditional Kazakh food such as beef, lamb, and of course, horse meat.
