Kavala is a scenic town in Northern Greece with a rich history dating back to Roman, Byzantine and Ottoman times.
With many well-preserved Byzantine and Ottoman buildings, remarkable castle, aqueduct structure, beautiful beaches and the archaeological site of Philippi, Kavala is a great travel destination and one of the most picturesque cities in Greece.
This travel video presents some of the attractions and places Kavala is famous for - the Old Town with the ancient Castle, Mohammed Ali's house (founder and ruler of modern Egypt) and Imaret hotel; city center with Kamares Aqueduct, the Town Hall, Municipal Tobacco Warehouse, Archaeological museum, the port and promenade, and the Archaeological Site of Philippi which is located 18 km north of Kavala.
The video also features the beautiful Kalamitsa beach which is within the city and some other beautiful beaches like Nea Iraklitsa and Nea Peramos, which are 13-18 km west of Kavala.

A blue city, with peaceful waters, sandy beaches, huge coastlines and organised or unexplored shores, with tavernas next to the sea, and unexpectedly beautiful spots. It’s an open secret that the beaches of Kavala have it all!
An active town, which lives to the rhythms of a megacity with a completely relaxed attitude at every moment!
A town that is alive, which lives and breathes to the rhythms of its long history, its present and its future as the most developed urban centre in Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. With a very large port and a state-of-the-art marina, it is one of the most important fishing centres of Greece.
At the port – an ideal destination for a cruise – Kavala lives to the rhythms of the market and work. However, as the day goes by, a sweet air of relaxation gradually starts to prevail. It spreads out to the open-air cafes and the tavernas serving ouzo and mezes, is reflected in the peninsula of Panagia, with the Fortress and the Old Town, and can be sensed during brief walks to the pier, where the tourist boats moor.
In its shops, in the narrow lanes around Agios Nikolaos, next to the central square, where the shops still emit the aroma of another era. Large, modern department stores can still be found on the other side, in Omonia and Venizelou Streets. These two markets are “united” by the imposing building of the Municipal Market, where you can do all your daily shopping, particularly food.
But… as you take your walk, don’t rush. Because somewhere there in the centre, in the narrow lanes and neighbourhoods of the town, the shops or the port, in unexpected places, they will offer you a glass of ouzo with meze or the dessert of your choice. And you will have the chance to get to know the residents of a real Greek town – a town that is beautiful and hospitable!

Kavala by drone | GREECE ????????
Kavala (Greek: Καβάλα) is a city in northern Greece, the principal seaport of eastern Macedonia and the capital of Kavala regional unit.
It is situated on the Bay of Kavala, across from the island of Thasos and on the Egnatia motorway, a one-and-a-half-hour drive to Thessaloniki (160 kilometers west). It is also about 150 kilometers west of Alexandroupoli.
Kavala is an important economic center of Northern Greece, a center of commerce, tourism, fishing and oil-related activities and formerly a thriving trade in tobacco.
The city was probably founded by settlers from Paros around the 6th century BC. It was called Naples, meaning new city. The gold mines in the nearby Pangeon Hills made it a thriving resort. It became a Roman civitas in 168 BCE. and was the base of Brutus and Cassius before the Battle of Philippi. The apostle Paul reached Kavala on his first trip to Europe, and during the Byzantine era the name of the city was renamed Christupolis.
Kavala was part of the Ottoman Empire in the years 1371-1912, and in 1913, as a result of the Balkan Wars, it became part of Greece. The birthplace of Muhammad Ali and his adoptive son Ibrahim Pasha is located here. The most characteristic objects are: the Byzantine-Venetian castle on the Panajia hill and the aqueduct built on the order of Suleiman I. Because it was built according to Roman plans, it is often referred to as Roman in descriptions.

Kavala ist eine Handels- und Hafenstadt sowie Gemeinde in Nordgriechenland in der Verwaltungsregion Ostmakedonien und Thrakien unmittelbar am Golf von Thasos (Golf von Kavala) des Thrakischen Meers. Die nach Drama zweitgrößte Gemeinde der Region hat etwa 70.500 Einwohner. Sie besitzt den Haupthafen Ostmakedoniens und verfügt über einen etwa 30 km östlich der Stadt gelegenen Verkehrsflughafen, der hauptsächlich für Inlandsflüge und den touristischen Charter-Verkehr genutzt wird. Partnerstadt in Deutschland ist seit 1998 Nürnberg.

Visiting Kavala, a picturesque city full of history in the east Macedonia region of northern Greece. Some refer to it as the blue city because of the blue and turquoise waters of the Aegean that surround its old city center.
I spent much of the day exploring the Panagia peninsula, which is Kavala’s old town, where many historic sites and amazing views from the castle on its summit can be found.

One of the most beautiful and picturesque cities in Greece, there are many organized and secluded beaches nearby, groves with sports facilities, trekking trails, many museums and sights worth seeing such as the Kamares (medieval aqueduct), the Castle, the great Town Hall which is a Hungarian miniature tower, the Municipal Tobacco Warehouse and the Imaret which is a big edifice of the last Ottoman period. There are also many tourist accommodations in the city and along the coastline.

I've been a few times now and it's actually such a stunning place, the people are super friendly, the coffee is amazing, you've got the old style buildings and the Archaeological Site of Philippi all within driving distance. I know I didn't include it, but the beaches in Kavala are also some of the nicest beaches I've been to.
