KLM 747-400 - Amazing takeoff from Amsterdam to Chicago O'Hare
AMS-ORD. An absolutely gorgeous day in Amsterdam. Love the jumbo jet. This might be the last time I fly on the 747 as the airlines are phasing them out. Includes pushback, startup, taxi, takeoff, and climb. As we reached our cruise altitude, we hit some decent turbulence. Great wing flex on the 747 (see 10:05).

KLM 747-400 - Powerful Evening Takeoff from Amsterdam
AMS-JFK. A dusk takeoff out of Amsterdam. Love the 747 jumbo and thse GE egnines. They make a great sound. While KLM's 747s may not be the most high-tech (small screens, no plugs/USB ports), it's worth it to fly them while they last.
We hit some good turbulence while over the ocean. Great view of the cloud covered ground.

A lot of discussions are held on the headline. No there are no rockets on this Video! Rocket takeoff means that the takeoff-run was very short and the climb rate was very high due to the fact that the aircraft was very light. Normally a Boeing 747-400 serves long haul routes with a lot of fuel on board on takeoff. In this regular case it needs a much longer takeoff-run. On rather rare short flights like the 1 hour flight form St. Maarten to Curacao, the aircraft is pretty light as it doesn t need much fuel. This is why it accelerates very fast and can climb very steep, other than on regular typical B747 Long Haul Takeoff procedures. Thanks for watching.

KLM 747-400 - Beautiful Afternoon landing at Chicago O'hare
AMS-ORD. This contrasted the last time I was in Chicago on a KLM 747, which was very cold and snowy.
A wonderful afternoon around the Chicago area. The clouds were spectacular as we made are way into O'hare. This might be the last time I fly on the 747 as the airlines are phasing them out. A very smooth landing was a great way to end the flight. A lot of great ground taffic as well as we taxied to the gate.

KLM 747-400 - Cold Evening Takeoff from Chicago O'hare w/ Mechanical Problem
ORD-AMS: Took off almost 3 hours late due to a cargo door malfunction. Because of the frigid cold temperature, the door would not open. They had to manually open the door, which in total, took about 2 and a half hours. We boarded about about an hour and a half before takeoff so it was a long wait, but I was impressed with KLM's service. The pilot constantly kept us updated on the progress of the door and the flight attendants came around offering water and snacks while we waited.
It was a short flight, around 6 and a half hours, but we still arrived 2 hours behind schedule, resulting in a bit of a headache to get to Zurich, my final destination. A reward to the whole situation was no one else was in my row, so I was able to lay down for a few hours.
Always a great experience flying the 747. I hope I can fly on one or two more time before they retire. I've included some interior photos at the end.

KLM 747-400 Takeoff Los Angeles International Airport - WING VIEW AND ENGINE FLEX
Takeoff aboard the Queen of the Skies, the Boeing 747-400 with KLM Royal Dutch Airlines from Los Angeles to Amsterdam.
Such a shame KLM announced immediate retirement of all their 747-400s. I was looking forward to flying with them one last time and the last thing I thought was that this would be my last flight with the iconic jumbo jet with KLM.
Stunning views of a sunny California coast. Pay attention to the wing flex and engine movement. Such an engineering feat!
Enjoy this video, this view hopefully just as much as I enjoyed taking off for the last time. It will be missed.

KLM 747-400 - Beautiful Sunrise Landing into Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

We boarded about about an hour and a half before takeoff so it was a long wait, but I was impressed with KLM's service. The pilot constantly kept us updated on the progress of the door and the flight attendants came around offering water and snacks while we waited.
It was a short flight, around 6 and a half hours, but we still arrived 2 hours behind schedule. A couple of positives came out of the delay situation:
1) No one else was in my row, so I was able to lay down for a few hours
2) We were able to witness the sunrise as we descended towards Amsterdam. If we hadn't been delayed, it would have been completely black outside.
Overall a smooth flight over with only a few bumps here and there. A scenic decent over the Holland landscape, ending with a smooth touch down. Lots of great ground traffic in the morning. It's sad to no longer see the KLM Fokker 70s lined up next to the ERJs; it's solid ERJs now.
Always a great experience flying the 747. I hope I can fly on one or two more time before they retire. I've included some interior photos at the end.

After years of watching and filming the heavy international arrivals at Chicago O'Hare Int'l Airport, I decided I would film in this video the perspective of coming to Chicago ORD as seen from the airplanes
...instead of the planespotter.
In this video we depart runway 24 at Schiphol and land on the same approach that I have filmed so many arrivals before: runway 28 Center. Look for the big red buildings on short final.... Wally Airport Parking Chicago, one of my favorite plane spotting locations at O'Hare.

KLM 747 - Final Visit to St. Maarten (SXM) on 10/28/2016
As seen live on
KLM's final visit to St. Maarten with a 747 aircraft, to be replaced by an Airbus A330 for direct non-stop service between Amsterdam and St. Maarten. Boeing 747 continues on route from AMS to CUR.
Sad day for all aviation fans as KLM were the last operators of a heavy 747 to this small island. The low pass landings and sand blasting of Maho Beach goers have become world famous and will continue with smaller, more fuel-efficient jets.
