Central Asia-Highlihgts of Kazakhstan (2018) Part 31

Welcome to my travelchannel. ☛☛☞☛
On my channel you can find more than 1000 films of almost 80 countries. See the playlist on my youtube channel.Enjoy!
Republic of Kazakhstan: Central Asia
Kazakhstan officially the Republic of Kazakhstan is the world's largest landlocked country, and the ninth largest in the world, with an area of 2,724,900 square kilometres (1,052,100 sq mi). It is a transcontinental country largely located in Asia; the most western parts are located in Europe. Kazakhstan is the dominant nation of Central Asia economically, generating 60% of the region's GDP, primarily through its oil/gas industry. It also has vast mineral resources.
Kazakhstan is officially a democratic, secular, unitary, constitutional republic with a diverse cultural heritage.Kazakhstan shares borders with Russia, China, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan, and also adjoins a large part of the Caspian Sea. The terrain of Kazakhstan includes flatlands, steppe, taiga, rock canyons, hills, deltas, snow-capped mountains, and deserts. Kazakhstan has an estimated 18.3 million people as of 2018. Given its large land area, its population density is among the lowest, at less than 6 people per square kilometre (15 people per sq mi). The capital is Astana, where it was moved in 1997 from Almaty, the country's largest city.
The territory of Kazakhstan has historically been inhabited by Turkic nomads who trace their ancestry to many Turkic states such as Turkic Khaganate etc. In the 13th century, the territory joined the Mongolian Empire under Genghis Khan. By the 16th century, the Kazakh emerged as a distinct group, divided into three jüz (ancestor branches occupying specific territories). The Russians began advancing into the Kazakh steppe in the 18th century, and by the mid-19th century, they nominally ruled all of Kazakhstan as part of the Russian Empire.
Kazakhstan's 131 ethnicities include Kazakhs (63% of the population), Russians, Uzbeks, Ukrainians, Germans, Tatars, and Uyghurs.Islam is the religion of about 70% of the population, with Christianity practised by 26%. Kazakhstan officially allows freedom of religion, but religious leaders who oppose the government are suppressed. The Kazakh language is the state language, and Russian has equal official status for all levels of administrative and institutional purposes. Kazakhstan is a member of the United Nations,

Exploring Remote Villages In KAZAKHSTAN | Epic Nature, Food + Kazak Culture

This is Kazakhstan IN ALL ITS GLORY. If you're looking for an epic adventure experience, I would highly recommend checking out the more natural and remote parts of Kazakhstan because it really does have so much to offer. From the small village of Saty you can see the famous Kaindy and Kolsay Lakes and take it the stunning natural beauty of the surrounding mountains. In this vlog I went over where we stayed in Saty, the local food and culture, as well as how you can have this experience yourself. Below I've listed the companies I would recommend checking out if you'd like to go on this tour, as well as Kazakhstan tours as a whole as well!

The company I went with - Tourism Kazakhstan (mainly for Russian speakers, but there was one English speaking dude on our tour and he did ok!) -

An English speaking tour company with a similar 2 day tour (please keep in mind I have never traveled with them, only going by info I've found) -

The tour companies below I've travelled with before to other destinations and absolutely LOVE, but are longer tours if you want to see more of Kazakhstan and surrounding areas:

General Kazakhstan trips with Saty included - I'd recommend HIGHLIGHTS OF KYRGYZSTAN AND KAZAKHSTAN:

Also a great long term tour but doesn't have Saty (Intrepid Travel):

Tokal: Kazakh women who seek to become second wives

More films about Kyrgyzstan:
Some see it as normal matrimony that's blessed by God, others as a mutually beneficial marriage of convenience. Even though polygamy is technically illegal in Kazakhstan, having more than one wife is a widespread practice among the rich, They see it as a right enshrined in the Koran and will often decide to take an extra wife, a tokal, without consulting the first. Usually a younger woman, a Tokal is expected to bear children for her older husband, a capability that the older first wife may have lost. Kenishebk Satoy dreams of having more than 30 children. To accomplish that, he plans to take several wives. He already has two but is constantly searching for more tokal candidates. Rimma Tazhibaeva lost her husband and was left unsupported to raise three children; she opted to become a tokal so she'd have a man to take care of her family. When mother of three Altynai Ormanova was told that a pregnant tokal would be living in her home, she chose to end the marriage rather than share her husband with another woman. Author Ayan Kudakova explores this controversial topic and tries to determine whether a polygamous marriage can also be a happy one or two or more!

Spending a day with a Kazakh family in rural Xinjiang

This video is about the second half of my 7th day traveling on the Silk Road in China.
I headed to the grasslands to meet a Kazakh family I had been introducd to the evening before.
While at the grasslands I learned about life on the grasslands, how life has changed, the animals living in the area and the food they eat.

Hit CC for English subtitles.
I tried my best to write subtitles for this video. As the man was speaking with an accent it was a bit hard for me to understand sometimes, therefor some parts might be incorrect or incomplete. Please feel free to let me know how to make them better.

Enjoy the video!

Sneaking Into Churches Half Naked In Kazakhstan

RUDE. I am a HUMAN BEING and I deserve to be able to go on the ferris wheel as I please! In all seriousness, Kazakhstan is not a country you hear a lot of people talking about in the west, so I'm glad I was able to come here myself and see what it was all about. This was my first day exploring Almaty solo. Hope you guys enjoy the vlog! xo

Kazakhstan: big country, great leader?

Where exactly is Kazakhstan and who is the leader of this big country? How do people live in Kazakhstan and how does the population live around the nuclear test site Semipalatinsk? How does the leader of Kazakhstan, president Nursultan Nazarbayev, lead the country? A documentary about Kazakhstan, his leader and the still visible legacy of the Soviet Union.

In this eight-part travel series, the Dutch journalist and author Jelle Brandt Corstius travels through Russia and visits the neighbor countries Latvia, Moldova, Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. What image do the Russians have of their neighbors and vice versa? What are the relations between powerful Russia and the other former Soviet republics? And how do the countries around Russia treat their Russian inhabitants? A series about propaganda and identity.

In the ice-cold steppe, where labor camps used to be, lies Astana, the new capital of Kazakhstan. The city was built out of nowhere using huge oil and gas reserves found in the Caspian Sea in the 1990s. Where you would expect nomads and yurts are futuristic buildings designed by the famous architect Norman Foster. In the Soviet era, Kazakhstan was a kind of backyard, where hundreds of labor camps were created and where millions of Russian prisoners were found.

Since Kazakhstan has become independent one man is in power, Nursultan Nazarbayev. He is probably longer President than anyone else in the world. All elections are manipulated and an opposition does not exist. Putin is a Democrat if you compare him to Nazarbayev. He governs the country as if it were his property. Parks are named after him, statues of him are everywhere and children born on his birthday receive a gift.

Kazakhstan is as big as Western Europe, but only few people know this big country. Most have heard of the nuclear weapons test site Semipalatinsk, where a total of 468 nuclear bombs were detonated. We visit the test site and meet people that live in that area. The local population is still struggling with health problems. It`s the legacy of a Soviet Union, of which some fear it will return.

This Video Will Change Your Mind About Kazakhstan

Thank you to Star of Asia & Almaty Tourism Board

We love Kazakhstan!
It's our second time being there and it's always been an awesome time. While most people might think of Borat when they hear the word 'Kazakhstan' in reality, it's a much more modern and diverse place.

We're in Almaty, which is an absolutely breath-taking city and area (as you'll see in the video). The people, the food, the sights - three reasons why you need to visit!

We're looking forward to our next trip there!
Please consider visiting Kazakhstan & Almaty!

Dungan Village Yrdyk and Family Dinner - Kyrgyzstan 4K Travel Channel

The village of Yrdyk is approximately 10 km west of Karakol. Here lives the closed community of Dungans, the successors of the Muslim Chinese, in China described as Hui. Until recently, only Dungans who are married to Dungans are allowed to live in Yrdyk.
About 140 years ago, the Dungans were expelled from China and came in three groups to Kyrgyzstan. One of these groups settled in Yrdyk. The other two groups were largely assimilated by the local population. Approx 1000 people came to Yrdyk. Today, about 3000 inhabitants live here. They have kept their own culture, which is reflected in architecture, clothing and many other habits.
At the mosque, we meet Aman from Destination Karakol, with whom we already made the food tour in Karakol.
He gives us an overview of the history of the mosque. Originally it was designed by the same architect who built the Dungan Mosque in Karakol. The mosque in Yrdyk should be twice as big. During the construction phase, an insurrection of the Kyrgyz against the Russian Empire took place, and the Dungan also joined the uprising.
But the uprising was defeated and the unfinished mosque turned into a warehouse. Then it was burnt down by the Dungans. After the collapse of the Soviet Union and the independence of Kyrgyzstan, today's mosque was rebuilt 20 years ago. Only men have access.
The Dungan museum is only a few streets away. Here, Mr. Lyck Lee awaits us already. He even speaks a little German. Aman acts as an English interpreter.
The immigrant Dungans belong to two ethnic groups, the Ma and the Lee. Mr. Lee is 65 years old and, as the name suggests, a representative of the Lee ethnic group. He says that Bruce Lee is one of his relatives.
He tells the story of the Dungan which came as Arab warriors to China to support the emperor. To make them stay in China, they were married to Chinese women. Paintings and pictures show these couples. Dungans live according to Chinese tradition and customs but have Muslim faith.
150 years ago there was an uprising in China because of the restrictions on the living conditions for farmers. After a 15-year fight, the people had to escape over the Tien Shan Mountains in wintertime.
........
please read more:

Vinny's Travel Log: Questions for Kazakhstan? Kyrgyzstan? China?

I'm hoping to visit Kazakhstan someday, and possibly Kyrgyzstan and/or China. Any travel tips for these countries? I also have a few specific questions of my own, if you'd rather cut to the chase, here they are:

1) Language barriers; I can read/write Cyrillic alphabet just fine, know some Kazakh, but I'd probably be better off learning Russian. Also, how to determine if we're speaking Russian or Kazakh?

2) My appearance. I look a LOT like a Kazakh, would this work for or against me? Is wearing an Orthodox cross okay or would it attract the wrong attention?

3) Kyrgyzstan/China. Any legal hassles with crossing into these countries?

4) Corrupt officers, how to deal with them and stay out of trouble?

5) How much money to bring. I read every $1 is roughly 320 Tenges.

My plans: Zenkov Ascension Cathedral, Tian Shan Mountains, journal the prices of things, visit a yurt (hopefully), and try the local foods (particularly Beshbarmak). Any other things that would enrich my experience?
