The snow-capped mountains, beautiful lakes and impeccable natural beauty. Sigh! If there is one European place every Bollywood buff in India wishes to visit, Switzerland would be it! With many Indian films being shot in this European paradise, I just had to visit this place to satiate the filmy girl in me. Read more about my experience:
While I had been longing to visit this places for years, it only worked out a week before my actual departure. My unapproved leaves got approved, I got a cheap airfare alert and I also had a valid Schengen visa. It was literally the case of - The Mountains Are Calling.

Top 10 Villages of SWITZERLAND – Most beautiful Swiss Towns – Best Places [Full Travel Guide]
Switzerland is a small country full of surprises and wonderful villages. Since decades, Switzerland has been attracting numerous tourists from allover the world. It is the Alps that fascinates most of the visitors but also the very well preserved villages. Although Switzerland is quite small, depending on the region, the villages and towns may look very different. In this video, the 10 most beautiful villages from allover the country will be presented in detail. While there may be a few that you might have heard of, there will be quite some surprises. Gruyères is THE place to experience the medieval vibes in Switzerland. The castle, the museums and furthermore the foodie world of Gruyères are really exciting to experience, do not forget to try fondue, Gruyère cheese and double cream! Zermatt is the most popular village on this list. Visit the many panoramas over the Swiss Alps, see the Matterhorn or simply explore the village of Zermatt itself! Discover the many beautiful traditional wooden houses scattered around this Swiss village! Visit what used to be the smallest municipality of Switzerland: Corippo. Corippo is located in the Valle Verzasca in Ticino. It's a wonderful village full of stone houses and very interesting: ONLY 12 people live in there! Surely, it's not crowded there. Saint-Ursanne is another medieval village; the town that could be in a fairytale. Saint-Ursanne is built along the river doubs and charms with its many medieval houses and wonderful abbey. Guarda - the town of Schellenursli - in the lower Engadin is located in the Rumantsch speaking region of Switzerland. It's far away the urban centres and very quiet. Best to visit during Summer or on Chalandamarz! Grimentz is THE stereotypical village of Switzerland. It's located up in the Swiss Alps and charms with its many traditional wooden houses. The houses are all decorated with red flowers; cheesy and alluring! Lauterbrunnen is another touristy favorite. The village is small but it's located in the Valley of 72 Waterfalls! Enjoy the scenery with its many waterfalls and greens! Do not forget to go up to Wengen and the Jungfraujoch! Epesses is located in Switzerland's wine region at lake Geneva! It's a wonderful village in the middle of the vineyards and definitely offers you enough viewpoints over the wine terraces, lake Geneva and the Swiss Alps. Stein am Rhein is also a very medieval and cultural village. The old town is perfectly preserved and charms with its many painted houses. Spectacular is the No e Wili play that is held on a 10-25 years base. Enjoy swimming in the river Rhine or dining at the Castle Hohenklingen. MORCOTE is the most beautiful Swiss village on this Top 10 list! It's located at Lake Lugano and charms with its appearance of being built at the hill. Stunning is the church Maria del Sasso, the wonder garden in the Parco Scherrer and furthermore the many viewpoints on the hill. Morcote is by the way considered not very touristy. For our exploratory Swiss Trip, we decided to base in Zurich because:
- We were lazy in terms of looking for a hotel per area (Interlaken, Luzern, etc)
- We didn't want the hassle of repacking our luggage
- We like train rides and most of the places we went to were just 1-3hrs away (using a Swiss Travel Pass was awesome and cost-effective)

Grindelwald (Switzerland June 2023)
For this trip, we chose Zurich for our base since most of the places are 2-3hrs away by Train.
And we got the Swiss Travel Pass for 10days (8days + 2days free via promo).
If you want to do the activities (biking, hiking, etc), search for `Grindelwald First` on your google maps.
Grindelwald is actually a pretty big place and is also the starting point for the Jungfraujoch.

Europe Trip June 2022 - Part 1 - Switzerland
This video is part one of our trip to Europe in June 2022. We left Charlotte, NC on Monday, June 6 and flew to JFK in New York. After collecting our bags and checking in with Emirates Airlines, we waited a few hours before boarding our Airbus A380-800 around 10:00 PM.
We flew all night, trying to sleep as much as we could, and landed in Milan, Italy around noon on Tuesday, June 7th. We rented our car, stopped at a grocery store and had lunch, and then started our drive north into Switzerland. We stopped along Lake Lucerne to stretch our legs and so I could fly my drone before it started to rain (it never did, although it called for it). We checking into our Airbnb which was about 10 minutes south of downtown. We loved our host, an extremely nice widow named Sylvia. She showed us our rooms and we dropped off our bags before taking the car into downtown Lucerne.
We enjoyed the evening stroll in Lucerne (or as they call it, Luzern). The next morning, Sylvia made us the cutest little breakfast. She enjoyed talking with us, because she said when she talks with her American guests, it helps her learn English! After breakfast we got in the car and drove a few miles south to the town of Alpnachstad, where we boarded the world's steepest cog railroad at Pilatus-Bahn. The railroad seemed to go straight up Mt. Pilatus. After about 30 or 40 minutes, we reached the summit at 7,000 feet. At first it was quite cloudy, but the clouds soon cleared out, giving us magnificent views of the Alps to the south, and Lucerne to the north.
We took the Dragon Ride Gondola to a lower area of the mountain, where we rode the summer toboggin mountain coaster. This was a ton of fun! From there, we took another cable car back down to the city of Lucerne. We had to take a city bus to the train station, and then walked around town some more. I really wanted to see the famous Lion Monument, which was about a 15 minute walk away. From there, we walked around the old town before crossing the famous Chapel Bridge. After taking a few more pictures, we took the train back to Alpnachstad and ate lunch. After that, we got in the rental car, and drove east toward the small country of Liechtenstein.
