The modern streets of Jerusalem are no older than the middle ages. So where are the original streets that Jesus would have walked on? Is it possible to find them still today?

In this episode, we descend underground, beneath the modern street of Via Dolorosa, to find the original stones that would have witnessed the events.

What Israelis Really Think about Jesus, Messianic Jews and Christianity

What do Israelis think about Jesus and Christianity? Today I’m going to talk about a very sensitive and interesting topic.

I have decided to close the membership program here on YouTube and open one on Ko-fi instead. It is so much better than YouTube! There are several advantages: I can send you messages and answer your questions privately; I can post several photos together; you can choose between one-time support or becoming a member and sending your support once a year and not once a month… And if you send me $10 then I get… $10! There is no commission! (Whereas YouTube takes 30% commission.)

Thanks for your support – you keep me going!

3 Religions one Country - Israel in Conflict?

Israel - we heard many scary stories about this country. Terrorism and war is what they show in the media. During the educational project Enconters we followed the media team of the German Immanuel-Kant-Schule (Bremerhaven) on their trip to Tel Aviv, Jerusalem and Haifa, to make our own picture of life in Israel - with surprising results.

THREE Part 1: Jerusalem

Jerusalem – Crossroads of three great religions: Islam, Judaism and Christianity.
This city is holy ground to three worldwide monotheistic faiths which together have followers that represent more than half of the world’s population. The flashpoint of conflict for thousands of years, these few acres of land are one of the most contested plots of land in history.
In this episode of THREE we arrive in Israel as they celebrate the nation's independence and then step back in time as we walk through the Damascus into the streets of Jerusalem to see what it’s like to be part of the pilgrims, worshippers and regular people who mix on the streets of this holy city.

3 Religions - JERUSALEM القُدس ירושלים यरुशलम

During its long history, Jerusalem has been destroyed at least twice, besieged 23 times, attacked 52 times, and captured and recaptured 44 times.

THREE Part 05: Neighbors: Muslims, Jews and Christians

Walk with us on a visit through the streets of Jerusalem. At first, the early morning is calm in the Holy Land, but then as the rush of people take to the streets in the usual busyness of life, we are left to wonder how do we sort out the confusion of what this place means?

Jerusalem and each of these three faiths of Christianity, Islam and Judaism are more complicated than we could have imagined. As we finish our journey to this conflicted city, what can we learn about both this city and our own cities. What lessons can be learned from a city that has so often been the epicenter of conflict?

Come with us on our last walk through Jerusalem as we consider what it means to be neighbors in the place city of conflict as well as in a world full of conflict.

Jerusalem: City Of Gold (Part I)

Jerusalem is the largest city in Israel. A holy city to three religions (Islam, Christianity, and Judaism), Jerusalem is one of the oldest cities in the world. The City of Gold, as it has come to be known in Hebrew, is a fascinatingly unique place where the first century rubs shoulders with the twenty-first century, each jostling for legitimacy and space, and where picturesque old neighborhoods nestle against glistening office towers and high-rise apartments. It is one of those places which has to be seen to be believed.
Located in the Judean Mountains between the Mediterranean Sea and the Dead Sea, Jerusalem is considered holy to the three major Abrahamic religions: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. It is the holiest city in Judaism and the spiritual center of the Jewish people since the 10th century BCE, the third-holiest in Islam and is also home to a number of significant and ancient Christian landmarks. It is also a city with a very violent past, as it was fiercely contested between Christianity and Islam during the brutal Crusade era. While the city has had a large Jewish majority since 1967, a wide range of national, religious, and socioeconomic groups are represented here. The walled area of Jerusalem, which until the late nineteenth century formed the entire city, is now called the Old City and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1982. It consists of four ethnic and religious sections — the Armenian, Christian, Jewish, and Muslim Quarters. Barely one square kilometer, the Old City is home to several of Jerusalem's most important and contested religious sites including the Western Wall and Temple Mount for Jews, the Dome of the Rock and al-Aqsa Mosque for Muslims, and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre for Christians.

Surrounding the Old City are more modern areas of Jerusalem. The civic and cultural center of modern Israel extends from western Jerusalem toward the country's other urban areas to the west, while areas populated mostly by Arabs can be found in the northern, eastern and southern districts.

Israel: Jerusalem – City of Gold

There are many reasons to visit Jerusalem – religion, history, architecture, cuisine, just to name a few. But it’s the City’s antiquity – layer upon layer of civilization – built and destroyed and built again, that renders Jerusalem so challenging and so fascinating. Our exploration of the City reveals its history from a Canaanite village over 5,000 years ago, to an important centre of the Jewish world, the impact of King Herod, the destruction by the Romans, the conquest by Muslim soldiers and its position today as a spiritual centre for Jews, Christians and Muslims. BOOKS ABOUT ISRAEL BY TODD FINK:

Israel . . . Land of the Bible . . . Land of Faith . . . the Holy Land, revered throughout recorded history as the cradle of monotheistic religion. For a person of faith whose beliefs are rooted in the Bible, there is no place on earth like the Holy Land. In this narrow strip of land lies the source of religious belief of much of mankind. Here, amongst the barren hills and fertile plains, man’s spirit learned to soar and from here a new message went out to all the world: “. . . and many peoples shall come, and say, “Come, let us go up to the Mountain of the Lord, to the House of the God of Jacob; that He may teach us His ways and that we may walk in His paths. For out of Zion (Hill next to Jerusalem) will go forth the law, and the word of the Lord from Jerusalem (Isaiah 2:3,4).
The unique factor about the Holy Land is its special location in the World. Situated as it is, straddling the divide between Africa and Asia, the area has almost always been a battleground. Wave after wave of conquerors poured into it, anxious to control the strategic trade routes linking the centers of the ancient world. It’s not by accident that it’s virtually in the center of the world. In God’s master plan of creation, He decided to place Israel exactly in the center of His creation. Located on a tiny land bridge between Africa and Asia, there is no other way to get between the two of them except through Israel. It’s located on the crossroads of the world. Whoever wanted to trade between the two continents, or control the known world, had to conquer and control Israel. For this reason, there have been more wars and events that have taken place in Israel than any other country on earth. God positioned Israel in its unique location in order to influence the world and be on “Center Stage” so all of creation would know that He alone is God.
For nearly 2,000 years, Christian visitors from all over the world have come to the Holy Land, the land of their spiritual heritage. With Bible in hand, they have walked the places Jesus walked and prayed in the places He preached and prayed. For Christians, Israel is a place like no other. It provides them a one of a kind opportunity to experience the land of the Bible, to deepen their faith, and to be spiritually transformed for a lifetime.

The Churches of Jerusalem

Though there are many sacred sites peppered around Israel, Jerusalem has a magic no other place can produce. Jerusalem is home to beautiful churches and other sacred and historical sites.

Israel has more than a million specifically Christian visitors each year. Many of them spend most of their time in Jerusalem -- where pilgrims from all sects of Christianity can pray at the city's sacred sites.
One of the churches that stand out is the gold topped Church of Mary Magdalene -- a distinctive Jerusalem landmark on the Mount of Olives.

There's also the Church of All Nations, located at the foot of the Mount of Olives next to the Garden of Gethsemane. According to Catholicism, a section of stone in the Garden of Gethsemane is believed to be where Jesus prayed on the night of his arrest. Protestants, however, believe this to be the site of Jesus's crucifixion.

Above all, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in the Old City, attracts the bulk of tourists. Within the walls of this enormous church it is believed that Jesus was stripped of his clothes, nailed to the cross, crucified, and buried. The energy in this church is exciting even for non-believers.

In addition to their historical significance, many of the churches are architecturally interesting as well. Visitors will delight in the Gothic-style stained glass windows, the 19th century mosaics, and the structural design of the churches.

Pope Francis visits major sites in Jerusalem

The second day of Pope Francis' visit in Israel began with a meeting with the Grand Mufti of Jerusalem and Muslim leaders on the Temple Mount.

The Pope then visited the Western Wall in Jerusalem's Old City, where he prayed and placed a note between the stones of the wall.

Following the visit to the Old City of Jerusalem, the Pope continued to Mt. Herzl where he lay a wreath at the grave of Theodor Herzl, the visionary founder of Zionism.
