Welcome to another episode of Chopstick Travel. Today we take you on the ultimate street food tour through the Holy city of Old Jerusalem, within the city walls only. Old Jerusalem is an ancient area, and is packed with street foods, teas & coffee, fresh produce, historic and religious relics and endless sightseeing opportunities.

We take you to eat some delicious Palestinian food all around the city, starting with the simple Za’atar bread. Next we locate some spiced lamb kebabs, cooked fresh over fire. And to wash down the kebabs, a delicious & cheap hummus! We then find a bizarre yellow sweet, called date bread, as a dessert. After, we head to a famous Palestinian spice shop, where you tell them exactly what you’re going to cook, and they create the perfect spice blend for you. We picked up local spices - za’atar and sumac, as well as a special spice concoction. Next, we take a short break with some street side Arabic coffee, spiced with cardamon. We decide to do some sightseeing to digest some food. Our first sight was a short stop to the Western Wall. Then we visit an ancient sweet shop, over 150 years old for mutabak. We then visit the next sight - the Dome of the Rock, and then the Church of the Holy Sepulchre. To end our insane day of eating street food inside the old city, we pick up a pomegranate/orange juice, freshly pressed, and head to a small shop selling kanefe.

All shops, restaurants and sights are located within the city walls. There aren’t addresses, but using Google Maps, you can type in the name of the shop and it will give you an approximate location. A better option, ask shop owners inside the Old City. They give great directions. Here are the names of the shops/approximate locations:

- Za’atar bread - NEAR DAMASCUS GATE ENTRANCE

- Lamb kebabs - ON SHUK HA-TSORFIM ST. (also near Shaheen Kebab)

- Hummus - ARAFAT HUMMUS

- Date bread - NEXT TO ARAFAT HUMMUS

- Spices - SEA OF HERBS JERUSALEM

- Arabic Coffee - can be found all around the Old City

- Sight #1 - THE WESTERN WALL

- Mutabak - ZALATIMO SWEETS (we had to ask a shop owner for directions)

- Sight #2 - DOME OF THE ROCK

- Sight #3 - CHURCH OF THE HOLY SEPULCHRE

- Pomegranate & Orange Juice - NEAR THE AUSTRIAN HOSPICE

- Kanefe & tea - CONFECTIONERY JAFAR

Jerusalem's Old City: Ultimate Street Food Heaven ????????

Hey guys!!! I started my first full day in Jerusalem with a market hunt in the old city of Jerusalem. After entering the old city from the Jaffa Gate which is practically the entrance gate to the Armenian Quarter I started exploring the old city. After visiting the Armenian and Jewish Quarter I visited the Muslim Quarter. I've heard from a couple of people that the food in the Muslim Quarter is the best and also the cheapest - and this is totally the case. While strolling through the Muslim Quarter I bumped into my friend Basir. After that I tried some of the street food spots in the Muslim Quarter and I had a falafel sandwich and some kind of Israelin Pizza. Especially in the Old City is so much to see and to taste - it's incredible. Anyway I do not want to spoil too much, just watch the video and enjoy!

Tel Aviv is a bustling, young city with a food scene heavily influenced by the countries that surround it, as well as a focus of vegetarian/vegan food. In this episode, we partnered with Delicious Israel to learn about the origin of the food, the fresh ingredients used and the best places to find them. Inbal, the founder of Delicious Israel, showed us all around the Carmel Market, and located some AWESOME street food & hidden gems inside. Thank you Inbal and Delicious Israel! To connect with the DELICIOUS ISRAEL team and arrange your food tour, click the links below:

We started our day with Sabich for breakfast, a very popular street food you can eat almost any time of the day (so healthy!), and then a Turkish dessert, Malebi with Arabic coffee. Then, we enter the Carmel Market to sample some local spices and enjoy two types of hummus. Next, Inbal takes us to a local kitchen to eat Yemini food, a bread that is fried with egg and with hummus and zhug (SPICY!). We then try Syrian cookies, and stopped by a stall making fresh pitas. We end the day with a fresh, street-side falafel. All food featured in this video was paid for in full by us.

The Ultimate JERUSALEM ISRAELI STREET FOOD TOUR in Machane Yehuda Market

I never felt like I deserved to go to Jerusalem. It’s a city that in my imagination oozes religiosity. Only those who said “Next year in Jerusalem” and meant it ought to go. Or perhaps anyone with deep ancestral roots in the area, ranging from the various groups of Arabs and Jews who’ve seen the likes of the Ottomans, Brits, and Jordanians come and go.

In general, I’m talking about people for whom Jerusalem means something more than a place to grab some humble brag shots for social media. Not some American shmendrik who’s about as pious as the village idiot from Chelm.

Although I forced myself to the sights, like The Wailing Wall with the Dome of the Rock glistening in the background, I can’t say it sparked a spiritual revolution within. I actually felt a little guilty. This is something many of my ancestors would’ve been incredibly moved to see for themselves. As far as I know, I’m the first in my line to have seen this place in presumably thousands of years. Yet there I was, feeling like I stole some teenage girl’s front-row seats to a Billie Eilish concert.

But what did light up my soul was eating in Jerusalem. Joel Haber shows us the way.

Journey Through Palestine - Travel Documentary

Palestine means a lot of different things to many people, and may not be the most obvious travel destination. It is often associated with conflict and political unrest, overlooking the fact that it’s also a beautiful and fascinating region, with a vibrant culture, incredible historic landmarks, spectacular natural scenery, inspiring religious sites, tasty food, and friendly, welcoming people.

On this journey, I’m traveling through the Holy Land, a region important to the three main monotheistic religions, and known today as Israel and Palestine.

In this first episode, I’m exploring the West Bank, the largest and most accessible part of Palestine. From stunning natural scenery to intriguing historic sites. From the busy streets of Ramallah to the narrow alleyways of Nablus’ old city. From religious landmarks in Hebron and Bethlehem to the ancient ruins of Jericho. Along the way, I meet some of the people that call this land home, and sample the local cuisine.

I’ll do so from a traveler’s perspective, focusing on the positive stories and things to do. But here and there I also mention the conflict between Israel and Palestine, since it has impacted the lives of many people in the region. For those interested in the politics and modern history of the region, however, I recommend to read, watch, and listen to as many different sources as you can.

This is my first long trip after the pandemic started, and I’m grateful for the chance to travel again. It’s also my second visit to the region. While much of the footage is from the end of 2021 (including the ‘vlog style’ parts), I’ll also use some background material from 5 years earlier.

Here’s a brief overview of the content in this video:

We start this journey in Bethlehem, the birthplace of Jesus Christ, with its impressive Church of the Nativity at its core. After visiting the church, I explore the streets around it, meeting people and eating food in the bustling bazaar. There are many other places worth your time in and around Bethlehem, including the Milk Grotto, an olive oil factory (press), Shepherd’s Fields, and the Mar Saba monastery, surrounded by arid mountains.

Hebron is the next stop, a city in the South of Palestine, and (among other things) famous for its glassblowing factories, and also the Tomb of the Patriarch, or Ibrahimi Mosque. The streets around this place are divided between the local Palestinian community and Israeli settlers. As a tourist, you can visit both areas. At the end of the day, my guide Salwa takes me to a traditional Palestinian restaurant, where we eat some delicious food.

We continue this trip in Jericho, regarded as the oldest city in the world. Located next to the Dead Sea, it’s also one of the lowest cities on our planet, and can get very hot in Summer. Other sights to visit around Jericho include the Dead Sea, Nabi Musa, Qasr-al-Yahud, and St George’s Monastery, built into a cliff in Wadi Qelt.

Getting lost in the narrow alleys of Nablus’ old city was among my favorite things to do. There’s a surprise waiting for you around every corner, and perhaps the best one was the Al Aqsa kunafeh store, which is said to make the best version of this Palestinian dessert, which is popular around the Middle East.

We finish this journey in Ramallah, a young and dynamic city, attracting people from around the region to find work and get educated. It’s a commercial hub with a strong entrepreneurial spirit, and provides a different perspective on this part of Palestine.

The Holiest City in the World: Jerusalem ???????? And Street Food at its Finest ???? | VLOG 12

Having been to Jerusalem we have to say that this city offers quite a lot! We are both not very religious but enjoyed learning about this place nonetheless.

We gained a lot of knowledge about this city because we did this amazing free walking tour (IMPORTANT: it's not really free - they want a small fee/donation at the end, but we were completely fine with that). We can highly recommend Sandemans Free Tour of Jerusalem:

The evenings we mostly spent in the awesome Mahane Yehuda Market. You will find there the best local Street food! There is something for every taste. We especially enjoyed Malawach (wrap with lots of toppings) of Jachnun Bar. This dish is unbeatable! ????Try it!
