Atomic bomb dome Hiroshima Japan

At 8:15am on 6th August 1945, the first atomic bomb in human history was dropped on Hiroshima. Although, the Atomic Bomb Dome was located almost directly underneath the explosion, it somehow avoided complete destruction and the remains of the building still stand today. The residents of Hiroshima decided to keep this tragic reminder of war intact. The site was designated as a World Heritage Site in 1996. Visit the Atomic Bomb Dome, the Cenotaph for Atomic Bomb Victims and the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum to gain a deeper understanding of the suffering caused by war and nuclear weapons and the true value of peace.

Why You Should Visit Hiroshima When You Go to Japan.

Welcome to Hiroshima. Hiroshima was the biggest surprise of our trip to Japan - in this video, we show you exactly why. The first part of the video is all about the city's past and its role as the first city in history to experience the devastating impact of an atomic bomb. We'll take you on a tour of some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park and Museum, the Atomic Bomb Dome and Ground Zero. We'll also talk about the meaning behind some of Hiroshima's most iconic monuments and sculptures, including the Bell of Peace, the Flame of Peace and the Children's Peace Monument. The first part of the video is not easy to watch but we hope it helps to inspire you to visit this amazing city.

The second part of the video is way more light-hearted. We were here right before Christmas and were treated to the most beautiful Christmas lights show. Hiroshima during Christmas is just stunning! We also had amazing food here (including the traditional okonomiyaki). We just wish we had had more time to explore the Hiroshima castle and visit the gardens. But we'll definitely come back for more.

It's an honour to share the beauty of Hiroshima and hope that you too, one day, can experience this city's unique culture and history for yourself.

In the next episode, we're taking a ferry to the beautiful Miyajima Island. We'll sample local cuisine, browse traditional markets, and experience momiji at its best. ???? ???? See you there!

touring a Japanese flat/apartment in Hiroshima, Japan.

This place was probably the best/nicest place that we flat/apartment during our 27 nights in Japan. It's located in Hiroshima and we stayed there for 5 of our 8 nights in the Hiroshima area. Liza particularly loved the very local Costco.

BTW: I make most of these videos for my very-best friend, Liza. We normally have a long-distance relationship and me making these videos and she watching them, sort of helps being apart. That's why you might hear me say words like feasts/honey/naj/najma/pencinta/sweetheart/similar.

Sunset & Peace in Hiroshima - Hiroshima Castle, A-Bomb Dome, Peace Memorial Park 4K Walking in Japan

A sunset walk around downtown Hiroshima. I visited Hiroshima Castle, walking past the Prefectural Sports Center, the Museum of Art, along the river to the A-Bomb Dome (Genbaku Dome), into the Peace Memorial Park, finishing at the Cenotaph Memorial. Filmed on September 4 2022, filmed in 4K on DJI Osmo Pocket.

Hiroshima Castle (also know as the Carp Castle Rijo) was originally built in the 1590s, until its destruction in 1945 from the atomic bomb, the hypocentre of which was 1km away. It was rebuilt in 1958 and now houses a museum of pre-war history.

The A-Bomb dome (or Genbaku Dome) is a living memorial to the atomic bombing, and was one of the few buildings to survive close to the hypocentre, only 200m away. All people in the building were killed instantly.

The strong stone and steel structure remained standing, since its proximity to the hypocentre meant most of the bomb's force was downwards rather than more destructive horizontal shear forces. The steel frame of the dome was squashed from above, but the main structure is preserved as it was after the bombing.

The building is preserved as a reminder of the bombing and a message of nuclear disarmament. It was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996, along with various other sites in the Peace Memorial Park.

Other monuments in the park shown in the video is the Monument for Mobilized Students, the Children's Peace Monument, the Peace Flame, and the Memorial Cenotaph. Also pictured is the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, recently renovated in 2019.

I tried to add more information subtitles to this video than I have before, so I hope you find them interesting and useful.

If you have any requests for new walking locations, let me know!

Anyone still looking for ways to keep on top of important information coming out of Japan about the March 11 earthquake and tsunami now has a central hub to consult, in the shape of a dedicated page from the Google Crisis Response project.
The resources listed include the Person Finder we've seen before, links to the latest information from the domestic utilities, such as Tokyo Electric (TEPCO), government agencies, and a comprehensive list of transit providers.
Many of those are pre-formatted to serve up Japanese pages in machine-translated English, but there's also a full ranzge of information for native speakers of Japanese.
Likely the most useful among these are the missing persons phone lines for the various parts of Tohoku affected by the twin disasters, while there are also continuously updating scanned photos of the resident lists in the various shelters for people displaced from their homes.
Lastly, this being a service from one of the web's heaviest hitters, there are also real time updates from Google News and Twitter.

Read more: Google swings into action with earthquake crisis response hub | CNNGo.com

Amid the horrific stories of death and destruction surrounding the March 11 earthquake and tsunami in the Tohoku region, there's still room for the occasional wry smile, such as the one surely engendered by the news of 240 refugees taking shelter in, of all places, a nuclear power plant.
The group of men, women and children from Onagawa in Miyagi Prefecture has been holed up in the plant since the tsunami hit, seemingly killing over 1,000 of the town's 10,000 population.
The irony of the nature of their refuge clearly isn't lost on the temporary residents, as the nuclear accident at Fukushima Daiichi power plant 120 kilometers away plays out daily on their televisions.
The electricity to power the sets, incidentally, comes direct from the regional power grid to which the Onagawa plant is attached. The facility is run by Tohoku Electric Power, a separate entity from Tokyo Electric Power, or TEPCO, the operator in charge of Fukushima.
As the group shelters in the employee gym, right next door to the reactors, the good fortune of the survivors is clear.
One man, sheltering with his family said: It's pretty spread out. People are just kind of lying around and relaxing. There are a lot of aftershocks, but it's safe.
Meanwhile, an older woman settled on a more prosaic object of gratitude: It's very clean inside. We have electricity and nice toilets.
