Beautiful Kintaikyo bridge in Iwakuni

Kintaikyo bridge is unique and beautiful with magenda Nishiki river, located in Iwakuni city, an hour from Hiroshima station by train. I swam in the river just below the bridge when I was a child. There are stands selling many kinds of icecream! You can also climb up to the Iwakuni castle at the top of the mountain by cable car. Enjoy!

Iwakuni - Japan - Kintaikyo bridge. [1080p HD]

Day 14.03.2012.
The town of Iwakuni's main draw is the elegant Kintaikyo, or brokade sash bridge. The original structure, built in 1673, was destoyed by typhoon in 1953. Rebuilt in an almost exact replica of original, the bridge depends on firstrate joinery ( no nails are used). Afternoon and evening shots made with Canon 5D MII. Video rendered from these shots. It features high resolution photos + motion in frame.

Yamaguchi Kintai Bridge - 錦帯橋 - 4K Ultra HD

Yamaguchi Kintai Bridge - 錦帯橋 - 4K Ultra HD : The Kintai-kyo Bridge has been Iwakuni's most distinctive landmark since its construction in 1673. Entirely made of wood, and this without the use of any nails, the Kintai bridge is composed of five arches sitting on top of massive stones pillars crossing over the Nishiki river and located on the foot of Mt. Yokoyama where Iwakuni castle is situated.

In fact it was only after the construction of the Iwakuni Castle, completed in 1608, that the first lord of Iwakuni domain, Kikkawa Hiroie, started the construction of a series of wooden bridges. Unsuccessful until 1673, with most of the bridges were destroyed by floods, it was under the order of the third lord of the Iwakuni domain, Kikkawa Hiroyoshi, that the actual Kintai bridge was built. This time it involved a revolutionary new design where stone piers would replace wooden ones alongside a greater series of wooden arches.

Exploring One of Japan's Most Beautiful Wooden Bridges | A Fun Day Out in Iwakuni, Japan

Iwakuni is about a 45-minute train ride from Hiroshima, Japan. The most popular sightseeing spot there is the Kintai Bridge, or Kintai-kyō. This wooden, hump-back bridge was first built hundreds of years ago. I explored the bridge and many other nearby attractions, including the ropeway, Iwakuni castle and a white snake museum. Of course, I also stopped off a few times for some very tasty food!

Iwakuni is an amazing little town. We start the day at its star attraction, a very unique bridge called Kintaikyo Bridge. It's much steeper in person, and the woodwork is beautiful. We probably spent more time there than we should have! Then we unexpectedly encounter cherry blossoms, in OCTOBER?! How unusual! After heading up the Iwakuni Ropeway to the top of the mountain, we slowly stroll to Iwakuni Castle. Though this castle is less impressive than others we've seen, we almost have it to ourselves and it has a stunning view overlooking Iwakuni (plus Bill was able to fly our drone!). After looking around the grounds, we head to our friends' favorite sushi train restaurant, since they heard we hadn't been ton one before! This was an amazing day full of new things and blessed with friends.

IWAKUNI KINTAI BRIDGE / cherry blossoms 錦帯橋岩国市さくら

The Kintai Bridge (錦帯橋, Kintai-kyō) is a historical wooden arch bridge, in the city of Iwakuni, in Yamaguchi Prefecture, Japan.

The pedestrian bridge was built in 1673, spanning the Nishiki River in a series of five wooden arches. The bridge is located on the foot of Mt.Yokoyama, at the top of which lies Iwakuni Castle.

Kikkou Park, which includes the bridge and castle, is a popular tourist destination in Japan, particularly during the Cherry blossom festival in the spring and the autumn color change of the Japanese maples (momiji). It was declared a National Treasure in 1922.

Kintaikyo, Iwakuni Japan, and the legend of Sasaki Kojiro

In the Japanese town of Iwakuni, you might come across an impressive statue of a swordsman in one of its largest and most popular parks. The statue carries with it an interesting bit of martial arts history associated with this town that I wanted to try and introduce you to here. It is a representation and tribute to the famed Sasaki Kojiro and this is a brief synopses of his connection to this city. While some of the details of my run-down are undoubtedly in dispute (the sources vary wildly in the details as this goes back the the dawn of the Tokugawa era when records were unreliable at best), I tried to present all the information as I have personally learned it. More resources are listed below. I hope you enjoy and as always, let me know if there is anything else I can help with!
