JA733J was delivered to JAL in 2005.
We booked Sky Suites on this 14.5 hour flight for just $461 and 75,000 Citi ThankYou® Points (each).
It's Halloween and the gate crew are dressed for the occasion.
With biometric boarding, your face is your boarding pass! It uses facial recognition software to authenticate your identity.
Fun Fact: In June, 2021, JAL conducted the first flight in the world to use biofuel derived from gasified wood chips and the first to mix two different types of biofuels.
Suites on the aisles have less privacy, but they have a bit more storage space next to the seat. Suites that are not on the aisle have more privacy, but you'll need to squeeze through a narrow passage. Suites not on the aisles also have a rather awkward storage space behind their seats.
The BEDD menu is not just for the bed. The extra D in the spelling stands for Dine, Delicious and Dreams.
The 23-inch LCD monitor is one of the largest in its class.
JAL call has what they call their Cardigan Lending Service to keep you warm and comfy during the flight.
JAL has a rather boring safety video (compared to some others).
I'm amazed that just two of these massive GE90-115B engines will fly us 14.5 hours all the way to Japan.
The takeoff is nice, but wait until you see our landing (at sunset) in Tokyo.
We chased the sun all flight long and didn't see the sunset until we landed.
#1 said she did not want any bread, so they brought her some Scoops!
Smart idea: passengers can't pocket your cute salt and pepper shakers if you serve them salt and pepper in small, open bowels.
I wish all airlines provided a mattress pad. This was a very comfortable sleep.
More Fun Facts: Mount Fuji is an active stratovolcano located on the Japanese island of Honshū. It is the tallest mountain in Japan and last erupted from 1707 to 1708.
I actually booked these seats almost a year in advance. First, I checked fares for business class seats. Yikes! Nearly seven grand?! I don't think so.
Next, I checked if there were any award seats. I knew I could book JAL award seats on
Cathay Pacific's site, so that's where I went next. Wow! Just 75,000 miles! (And, $461 in fees).
That sure seemed like a good deal, but just to confirm, I went to milesvscash.com and plugged in the numbers.
Confirmed! Much better idea to use my points than to buy a revenue fare.
Next, I just transferred Citi ThankYou points to my newly created Cathay Pacific account. Within hours, I received confirmation that we did indeed have two Sky Suites to Tokyo!
IFE? We were disappointed in the thin selection of movies.

Japan Airlines is a Skytrax 5-Star Airline, and rightfully so. I really enjoyed my 13-hour flight with them across the Pacific to Tokyo. Comfortable seats, friendly flight attendants, and restaurant quality meals at 30,000 feet.
What I liked:
The Catering - The catering and food were the clear winner of this flight. The meals were served beautifully and they tasted fresh and delicious. I also love the dine on demand service.
The Friendly Service - The in-flight service from the crew was very quick, efficient, and most importantly friendly with a smile.
The seats - JAL has the Apex Suite for their business class seats laid out in a 2-3-2 configuration. Despite the dense abreast layout, these seats are very comfortable for lounging, and sleeping and all business class seats, including the middle seats have direct aisle access.
What I didn’t like:
Long Security Lines at JFK- JFK is well-known for having long wait times at security, and this trip was no different. The security line was very long and very disorganized. We had to wait over 40 minutes just to get through.
No Personal Air Nozzles - Sadly this aircraft was not fitted with personal air nozzles. Good thing they kept the cabin temperature cool during the flight.
The IFE - The IFE offered plenty of content, but I just wasn't a fan of having the browse through all the content using the tiny remote instead of the big screen.
It’s fine...
The Lufthansa Senator Lounge at JFK - Our Oneworld Emerald status gained us access to the Lufthansa Senator lounge at JFK, which supposedly offers enhanced food and beverage options. The lounge is rather small with limited seating, and the food and drink selections were rather forgettable.
The Amenities – JAL does not do pajamas in business class, but they do offer slippers and loaner cardigans. The Sony noise canceling headphones is not the best, but sound quality was acceptable. The maison kitsune amenity kit was a bit basic though.
Overall impression:
I love Japan Airlines! They're not as overrated as Cathay Pacific, or as blingy and opulent as Qatar or Emirates, but the certainly offer a solid business class product.
The Apex suite seats are one of the highly praised seats in the industry. Pair that with great hospitality, and delicious restaurant quality food and you have awesome flight. Great job, JAL! Can't wait for the next flight with you!

NEW Japan Airlines First Class JAL A350-1000 Tokyo to New York JFK - MAGICAL
*TURN ON THE SUBTITLES* I was lucky enough to try Japan Airlines' brand new First Class suites on their new A350-1000 on the way back from Tokyo Haneda to New York JFK. It's was a magical trip from start to finish. While I loved the business class on the way there JAL's new First Class sets the bar very high. Their service was incredible, the crew was one of the best I've ever had on a plane, and the food was delicious. The new suites are, in my opinion, the best first class seats out there. I liked them better than the Emirates' Game Change 777 First Class seats.

I was very impressed with the inaugural ceremony, JAL's newest international long-haul seats, great service, and excellent food. Special occasion is worthy of special experience. I chose to celebrate my 20th birthday onboard Japan Airlines' first class while en route from Tokyo to New York.
This 12 hours transpacific is unlike any other flights I had taken. The celebratory spirit began the moment I arrived at the airport and was ensued by a cake presentation in the lounge as well as a full celebratory activity once airborne. The impeccable hospitality of Japan Airlines' staff extends from the ground onto 35,000 feet and through collective effort, made my birthday flight a seamless and cheerful one.
Japan Airlines' first class product is a competitive way to cross the Pacific ocean partly because of its easy accessibility using Alaska miles. In addition, flying on JAL is every foodie's dream. I had the pleasure to sample dishes from three Michelin three starred restaurants while onboard and that breaks my personal record of collecting six stars in a day.

Japan Airlines New Flagship A350-1000 Delivery
Japan Airlines (JAL) has taken delivery of its first A350-1000 from Airbus’ delivery center in Toulouse, France. The A350-1000 is set to become the airline’s new international aircraft, I toured their new flagship aircraft.
Before the delivery ceremony, I visited the Airbus Final Assembly Line (FAL) of the A350 with a quick look at the production of the A350. This was followed by the delivery ceremony which showcased the new Japan Airlines A350-1000.
In First Class, the new seating arrangement features 6 suites. Just 3 suites per row in a 1-1-1 configuration, each First Class suite features a double seat and bed. In Business Class, there are 54 private suites with doors, and the seat can convert into a bed of 198cm long.
The Premium Economy cabin (24 seats) features large partitions to improve privacy significantly. It is also the first Premium Economy Class in the world to introduce electrically operated recline functionality. JAL A350-1000 has one of the most spacious legrooms in Economy Class (33-34 inches pitch).
Japan Airlines A350-1000 will be initially flying on the Tokyo Haneda - New York JFK route. It has a total of 13 A350-1000 on order to replace the B777-300/ER fleet.

I flew with Japan Airlines Boeing 777-300ER in JAL SKY SUITE Business Class from Tokyo Narita Airport to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport.
The JAL B777-300ER seat type is known as the 'Apex Suites', every suite offers direct aisle access. The seat was great, the meal quality was also nice. The cabin crew was pretty awesome and attentive. It was a very pleasant experience!
