Tivoli, Italy [Amazing Places 4K]

Two exceptional UNESCO World Heritage sites in Tivoli, near Rome, Italy: Hadrian's Villa and Villa d'Este.

Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana), was a retreat for the Roman Emperor Hadrian. it is an exceptional complex of classical buildings created in the 2nd century A.D. by the Roman emperor Hadrian. It combines the best elements of the architectural heritage of Egypt, Greece and Rome in the form of an 'ideal city'. (whc.unesco.org/en/list/907)

The Villa d'Este is one of the most remarkable and comprehensive illustrations of Renaissance culture at its most refined. Its innovative design along with the architectural components in the garden (fountains, ornamental basins, etc.) make this a unique example of an Italian 16th-century garden. The Villa d'Este, one of the first giardini delle meraviglie , was an early model for the development of European gardens. (whc.unesco.org/en/list/1025)

Villa Gregoriana was commissioned by Pope Gregory XVI in 1835. It was submitted for consideration as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Recorded October 2017 in 4K Ultra HD with Sony AX100.

Caserta Royal Palace and Park, Italy - World Heritage Journeys

Combining the influences of Versailles, Rome, and Tuscany, the Caserta Royal Palace and Park, north of Naples, was designed according to the wishes of Charles of Bourbon III by Luigi Vanvitelli, one of the greatest Italian architects of the 18th century. Caserta is considered a triumph of Italian Baroque, and ahead of its time. Expanding across 11 acres, the garden's pools, fountains and cascades are aligned through a 'telescope effect', extending as far as the eye can see.

Inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997 — 18th-Century Royal Palace at Caserta with the Park, the Aqueduct of Vanvitelli, and the San Leucio Complex — and nearby towns and attractions are well worth a visit if you are in Campania or anywhere near Naples.

Day Trip to Tivoli, Italy

With its cool climate and plentiful springs, the town of Tivoli has been a popular retreat for Roman elites since ancient times. To get an idea of what near-limitless wealth could get you during two very different eras, we recommend visiting the town’s two UNESCO-listed villas, Villa d’Este and Hadrian’s Villa. Occasional seat of power at the height of the Roman empire, Hadrian’s Villa housed several thousand workers amidst temples, gardens, pools, and theaters. Villa D’Este is the epitome of Renaissance architecture. Exploring its countless fountains and seemingly endless gardens is a peaceful, if awe-inspiring, experience. We offer a small group tour that takes you through the scenic countryside of Lazio to Tivoli. Explore Tivoli on a custom tour of Italy with JayWay Travel:

The Royal Palace of Caserta is the former royal residence for the Bourbon kings of Naples. It is one of the largest royal residences in the world. In 1999 it was used as the setting for Queen Amidala's palace on Naboo in the film Star Wars: Episode 1. Inside you'll find the Grand Staircase of Honour and room after room of history. Outside you'll walk a 2 mile long park surrounded by statues, trees, pools, and fountains.

Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy )

Places to see in ( Tivoli - Italy )

Tivoli is situated on the Aniene river to the east of Rome, in the Monti Tiburtini hills where the climate is fresher than Rome's. For this reason, the area was popular from ancient times onwards with Rome's moneyed classes, who built summer retreats in the area. As the town was on a major trading route from Rome to the Abruzzi, Tivoli has always been an important settlement. Modern Tivoli has around 50,000 inhabitants, and spreads out far beyond the crumblingly picturesque historical centre. In the suburb of Bagni di Tivoli, on the plains below the town centre, it is still possible to bathe in natural thermal springs. The fourth century BC town wall is still visible, as are temples from the second century BC.

There is plenty to occupy the visitor in Tivoli for a day, even if they miss out one of the two famous villas. Travellers keen to see all the sights of the area should note that the Villa Adriana is actually a bus ride outside town; and they may find their day stretched to an uncomfortable length. Some visitors choose to stay in Tivoli, away from the bustle of Rome; if you are very keen on spending a long time at the monuments, or planning to travel onwards through Italy this may be an option worth considering.

The Renaissance Villa d'Este was built in the 1550s for Cardinal Ippolito d'Este, the son of Lucretia Borgia. Built over a Benedictine convent, the palace was intended for entertaining and contains lavishly frescoed reception rooms. The main attraction for visitors, however, is the breathtaking garden. Designed to impress the Cardinal's guests, the Villa d'Este's gardens are composed almost exclusively of water features. Fountains of every description dazzle the onlooker, from the grand 'Fountain of the Dragons' and 'Hundred Fountains', to a miniature watery reproduction of Rome. The centrepiece, the gigantic Water Organ Fountain, cascades down a huge drop into quiet, shady pools.

For those with an interest in antiquities, the Villa Adriana is worth a day to itself. The Emperor Hadrian conceived a countryside dwelling here that would by normal standards be considered a town. A gigantic complex with underground service passages big enough for vehicles (tantalising glimpses are still visible), the Villa incorporates lakes, fountains, libraries, baths, temples and gardens. The area covered is staggering, and highly confusing even when armed with a map; it's easy to imagine the emperor himself asking for directions.

Villa Gregoriana is an impressive park set in a gorge with a 100m waterfall. The site has recently reopened to the public after restoration by the FAI (Italy's equivalent of the English National Trust, with free entry to NT members). It's a pleasant and shady place to ramble. Views over the gorge can be enjoyed from the Ponte Gregoriano.

Temple of Vesta and Temple of the Sybil - the characteristic round Temple of Vesta occupies a panoramic position above the valley of the Villa Gregoriana, about ten minutes' walk from the Villa d'Este. Ponte Gregoriano - there was a devastating flood in the 1800s; afterwards the river was diverted and this bridge was built. Tivoli Tourist Information Office is in Piazza Garibaldi close to the main bus stop and the Villa d'Este. Even if it's closed, you may be able to pick up maps and information.

( Tivoli - Italy ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Tivoli . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Tivoli - Italy

BEAUTIFUL AND MYSTERIOUS, TIVOLI, LAZIO, ITALY

At first an independent ally of Rome, Tibur allied itself with the Gauls in 361 BC. Vestiges remain of its defensive walls of this period, in opus quadratum. In 338 BC, however, Tibur was defeated and absorbed by the Romans. The city acquired Roman citizenship in 90 BC and became a resort area famed for its beauty and its good water, and was enriched by many Roman villas. The most famous one, of which the ruins remain, is the Villa Adriana (Hadrian's Villa). Maecenas and Augustus also had villas at Tibur, and the poet Horace had a modest villa: he and Catullus and Statius all mention Tibur in their poems. In 273, Zenobia, the captive queen of Palmyra, was assigned a residence here by the Emperor Aurelian. The 2nd-century temple of Hercules Victor is being excavated. The present Piazza del Duomo occupies the Roman forum.

Waterfalls of Tivoli, Christian Wilhelm Ernst Dietrich, 1745–1750
The name of the city came to be used in diminutive form as Tiburi instead of Tibur and so transformed through Tibori to Tiboli and finally to Tivoli.[citation needed] But its inhabitants are still called Tiburtini and not Tivolesi.

In 547, in the course of the Gothic War, the city was fortified by the Byzantine general Belisarius, but was later destroyed by Totila's army. After the end of the war it became a Byzantine duchy, later absorbed into the Patrimony of St. Peter. After Italy was conquered by Charlemagne, Tivoli was under the authority of a count, representing the emperor.
From the 10th century onwards, Tivoli, as an independent commune governed by its elected consuls, was the fiercest rival of Rome in the struggle for the control over the impoverished central Lazio. Emperor Otto III conquered it in 1001, and Tivoli fell under the papal control. Tivoli however managed to keep a level of independence until the 15th century: symbols of the city's strength were the Palace of Arengo, the Torre del Comune and the church of St. Michael, all built in this period, as well as the new line of walls (authorized in 1155), needed to house the increasing population. Reminders of the internal turbulence of communal life are the tower houses that may be seen in Vicolo dei Ferri, Via di Postera, Via del Seminario and Via del Colle.

In the 13th century Rome imposed a tribute on the city, and gave itself the right to appoint a count to govern it in conjunction with the local consuls. In the 14th century Tivoli sided with the Guelphs and strongly supported Urban VI against Antipope Clement VII. King Ladislaus of Sicily was twice repulsed from the city, as was the famous condottiero Braccio da Montone.

In the city there was also a Jewish community
