Isle of Pines, New Caledonia, October 2013

My wife and I spent a week on the Isle of Pines on a recent 1.5 week trip to New Caledonia. The scenery was stunning and the snorkelling was fantastic!

Isle of Pines in NEW CALEDONIA...

Sum vids frm our cruise June 2013...

Come and Explore! - Isle of Pines, New Caledonia!

Another in the Pacific Pearl series of cruising videos we've produced while on a 9-night cruise to Vanuatu and New Caledonia in the South Pacific Ocean, with P&O Australia.

We were on board MS Pacific Pearl, 8th to 17th of January 2013. From our viewpoint, Isle of Pines in French New Caledonia is clearly the ''Jewel in the Crown, the prettiest place in the South Pacific that we were to see and explore.

Take a look at this film clip, and I am sure you will agree that the Isle of Pines is a must-see location if you are into cruising. And in 2013, who isn't? Cruising is surely the fastest growing holiday mode worldwide at the present moment! Isle of Pines has a small wharf, but it is not capable of taking cruise ships, merely the smaller dedicated tender boats that double also as lifeboats, that cruise ships use to ferry passengers to and from shore at locations without the larger required passenger wharves. So, as happens at Mystery Island Vanuatu, passengers from cruise ships are tendered ashore and at day's end back on board at Isle of Pines, using a shuttle-service of the three or four tenders from the cruise ships. In most cases they co-ordinate their operations on marine vhf channel 69, simplex frequency 156.475 MHz. The tender operations are indeed very professionally run. Every crew member is very skilled at his or her role, and the whole operation is carried out like clockwork. The crews always impress!

Our film was shot using Canon professional HD camera equipment in full HD 1080p. Cinematography & Editing by Bob Bell. Music by Don Taylor-Varrion Ltd. - Copyright 2004-2013.

New Caledonia - Isle Of Pines

Ile Des Pins (Isle of Pines) New Caledonia

L'Île-des-Pins is a commune in the South Province of New Caledonia, an overseas territory of France in the Pacific Ocean. L'Île-des-Pins is made up of the Isle of Pines, the smaller Kôtomo Island, and several islets around these two, as well as the distant island of Walpole. The Isle of Pines and adjacent islands are located to the south of New Caledonia's mainland. The settlement of Vao, on the Isle of Pines, is the administrative centre of the commune of L'Île-des-Pins.
L'Île-des-Pins is one of the main tourist attractions in New Caledonia. The Isle of Pines itself is nicknamed l'île la plus proche du paradis (the closest island to Paradise). It is renowned for the intense blue colors of its waters and for the ancient pine tree groves spread throughout the Isle of Pines and the neighboring islands.
After the Paris Commune (1871), about 2,800 Parisian insurgents were deported to L'Île-des-Pins, a part of whose territory was turned into a penal settlement where the convicts lived for several years. The old prison is captured in this video.

Isle of Pines's views New Caledonia

No stress, no night life, a relaxed pace and with time of little significance ... that's island life, island time !

Forget your usual ways and the demands of a busy existence, let yourself be part of an unhurried world, surrounded by natural beauty - your stay will be refreshing and memorable.

To be kind to yourself and make the most of Isle of Pines, you should consider staying at least 3 days.

If you like discovering nature, taking long walks, swimming, snorkelling, diving, meeting local people or simply lying on magnificent, deserted, white sand beaches, then you could easily spend 5 to 10 days here and still find plenty to do.

Isle of Pines New Caledonia

A beautiful tropical paradise. I have been fortunate enough to visit this island 3 times in as many years on the South Pacific cruises that come out of Brisbane and Sydney. Love this place. Favourite beach is next to Sacred Rock. No-one is allowed to touch the rock so please respect the local culture and don't :-)

Thanks for watching
