Cab Rides - The Snaefell Mountain Railway
The Snaefell Mountain Railway climbs nearly 2,000 feet from the fishing village of Laxey to the Summit of the Isle of Man's highest mountain, Snaefell. It was built to carry Victorian tourists on a spectacular trip to enjoy the beautiful vistas of the island and the Irish Sea. We've a crystal clear day for our journey, ad the five cameras let us see everything that's going on. Full commentary explains what's going on around us and inside this original Victorian electric tram.

Exploring the Isle of Man: The Manx Electric Railway & The Snaefell Mountain Railway.
In part one of this two-part series, I'm taking the Manx Electric Railway from Douglas to Laxey where I'll change trams onto the Snaefell Mountain Railway for a trip up to the famous summit. On the way, I'll tell you all about the trams and show you some of the scenery as we overcome a temporary breakdown, cloudy weather and railway closures I should have known about before planning ahead.
Things don't always go to plan do they but I hope you see enough of the trams that were running to make you want to go and explore the Isle of Man yourself. I'm glad I did.

SNAEFELL MOUNTAIN RAILWAY IoM electric excursion 1965
The Manx Snaefell Mountain Railway climbs 1822 feet, 555 metres, in 4.75 miles, 7.65km, to just below the highest point of the Isle Of Man. On a clear day one can see (in order of distance) Scotland, England, Ireland and Wales.
The line is still run entirely by the same electric vehicles as at opening in 1895.
Snaefell service runs from late March to the end of October.
The proper name for the Big Wheel of Laxey is the Lady Isabella Wheel.

[Snaefell Mountain Railway]
The Isle of Man is one of the self-governing British Crown dependencies in the Irish Sea.
The Snaefell Mountain Railway climbs from Laxey to the summit of Snaefell mountain, which is the highest point of the island. This railway was built in 1895, and uses Fell System, that car grabs center rail to increase braking power.

A Tram To The Top Of A Mountain | Snaefell Mountain Railway | Isle of Man
On my recent visit to the Isle of Man I took the Snaefell Mountain Railway to the top of Snaefell, the only mountain on the Isle of Man. This half an hour journey took me from Laxey to the summit. At the top there was a cafe and great views.

Footage from the Snaefell Mountain Railway during the Isle of Man Transport's Heritage Transport Festival 2023. We see trams at Laxey, above Bungalow and at the Summit. From the summit, we look back down at tramcar 4 descending from Bungalow towards Laxey.
At Laxey we also see National Air Traffic Services Wickham's No. 3 & 4 on display, which are used by crews travelling to maintain the aerial masts at the top of Snaefell Mountain.

ISLE OF MAN | Snaefell Mountain Railway | LADY ISABELLA Great Wheel Laxey | King Orry Grave
The Snaefell Mountain Railway is a tourist line that starts from Laxey and built in 1894. It provides scenic views of the island and on a clear day across to England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland. Returning to Laxey we see the great wheel Lady Isabella built in 1854. There is also a small mine tunnel and the smaller Lady Evelyn wheel used for washing the mined ore. Finally we find King Orry's grave, the Medieval King of the Island.
