Is the Pyongyang Metro Real or Fake? You Decide.

The Pyongyang Metro (평양지하철도) is an iconic attraction most tourist groups visit during their stay in Pyongyang. The Pyongyang Metro is a living and breathing organism of the city. Although it has incredibly vibrant and charming characteristics, it can also be rather intense during peak hour with an average of 300,000 to 600,000 passengers each day. It’s certainly one of the major highlights for many foreign visitors whilst visiting North Korea.

The metro system is considered the deepest metro in the world, buried 100 meters below the surface. It consists of two lines, the Chollima line and Hyoksin line with 16 subway stations in total. It operates solely on the west side of Pyongyang – within the more developed districts. The depth of the metro helps keep the temperature to a comfortable level of 20°C (68°F) throughout the year, as the local Korean guides say “cool in summer and warm in winter”.

In August of 2017, YPT's North Korea Tours Manager Rowan Beard rode through the entire Pyongyang Metro system and captured his experience on camera. Is it real or fake? You decide!

In today's video, I share my honest thoughts with you about North Korea after 4 years since my visit... I didn't mention in the video that I am one of the very last Americans to step foot in the country because a few months after I left, all Americans were banned from visiting (which is still in effect today).

I often think about North Korea and I wanted to take this time to re-tell my story, share my thoughts, and also get some feedback from you. What are your opinions about North Korea? Would you ever visit North Korea?

This is what it's like to ride North Korea's marble-clad subway

Deep below the ground is North Korea's beautiful Pyongyang Metro, a bustling subway system where hundreds of thousands of people make their way to and from work every day. The metro is 360 feet below ground, making it one of the deepest subway systems in the world. Some of the stations are so deep, they double as bomb shelters that are protected with heavy blast doors. A ticket to travel on the Pyongyang Metro is cheap, only 5 won, which at the time of writing is about $0.004.

SECRET NORTH KOREA | YOU WON'T BELIEVE WHAT IT'S LIKE

I'm just back from North Korea - this is what it's like. Imagine living like you were on a movie set. Welcome to Pyongyang, the capital of North Korea. Imagine having to wake up everyday of your life and perform like you are on a movie set and if you don't - it could mean death?

This is real life North Korea today. I travelled to North Korea and filmed this so you can see what it's like.

Some of this footage is secretly filmed.

You'll get an idea of what it is like to travel to the most isolated country in the world. Visiting many places, including the capital Pyongyang and the poor countryside.

Please do not judge the North Korean people in this video. It is impossible to make a fully balanced view of the country by traveling there - on a controlled guided tour. This video is simply presented to give you an indication of my travel experience and my thoughts after returning.

North Korea is a unique, if not slightly weird experience. It was safer than many countries I've visited. Hopefully, this will give you another perspective on the DPRK.

Thanks for watching.

I get a lot of questions about what it's like to travel in North Korea. It's actually a very safe country to visit because you are on a tightly controlled tour and you are unable to roam around unsupervised.

As long as you can follow a few simple mandatory rules, then you will have no issues while in North Korea. In this video, I explain what are the 3 golden rules that anyone must obey (and respect) should they decide to visit the most isolated country in the world - NORTH KOREA.

'The Privileged' Store in North Korea - Part 1

====================================================
Ok, so this is my 46th video that I uploaded, many people asked me..
How could you upload youtube video in NK?.
He uploads the video after he back to Indonesia, because he didn't dare if he upload directly from NK.
Nope..that is not entirely True..

#jakaparker #northkorea #koreautara

The answer is..

I already back to Indonesia, and currently I live in Indonesia..
My first 23 videos was uploaded when I was in North Korea.

The most different thing that when I uploaded video in NK, for a 15 minute video needed two days to upload, because the internet there was unstable due to electricity on off several times in a day..I can’t subscribe for cellular internet mobile because its way too expensive and..not reliable too...
but..when in Indonesia, I can choose which provider for internet and to upload a 15 minute video need only few minutes...
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK..
back to this video..
I was going to a store which was located inside the Diplomatic Compound in Munsu District, behind Vietnam Embassy (you can check it out in Google Maps)
Sure..because these videos is about my daily life in NK...so I only posted about my routines things that I am doing in NK).

This store named Pyongyang Shop, which only several people who can access inside, only Foreigners and local Korean people who can get permission to be inside Diplomatic Compound (usually Korean people who works for foreign Organisations and embassies).

Btw.. sorry for bad English and Korean..

Any viewers who understand Korean language might be laughing hearing me trying to make conversations with the locals..please pardon me.

North Korean Subway Stations and the People That Use Them.

There's a myth the only the first two subway stations look good, but after taking it for 5 stops, I now know that there's at least 5 that are decent. I still don't know about the rest though...

This video takes you through all 5 stations, but PJ and I decided to sneak off into another car to see how locals would react to two foreigners instead of a group of them.

Propaganda video on TV | Pyongyang Airport | North Korea Tour

North Korea is known for its strict control of information and propaganda, and this extends to its video production as well. The North Korean government produces a variety of videos that aim to promote its ideologies and reinforce its message to its citizens and the world.

North Korean propaganda videos often feature images and footage of the country's leaders, including its former leader Kim Jong-il and current leader Kim Jong-un, as well as other members of the ruling party. They typically showcase the country's military might and its technological advancements, as well as its cultural and scientific achievements.

These videos are often highly stylized, with dramatic music and carefully choreographed images. They are designed to create an impression of a powerful and technologically advanced nation, and to present the North Korean government and its leaders in a positive light.

It is important to note that the content of these videos is carefully controlled and heavily censored by the North Korean government. Information that is deemed critical of the government or its policies is not allowed to be shown. As a result, these videos should not be considered an accurate representation of life in North Korea.

In conclusion, North Korean propaganda videos are a means for the government to control information and reinforce its message to its citizens and the world. These videos are carefully crafted to present a specific image of the country and its leaders, and should not be considered a reliable source of information about North Korea.
