The Uyuni salt flat also commonly known as salar de Uyuni is a less shared destination in the middle of Bolivia. I have had the Uyuni salt flat reflection on my bucket list for a couple years now, but the problem is, we visited August 2019 during dry season. Was our visit still worth it?

The LARGEST Salt Flat in the world is located next to the tiny town of Uyuni, Bolivia. After a quick stop in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, we made our way to the town of Uyuni, a remote community in the Bolivian highlands. Here, in what is classified as a cold desert, lies a natural phenomenon known as Salar de Uyuni, the Uyuni salt flats. This salt desert plain is almost 12,000 square kilometers huge, and it is truly one of the most striking places we've ever been in. We can't recommend it enough and hope you enjoy the video????

I had been looking forward to visiting Salar de Uyuni for a long time. This is the largest salt flat in the world, stretching over 10,000 square kilometer at high altitude. I was definitely not disappointed.

Uyuni Salt Flats Tour - Salar Uyuni Bolivia
The Bolivian Salt Flats just outside of Uyuni are world renowned attracting thousands of travellers every year. To cater for the hundreds of tourists there are hundreds of Salar De Uyuni Tour options.
There is the popular and more know route that you can take from Uyuni Bolivia, but there are also a few more options, Including starting in Tupiza. Tupiza to Uyuni tours is popular as you get another day through terrain that you wouldn't get from Uyuni.
There is also the option to go from Chile, all tours vary on price and experience, so its best to do your research to see what suits you. We decided to go from Tupiza to Uyuni as Tupiza is the closest border town to the North of Argentina where we crossed.
The tour lasted four days and crossed some of the most hostile and beautiful landscapes I have ever seen including the famous Laguna Colorada.
After talking to people who do other forms of the tour it sounds like our option was the best, because of the extra day you get from Tupiza. But I'll let you be the judge, here are the full four days from Tupiza to Uyuni Bolivia.

I WISH I Had Known About This Place Before | Uyuni Salt Flats, Bolivia
Salar de Uyuni is the biggest salt flat in the world, as big as Jamaica, state of Connecticut and half of Slovenia. It is located in Bolivia on the Andean plane.
But during our 3-day tour to the area, we discovered a lot more than just salt.
I'm Liisu, a 27 year-old doctor from Estonia and in December 2021 I quit my job to travel the world with Joe, my partner.

DON'T do this mistake in Salar de Uyuni I Bolivia Vlog
What an adventure! We're walking for hours in Salar de Uyuni, Bolivia. We're a bit crazy, I know! But we didn't want to do an introductory tour of the world's biggest salt flats - Salar de Uyuni, so we decided to walk by ourselves. Because why NOT?
We're not like any other tourist/traveler/travel vlogger. We try to do things our way if it's possible. If you enjoy this video, let us know in the comments if you prefer to see us alone in the world or on big group tours.
But don't make the same mistake as us. It's tough to walk under the sun in Salar de Uyuni. So don't do this to yourself, hihi.

3 DAYS IN THE SALT FLATS, BOLIVIA - Salar de Uyuni Travel Vlog
During our travels in South America, there was one place we kept hearing about - The Salt Flats in Bolivia. Everybody that we met who had been here said it was one of their highlights, so when there's no way we were going to miss them.
Salar de Uyuni is the largest salt flats in the world and is incredibly beautiful. The best way to explore them is to sign up for a Uyuni Salt Flats tour, which includes your transport, guide, food and accommodation. We joined the company Red Planet Expeditions, and the cost was only USD$210 per person for the 3 days, which was a bargain considering what you get to see and do.
During our time in the Uyuni salt flats we visited the train cemetery, a salt-processing village, Cactus Island, the Eduardo Avaroa National Park and some volcanic geysers. We stayed in salt hotels, swam in hot springs and saw plenty of flamingos and llamas too.
This Salt Flats Bolivia tour was definitely worth the trip when travelling around the country. Salar de Uyuni blew our minds, and we can't wait to come back again at a different time of year when the salt flats are flooded, making what is known as the world's largest mirror.

I came in with expectations to see some salt, but there was absolutely so much more! Vicunas, foxes, rabbits, flamingoes, geothermal geysers, hot springs, green/white/pink/blue lagoons, mountains, trains, volcanoes, and so much more! All in 3 days/2nights!
If you're in South America, this one is an absolute must!

The Bolivian Salt Flats in Uyuni, Bolivia are one of the most beautiful and alien places I've ever been! They are the biggest in the world (10,000 square kilometers of salt!). We drove into the middle of the flats to take crazy perspective pictures, fly the drone, hike a 1000-year-old cactus island and then witness the most amazing mirrored sunset I've ever seen. And fly the drone some more.. If you've ever wondered what the salt flats of Bolivia are really like this is it, insane, amazing, freezing, high altitude, and mind-blowingly beautiful.
