Is Colombia safe? Is Medellín still dangerous? | The News & Netflix vs. The NEW Colombia (2020)

Is Colombia safe? Is Colombia dangerous? What about the News and Netflix’s “Narcos,” aren't you guys afraid to be going to Medellín?
That was what we got asked a lot before moving to Colombia, and after being there for over 3 months, we felt like this was a video we just HAD to make.
We spent the majority of our time living in Medellín and Cartagena. And so we wanted to address the question, “As tourists living in Colombia, did Medellín feel dangerous to us?” Well, this was our experience.

Hey! We're Olivia and Nathan ???????? A couple from California.

We met back in 2014 in Monterey, California. I (Olivia) was a senior in college & Nathan had recently moved back to the area after living in Italy.

After a few “deep life talks” (ones that were so foreign to me) and hearing about the lifestyle Nathan had been creating for himself for the last 6 years, I wanted to spend more time with him.

We started dating and I learned how he’d moved to Cambodia when he was 17, Germany when he was 18, Italy when he was 20, and was itching to travel again.

I was fascinated and wondered HOW THE HECK DID THIS GUY PAY FOR ALL OF THAT?

Nathan would work in California for 2 years, save every dollar he could, move abroad, find a job in that country, live there for 1-2 years and then do it all over again. Each time, he’d learn the language of that country, acquire new skills & make lifelong friends.

I was deeply inspired & wanted to travel with him. After 1 year of working our butts off and saving every dollar we could, we moved to Australia. We lived + worked there for 3 years (learned to speak perfect Australian lol) & created online jobs so we could continue traveling full-time.

CURRENTLY: When covid hit, we flew home and bought an RV to travel the US. That’s what we’re currently doing now, and boy is it a LEARNING CURVE but also thrilling!

Down to earth, entertaining, and informative is our goal — we want you to feel like you’re experiencing the day with us.

Welcome to ON World Travel ????????

Is Colombia safe? Is Medellín still dangerous? | The News & Netflix vs. The NEW Colombia (2021)????????????????????

1. Journey to Isla Gorgona
Once a prison island, Isla Gorgona is now part of a national park that lies 30 miles (48 kilometers) off the Pacific coast. You’re likely to see snakes, bats, monkeys, and sloths and the boat journey also offers many chances to see humpback whales, sharks, and giant sea turtles. The remains of the prison can be seen too. Admission to the park is 31,000 COP ($10 USD) per person.

2. Visit San Agustín
A UNESCO World Heritage Site, San Agustín is a small mountain town that’s home to hundreds of pre-Columbian statues and burial mounds. Its collection of religious monuments and megalithic sculptures is the largest in Latin America, for which you’ll need at least one full day (two to see it all in depth). Admission to the park is 20,000 COP ($6 USD) per person.

3. Journey into the Amazon
The Amazon basin covers almost one-third of Colombia and is the perfect place to experience the jungle. Leticia is a town bordering Peru and Brazil and is generally considered the hopping off point for the nearby jungle accommodations and indigenous villages on the Amazon River. The regions of Guaviare, Putumayo, and Caqueta are also popular for birding, waterfall hikes, and white water rafting trips. For trekking, most tours involve taking a boat up the river from Leticia and a stop off with an indigenous tribe before arriving at Amacayacu National Park to begin your trek. Prices will vary depending on the duration of your trip but expect to pay at least 150,000 COP ($47 USD).

4. Go diving
Colombia may not be the first place you think of when planning a dive trip, but there are some excellent dive sites in the country. The tropical waters around San Andrés and Providencia are home to a myriad of fish and coral species. Tayrona National Park is an ideal place to go if you’re interested in getting up close to some sunken ships, while Gorgona Island is another hotspot for marine life. Close encounters with humpback whales are common around Gorgona Island between August and October, and it’s also the only place in Colombia to see whale sharks! Expect to pay around 305,000 COP ($95 USD) for a two-tank dive.

5. Indulge in all the coffee
Colombia is home to some of the world’s best coffee, and a tour of a plantation is a great way to find out how your morning brew gets from coffee grain to coffee cup.

6. Take in the chaos of Cali
As Colombia’s third largest city, Cali is the center of the sugar and coffee industry for the country, as well as being host to a terrific nightlife. This hot, hot city is also the salsa capital of the world.

7. Day trip to Popayan
Popayán rivals Cartagena as Colombia’s most impressive colonial town. It’s known as La Ciudad Blanca (“The White City”) because all the buildings are painted white.

8. Dance and party through Carnival
It may not be Rio de Janeiro, but Colombia has a great Carnival season.

9. Do some extreme sports in San Gil
San Gil is considered the outdoors capital of the country. Extreme-sports fans love it here. You can go white-water rafting, paragliding, caving, rappelling, trekking, and more from this city! Prices will vary but expect to pay around 60,000 COP ($19 USD) for paragliding and around 125,000 COP ($40 USD) for white-water rafting.

10. Relax in Tayrona National Park
Located on Colombia’s Caribbean coast, Tayrona has long stretches of golden beaches lined with coconut palms and a dense rainforest with lots of easy day hikes.

11. Head to the Providencia and San Andrés Islands
These islands are actually closer to Nicaragua than Colombia. Try to make it when tens of thousands of black crabs migrate to the sea. This happens twice a year for about a 1-2-week period between April and July, so it’s not always easy to nail the timing.

12. Visit Guatapé
This pueblo is one of the most picturesque towns in Colombia and one of the most colorful in the world,

13. Hike in Chingaza National Park
This is one of the biggest nature reserves in Colombia, home to more than 1,000 plant species and 187 bird species.

14. Hike in Minca
Minca is located in the foothills of the Sierra de Santa Marta Mountains. it takes about three hours from the center of town, and it’s a steady climb into the mountains but, like all things like this, it’s worth it.

15. Visit Cartagena
Cartagena is one of the most visited destinations in Colombia I really enjoyed Cartagena. While there aren’t a lot of tourist activities (you can do most of them in a single day), what makes it a wonderful place to visit is just that: it’s somewhere you can slow down, relax, and gorge on the phenomenal gastronomy.

Accommodation – Most hostel dorm rooms in Colombia cost between 30,000-45,000 COP ($9-14 USD) per night.

Food – A meal at a restaurant serving local food will cost between 10,000-15,000 COP ($3-5 USD) in the major cities and about 5,000-10,000 ($1.50-3 USD) in the countryside.

Traveling to Medellin and Cartagena Colombia in 2020 | IS IT SAFE?

While I've spend now over a month the biggest question I have gotten is is it safe there in Colombia.
Having visited two major destinations of Colombia Cartagena and Medellin, I tell you about the on the ground feel of it all through airports, bus terminals and public places. Safety right now is a major concern at the moment when it come to traveling anywhere. So here is my point view on safety in Colombia in late 2020.

Tourist Murdered Near Parque Lleras Medellin Colombia for Cell Phone

Man Murdered Near Parque Lleras Medellin Colombia for Cell Phone. This video is ann alert that there was a Tourist killed in Medellin Colombia yesterday. While crime can happen anywhere, I know some of you are either there or headed that way and need to know that you should know that certain areas are more susceptible. If you want to know, Is Medellin safe? I would have to say for the most part, it is. I felt safer there than here in my hometown of Houston, TX. Medellin crime is there, but really, it's everywhere. Medellin colombia crime is the same as any other big city. I would just hope that visitors don't get too relaxed and let their guard down. Medellin nighlife is picking back up and this is an area to watch out for. Parque Lleras.

I just did a story aboutd Kendrick Sampson Arrested, and when this story came up, it led me to comment for the safety of my viewers. My last video was regarding How to act in another country.

Colombia’s Most Dangerous Barrio - Barrio Pablo Escobar (I ALMOST DIED!)

In this video I show you around one of Colombia’s most dangerous barrios, Barrio Pablo Escobar. The history of this barrio is very interesting. In the 80’s Pablo Escobar built hundreds of houses for the poorest neighborhood in Medellin to show that he was doing some good. To this day people from this barrio still worship Pablo and have a giant mural of him as you enter the barrio.

Medellin Colombia Travel Update - Colombia Curfews Restrictions Increase

Medellin Colombia Travel Update - Colombia Curfews Restrictions Increase. Colombia Restrictions & Curfews Increase - For Medellin & Cartagena Colombia. This is my latest video on Colombia restrictions with dates and times. This video is dated April 12, 2021. I read a story about the Bogota restrictions; another one about the Medellin restrictions and more lockdown information on the Bogota lockdown. It's common place now to find a Colombia curfew in effect. You can tell that the Colombia restrictions increase, as each day goes by. Curfew is the word of the month so far this year. I also read a story on the Cartagena restrictions. And general information on the Colombia Lockdown plans and current schedules. So, if you're looking for Colombia Travel 2021, you need to know these dates. The Medellin Curfew seems to increase in volume and continuance. The Medellin Lockdown is now for overnight hours for the next week or so. Colombia 2021, is starting off worse than it ended last year regarding the virus and quarantines. It looks like people continuing to go out and socialize without masks are having a toll on them. The Cartagena curfew is a good sign of that. As they're the last to seem to lock it down. It looks like for the foreseeable future, we'll be looking at Colombia Travel restrictions to increase weekly. This is due to the lack of ICU beds at most hospitals. This is my update on Colombia travel news, Colombia News and different parts of Colombia. Bogota Colombia seems to be bearing the brunt of the virus and lockdowns. Again, this is my Colombia News Update for January 21, 2021. Colombia travel is still possible, although know that your free time there will be limited. Colombia is doing it's best to stay afloat; so bear with them as they combat this virus as we must do. I love Medellin, but Medellin Colombia seems to be locking it down more and more each week. Bogota and Cartagena as well. Cartagena Colombia being the least affected,
