MONSTER NIGHT TORNADO AND INCREDIBLE LIGHTNING - TURKEY, TX - 05/23/16
When our chase team was just about to write off the chase day, this happened! Just before sunset, our storm of interest really ramped up and developed a well-defined mesocyclone, rotating over us as we drove under it. A new updraft and lowering quickly formed just to the west, along with a major uptick in CG lightning. Before we knew it, funnel clouds began to show themselves and we had to blast south to escape an onslaught of large hail. While driving, we saw several bolts from the blue from another storm to the SSE. Once we were rain-free, we found a good pull-off with an excellent view back towards our original storm, and there it was, a massive wedge tornado with an astonishing parent supercell storm being lit up by the intense lightning!

Incredible Tornado Intercepts
Chapter Breakdown Below - Video covers the amazing 2016 Tornado season. Over just a 5 day period, from May 21st though May 25th, we literally saw day after day of tornadoes, of all shapes and sizes, and beautifully sculpted supercell thunderstorms. Somewhere around 15 to 18 tornadoes in total was our rough estimate. While my other videos from this years chase trip focused on the individual events, this video is more of a meat and potatoes edit. Had a flat tire on the way. That’s ok.
Got to see a couple tornados and a 4 hour lightning show!
Supercell Thunderstorm Intercept- March 15, 2016
This video contains multiple video clips from my storm watch just outside Pontiac,IL on March 15, 2016.
A cluster of supercell thunderstorms developed during the evening hours in Western Illinois under a quite favorable environment. The atmosphere de-stabilized to as much as 2500 joules during the daytime, combining with a strong low pressure system, sufficient wind shear, and a triple point convergence to produce severe weather across Central Illinois on March 15th.
These supercells produced tornadoes and significant damage near and outside of Macomb,IL before moving eastward and progressing more into a line of storms as they crossed the Peoria metro area. Still, Tornado Warnings were put into effect near Peoria as the storm still maintained some supercell characteristics despite becoming more linear. Large hail up to two inches in diameter was also reported.
The storms did lose some strength as they approached my location in Pontiac by around 9:30 PM, though still packing lots of static electricity, gusty winds, and heavy rain mixing with some hail. In this video, you can definitely hear some decent sized hailstones hitting my car. Definitely a nice storm for being the first one of the season!

Amazing Lightning Display From Incredible Supercell Thunderstorm
On June 4th 2015 we chased storms in central Kansas, after watching one amazing supercell form and then die a little too quickly another sculpted supercell thunderstorm developed a little before dark. We followed this storm into the night and were treated to a phenomenal lightning display. This storm chasing trip was with Tempest Tours Storm Chasing Expeditions. Filmed on a Gopro Hero 4 Silver and Nikon d750 for the stills.

Crazy Supercells and Epic Sunset Lightning (May 24, 2019)
The 24th of May had everything in stock. It began with some rather normal storms in the morning before throwing two embedded supercells at us, that formed along a massive cold front passing through. With the decision to blast through the core we struck gold as the sunset lit up the anvil behind the storm where intense crawler lightning went crazy with the light.
A day to remember. Also did you spot the potential tornado? I guess we might never know if it was or wasn't..

Ťhis is a pretty intense lightning show I woke up to after an already long day of bad storms that brought over 12 inches of rain, and tornadoes, to many counties here around us, like Washington, Austin, Montgomery, Harris, and quite a few more yesterday.
