On our 2nd day in Rome, the 1st official itinerary day on our tour, we visited the Vatican Museum in Vatican City!
The crowds in this area are absolutely incredible, the Vatican museum is visited by over 6 million people every year! It is highly advised that tickets to the museum are purchased in advance otherwise you will be waiting in a very long line! If you google Vatican Museum tickets, many websites will come up before the official Vatican site.- so just be aware you may be purchase tickets for some sort of guided tour, you can tour the Vatican on your own without a guide. Tickets can be purchased here from the official Vatican website:

After the Vatican Museum we will skip the security line and take the fast track into St Peter's Basilica.

The Papal Basilica of Saint Peter in the Vatican, or simply Saint Peter's Basilica, is a church built in the Renaissance style located in Vatican City, the papal enclave that is within the city of Rome, Italy.

The Vatican Museums are the public museums of the Vatican City. They display works from the immense collection amassed by the Catholic Church and the papacy throughout the centuries, including several of the most renowned Roman sculptures and most important masterpieces of Renaissance art in the world.
Sistine Chapel -
The Sistine Chapel is a chapel in the Apostolic Palace, in Vatican City and the official residence of the pope. Originally known as the Cappella Magna ('Great Chapel'), the chapel takes its name from Pope Sixtus IV, who had it built between 1473 and 1481. Since that time, the chapel has served as a place of both religious and functionary papal activity. Today, it is the site of the papal conclave, the process by which a new pope is selected. The fame of the Sistine Chapel lies mainly in the frescoes that decorate the interior, most particularly the Sistine Chapel ceiling and The Last Judgment, both by Michelangelo.

Vatican Museum in Rome (Der Vatikan)
The Vatican Museums (Italian: Musei Vaticani) are the museums of the Vatican City and are located within the city's boundaries. They display works from the immense collection built up by the Popes throughout the centuries including some of the most renowned classical sculptures and most important masterpieces of Renaissance art in the world.
Pope Julius II founded the museums in the early 16th century. The Sistine Chapel with its ceiling decorated by Michelangelo and the Stanze della Segnatura decorated by Raphael are on the visitor route through the Vatican Museums. In 2013, they were visited by 5.5 million people, which combined makes it the 5th most visited art museum in the world.

VATICAN MUSEUMS.
The Vatican Museums (Italian: Musei Vaticani; Latin: Musea Vaticana) are the public art and sculpture museums in the Vatican City. They display works from the immense collection amassed by the Catholic Church and the papacy throughout the centuries including several of the most renowned Roman sculptures and most important masterpieces of Renaissance art in the world. The museums contain roughly 70,000 works, of which 20,000 are on display, and currently employ 640 people who work in 40 different administrative, scholarly, and restoration departments. Pope Julius II founded the museums in the early 16th century. The Sistine Chapel with its ceiling decorated by Michelangelo and the Stanze di Raffaello decorated by Raphael are on the visitor route through the Vatican Museums. In 2020 they were visited by 1,300,000 persons, a drop of 81 percent from the number of visitors in 2019, but enough to rank them fourth among the most-visited art museums in the world.
There are 54 galleries, or sale, in total, with the Sistine Chapel, notably, being the last sala within the Museum.

The Vatican Museums contain some of the greatest artwork in the world. There are 13 museums with 54 galleries and it would literally take days if not weeks to really see everything. However, in this video, I do cover some of the highlights: Gallery of the Candelabra, Gallery of Tapestries, Gallery of Maps, Room of the Immaculate Conception, the Raphael Rooms, Pope Urban XIII Chapel, and the Borgia Apartments. I point out the symbolism and history of much of the artwork we see here. At the end of the video is a link to another video I made there of another famous Vatican Museums room-The Sistine Chapel!
